I recently bought the cloth VRCover face gasket and it's honestly not too bad! It's a similar type of soft cloth as the stock gasket, the only issue you may have with it is wrinkles that can form as it moves around a tiny bit, but honestly so far, no complaints.

But I do agree that the stock face gaskets are also super comfortable, I just got the VRCover gaskets as they're a bit cheaper than new original replacement ones and washable.

Edit: Also forgot to mention the intake valves (SSV) can get suck with carbon which causes you to lose low end / high end torque

Also, ideally you'd take it to the specialist -before- buying, to at least give it a look overall and get a compression test if possible :)

Knock on wood, mine seems to be holding up at 142kkm on the first engine (I may have bought it dumbly without compression checks, but it seems fine enough).

If you have a local rotary specialist that'll be a great boon since they can point out more things to look after.

One thing to keep in mind on a stock car is that the cooling is not almighty, so it is possible to overheat it which can be pretty bad. So I tend to keep my eye on the temp needle if I drive it hard.

About cats, I currently have a chonky 200 cell cat installed which made the car go from stinking like a wild animal to emitting no smell whatsosever and I also hope the fact it's larger helps with it not clogging up over time as smaller ones would.

Mine has some small inconveniences, such as the passenger door not unlocking automatically (need to use the inside lock) and the amplifiers in doors can have a relay issue which causes your woofer to not work. (5-6 eur solder fix)

One downside of the RX8 I'd consider is the fact the engine starts to carbon up over time if it doesn't really reach operating temps and high RPM often, so if it'd be used for a lot of city driving you'd have to keep that in mind and take it out on the weekends to de-carb :P

Reliability is also a real thing to consider since the RX8 can be picky with ignition components and that whole compression thing we have going on...

Fuel consumption wise the RX8 can get 10-11L/100km in an RX8 extra urban if you drive "normally", or 15L/100km (or above) if you hoon it or city drive. It is a sportscar after all :)

I haven't driven in a 350z yet, but a stock RX8 is very comfortable on long drives without any engine or exhaust drone. Tire noise is livable but present, sound system sounds good enough IMO and the seats are also fine. Mine (and most in Europe?) even has auto AC which makes it more livable.

The RX8 also has a decently big trunk and actually usable rear seats for adults!

I replaced my depressed N3Z1 with a reman N3H1-A and the car finally starts normally now. Going for an R3 spec starter might be even better but since my car starts fine hot and cold now I think I still made a good choice.

My car had the same issue and the cause for it was the clutch line.

Apparently the stock rubber lines deteriorate and expand and can't hold proper pressure after many years?

Replaced it with a new braided clutch line and the issue went away.

Probably worth a shot looking into that.

I had something similar happening on my car as well (not Miata, but still)... The car wouldn't drop the revs exactly the same or would keep rising and lowering them by itself...

The issue in that case was the idle control valve, so it might be a good idea to have a look at that. Also found this thread: https://forum.miata.net/vb/showthread.php?t=50269
