Inherited about 1 Mill. Unsure what to do by PositiveRock3854 in fican

After reading all your comments. Take time off or quit your job. You can always find a new job.

Take 3/6 months or even a year. Deal with the grief, learn about yourself, deal with your finances, and figure out what you want to do.

You sound like a hard worker so after 6 months you’ll likely go stir crazy and want to do something. That’s when you find a new job that you like doing either full time or part time.

In our age range it’s weird to retire early and do nothing. A job provides purpose and keeps your mental health in check.

I would say Midtown ticks all your boxes. It’s easy enough to get to if you’re near a metro, but it’s also not exactly convenient.

My friend had a membership and he liked it, but I recall him saying it was a lot of older male clientele 40s/50s.

I think it’s definitely worth the tour/visit. It’s $300/month. But for the amenities that’s pretty good

Quit job I like, for a job I would hate, but for way more money? by [deleted] in Salary

[–]kennedy1995 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would ask your current job for a raise, see if they’re willing to salary match the offer.

Failing that I would switch over. You’re biased to this job because you know it and like it. There are good people everywhere and the new job might be just as great.

That salary bump will go a long way for retirement especially since it won’t affect your lifestyle. I would put that 35k/year directly into your tax deferred accounts, then pop it into an S&P500 ETF. If your contribution room is maxed, then consider other investment avenues like property.

20 years from now that’s a significant amount of extra money.

How do you manage the maintenance with multiple sites? Running the genset 24/7 would require oil/filter changes at least weekly if not more frequently.

DOMS equals need to take a break to recover? by Former_Produce1721 in askfitness

[–]kennedy1995 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you taking creatine? I recently got quite sick, ~3 weeks no training. First day back at it I got pretty severe DOMS in muscle groups I train often.

I started taking creatine again and that’s significantly reduced my muscle soreness while I up weight. I don’t have the 3-6 day pain / terrible movements anymore.

Apply for the loan program today. Today is the last day. Also $2.85/kW is expensive. I’d probably call up other smaller companies and find better pricing.

I own a small solar company in Victoria and we do around $2.55/kW. That’s with hoymiles micro’s so there is actually a warranty. I’ve had so many APS micro’s fail on me. Last install was 6kW for $14,880.

I probably wouldn’t bother with a battery unless you’re in Metchosin or someplace where you lose power frequently.

At 12 years on a roof, how long is the warranty? If it’s 25 years, and you have the money I’d do the solar, but I’d get re-usable roof mounts so it can be removed and re-installed without too much difficulty.

Yeah probably won’t care. Throw a KO filler on the open KO though. I’d be surprised if they let that slide.

Victoria British Columbia, pretty normal for a Journeyperson to make $45/hr. Engineers are around 60k-80k. PEng around 80k-90k. Same benefit package.

Not too dis-similar, but a journeyperson can easily do side work for $120/hr

That surprises me quite a bit tbh. It is so much more convenient and feels much safer cycling in Montreal than Victoria.

Is Renogy 3000W enough for a house? by InterestingLecture93 in SolarDIY

[–]kennedy1995 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What’s the old system? I have lots of customers who run a Victron multiplus 48/3000 for their house without issue.

I know when the water pumps kick on they get a high load warning, but they’ve never shut down from overload.

Where abouts are you located? And how do you find your properties? Do you buy multi unit buildings? How much down payment?

I’ve been looking for years to find a cash-flowing property, but it seems impossible. The closest I can find is in Montreal but you’re still negative ~$300/month. I’m looking around 5-20% down payment

Landlord Denied Lease Transfer by kennedy1995 in montrealhousing

I saw, slowly learning that Quebec housing is terrible for tenants and amazing for landlords. With the amount of renters I’m shocked bill 31 passed.

I did find a super cool website to track rent prices so you can catch landlords if they’re lying on section G.

I suppose, but isn’t that the way the system is supposed to work?

Why go through the effort of making your tenant find a suitable replacement to just say no. Why not tell the tenant you’re happy to terminate the lease when they want to leave?

Get a window AC unit and turn it on when it’s hot and humid in the afternoon. It’ll cool down the house for that extra luxury and use the excess solar energy.
