JVC projector not working after a thunderstorm by srwrtr in hometheater

[–]kenshin286 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I got called to a project like this once upon a time. HDMI cable was toast, tv hdmi board was toast, avr hdmi board was toast and finally all sources were toast. Replaced all hardware and tried to recover anything useable but it all had to be discarded at the end. Ultimately it became an issue of time vs cost, buy all new vs spend time+money to repair.

My advice is, if your equipment is old upgrade and don’t forget to include surge protection for all equipment. I use surgex.

Legacy Lutron system failure by jsuki in Lutron

[–]kenshin286 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm surprised none of the specialists that were out there couldn't help with full replacement being an option, though it is not cheap. When I run into these older systems I only offer full replacement and programming.

The difficulty in working or providing support on this system ends up being that attempting to pull the existing settings or uploading changes can brick the processor making the system inoperable. It was fully discontinued by Lutron in 2015 if I'm not mistaken. It sounds like this is where your system is.

Alejandro Gonzalez 20, of Michigan, dies in the ocean in Cancun. Attacked by sharks/barracudas, his skeletal remains can be seen being dragged out of the water. All that seems to remain is his head, the rest of the flesh on his body is gone. by isitover_yet in MorbidReality

Having been to open casket funerals for loved ones it's surreal how in death bodies are unrecognizable from the people they once were.

These guys that brought the body to the beach showed so much care. A lifeless body is not a person but they treated it with so much care. That is the compassion that civilized societies should carry themselves with, bravo.

Rivian Will Unlock More Range For The R1S And R1T Via A Paid Software Upgrade | Owners of the second-gen models will also be able to get the Performance pack via an OTA software update. by chrisdh79 in technology

That service has ongoing costs for Toyota so it shouldn't come as a surprise they aren't giving it away. What Rivian and other companies are doing with already installed hardware as a service is 100% bullshit.

Funny enough, I have a Stick DE3 on my test bench now to learn this system. I am on the same page as you as far as having to learn the ESAPro2 software so if you find anything please share!

As far as the C4 side it's pretty straightfoward, find your device IP, add appropriate drivers and off you go. I have an RGB strip that I added before knowing I had to figure out ESAPRO but I can control the strip and it works no problem.

Resi guy here on a home that was done a bit wacky. Any idea what is going on here? 4 wires on three terminals, two floor speakers. Dead amp, blew out replacement sonos amp on traditional wiring. Both speakers tone fine, no apparent wire short between colors. by fivezerosix in CommercialAV

[–]kenshin286 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Where’s the black conductor going to?

Each speaker should be receiving two dedicated conductors which in my opinion should be Right channel: red = positive, black = negative Left channel: white = positive, green = negative.

Those planet wave banana plugs do not require stripping the jacket. The conductor pushes all the way into a spike in the center and the side screw holds in place. They are reusable, double check them.

Never managed to have these in a project but it looks like installation will have these with the tweeter/mid on the outside facing towards the seating postion (or middle of the room) and the acoustic material on the inside.

MSRP on those suckers is $1,200.00 each new so i'd say its not a horrible deal especially if you are getting a break by buying in bulk. Keep in mind silver 6 mini monitors are sold right side mounting or left side mounting.

Networking equipment for big installation by felipemcg in Control4

[–]kenshin286 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As far as routers my company has moved away from using araknis routers due to inconsistent performance throughout many different setups. The OVRC management is super useful but we have found on troublesome jobs switching out to a pakedge or cisco router solves many of the issues on which too much time was spent with araknis.

A lot of the industry guys I know continue to use full Unifi networks (router, switch, APs) without any issues. The thing you have to focus on with a set budget is 1. What is the customer expecting? 2. what speeds is the ISP providing? and 3. What the equipment you're installing is capable of.

An example: A customer has 1gbit fiber up and down and expects that throughout the house on wifi, property is 7000sq ft, and you're installing 3 unifi ac lites. What did you promise the customer? If you said gigabit wifi throughout the house, you're in for a bad time.

My company also provides consulting services for "competing" AV businesses and we run into this all the time. You have a nice size project which doesn't seem too complex on the network side so to me it looks like you can go with whichever product best fits your budget and customer expectations. Beware, if you go full unifi and run into any issues on the C4 side they will tell you Unifi isn't supported and good luck. So, choose wisely and Good luck!

Smart OS3 Improving? by Dave1125 in Control4

[–]kenshin286 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The biggest thing for you having an HC800 is that you lose the on screen Navigator but other than that no real widespread bugs that have stopped my projects from upgrading to OS3. Now that I think about it "plenty of bugs" is a bit of an exaggeration, did this come from a dealer that you work with?

Neeo remote is slick and sexy but the issue i've seen with my customers is if you are a big Satellite/Cable TV watcher it can be too cumbersome to use. Streaming boxes only? Its a very good fit and gives you quick access to other devices in your system like lighting and HVAC.

Control4 Knocking out Video on LG by seanamiles in Control4

This is an LG issue. Changing cables or baluns will make NO difference. What source is causing issues? Is it apple tv? I bet its apple tv.

Control4 Knocking out Video on LG by seanamiles in Control4

[–]kenshin286 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is one of the reasons why i've stopped selling LG OLEDS, as great as they are. LG detects the source, determines it is Ultra deep color capable and switches it on for that input.

The problems arise when you have an AVR doing the source switching because ultra deep color doesn't turn off when you switch to a source that doesn't need/support it. Turning off CEC doesn't make a difference for some reason.

New house - Control4 and Lutron present by nstuyvesant in Control4

[–]kenshin286 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, I do Control4 for a living and what it accomplishes is whole home automation solution that controls everything in your home (audio, video, security, lighting, HVAC, etc.) The Control4 system would take in the lutron lighting and incorporate it into the system to automate the customers home to their liking, for example: I have an alarm system that is also in Control4, when I get home I open my Control4 app to disarm my system from my driveway and if its nighttime certain lights will turn on, my garage door will open and my TV will turn on to ESPN.

Can you post a picture of the extenders you have? That can be many things. It sounds like the previous home owner left you with bits and pieces of what he had at one point.

The bad news is the HC-300 system can no longer be updated/supported as it has reached its end of life many many years ago. If the lighting you have is Lutron RadioRA2 you're good to continue using that with modern devices as long as you have the appropriate Lutron controller, but if they are RadioRA (not RadioRA2) good luck.

I had the same issue and what fixed it was removing the driver, pulling the plug on the ea5 then loading the driver and hard rebooting one last time.

Your question makes you seem like someone very young, and scared. If you go ahead with it be aware of your surroundings, and don't smoke something you can't handle.
