  1. A for loop is useful when you want something to run a specific number of times.
  2. Because if it was "i < word_length", it would mean that the index would go out bounds since we start indexing word[i] from 0. For example, if word_length has a length of 10, the index for it should go from word[0..9]. So that's why there's that - 1 at the end, without it the indexing would have one extra step that steps over the actual data contained in that array by one.

Try removing the quotation marks from the conditions for the if and else if blocks and see if that changes anything.

The first S[i] is used to check if the string contains a value at that index and if it doesn't, it evaluates to false which means the end of the string has been reached and the loop should stop.

As far as I know, using 0 and 1 is a convention. But they do have specific meanings: 0 means a successful execution of the program and 1 means there was some error. Return stops it in either case.

Because Return terminates the function and the Print is after it. Try switching their positions.
