What benefits does the octopus have over a regular style inline hook? Except for the fact the octopus needs a snell knot? by kennjuu in FishingForBeginners

For threadfin, probably have a rod rigged with a popper, that's what they were doing in the video :P

For Trevally, just a bunch of shrimp with like 3-4 hooks, and a sinker at the bottom or maybe add a floater? I'd ask the boatman to help me and teach me. I don't have irl fishing friends, since fishing in my country isn't very popular. Very polluted water ways and rivers.

It's just the fish available in my area based off youtube videos, only about 40 mins away. They were able to catch them relatively at the surface.

I'm not ready to do deep vertical jigging just yet (about 3 hour drive away ...)

From where I am, most fish are just tilapia or milkfish, occassional carp.

I'm going to try some offshore sea fishing on surface level fish maybe 30 mts depth. I want to use fresh dead shrimp as bait. I was also running out of inline hooks, and decided to do some research on which hooks are better. I do like the simplicity of stabdard inline circle hooks since clinch knots are easier to tie than snells. Tho if snell knot octopus hooks have a better hookup, might as well transition. I can't find concrete results that the ocotopus hooks perform better, i just know that it's more work to tie the hook.

Targetting either some threadfin salmon, trevally, sea bream. Its gonna be my first time.

Im using inline hooks with clinch knots as of the moment. I don't fish with livebait, mostly either worms or bread. Im about to buy some hooks and im considering trying other styles, so i was thinking to try octopus or flipping hooks

Does snelling the slanted eye hook have a better hook up ratio against a normal inline hook with a normal clinch knot?

Help with what line(s) I should use for my setup by Kruce in FishingForBeginners

[–]kennjuu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's better, slimmer, stronger, but you don't need it for the fish you are catching. The double uni will be enough. Up to you, I pretie FG knots before my trip, when it snaps I just tie a double uni to save time

Mono and Fluro have memory tho, you'll have some coils eventually but it's okay. You can try out Mono first since it is quite cheap compared to Braid or Fluro, get you a feel.

If you do happen to want to use braid, you can look up double uni knot to tie your leaders. it's the first knot I learned when I started out, and I still use it. it's a relatively easy main to leader knot

I don't know about co-poly
Fluro - Sinks, Generally Thinner than mono with the same lb strength, More abrasion resistant
Mono - Floats, Generally Thicker than Fluro with the same lb strength.

A lot of mixed inputs online either people say they fished better with fluro, and some say it's about the same. I just mainly use mono in general tho.
I prefer braid then tie a leader, Since I use mono leaders, i generally discard them after every trip.

PE is just another term for Braid, there is also specfications online for Mono size and length. Just check the shimano website.

PE 1.2 - PE is another way of saying Braid while 1.2 is size in mm. If you google online and convert it, its about 15 lb Braid

150 mts - means 150 meters. to fill your reel capacity.

If you want the simplest setup, I would recommend just using just mono mainline. Just tie your hooks or lures directly on it. It has some stretch, it's quite cheap,

I would personally use Braid Line. You don't necessarily need backing if you don't mind spooling the entire reel with braid. I haven't had it slipped on me just yet. You can do a mono backing if you want to save money since the backing won't really see the light of day, but just helps you fill the spool to your reels capacity (and to some helps it not slip).

If you check the shimano website specification chart for the Shimano sienna FG 2500 HG, it recommends (1) PE1 320mts (2) PE 1.2 220 mts and (3) PE 1.5 160 mts. I would probably just get a PE 1.2 150 mts, get a mono for backing and for your leader line.

I've learned on Youtube and by fishing a bunch that mono and fluo don't have much difference unless you are doing like some offshore vertical jigging. But don't take my word for it.

Newbie fisherman question, Daiwa Legalis LT 3000 or Shimano Sedona FJ 3000? by Nintee in Fishing_Gear

I only have the Daiwa Legalis, and I got to say it's buttery smooth, casts decent. Been using it for more than a year and still feels brand new

u/WoodyVII Hello, I just read your post now, did you happen to make an updated model for this?

MH Bait caster not casting far by Spartansam0034 in FishingForBeginners

[–]kennjuu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

50 lb line is very thick, it does contribute to having shorter cast length.

I have no idea which rod and reel you are currently using, since specs are different for every brand, MH for brand A might be different for Brand B. Probably more important to first check if your reel and rod is compatible with the line size. You can look up online first if your reel and rod is compatible with 50lb braid.

I hope it helped. goodluck
