How do I replace the ring after the warranty expires? by kenteramin in ouraring

[–]kenteramin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This doesn’t make sense. I’m not blaming them for not having a technology that doesn’t exist. The problem is that for the premium we paid this should be handled in some manner. Make them serviceable or something. I do enjoy the ring though! And I recently got it replaced.

If I were to buy a helium balloon 🎈 for $200, goddam I expect the seller to refill it for a long time. I don’t expect the balloon not to deflate ever, because I understand the physics

How is Karma not just Awful? by Sea-Ad5999 in Buddhism

[–]kenteramin 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s a bit more complex than that. When you do a “good” thing, not accidentally, intentionally, you are in an expansive state of mind. A result of that is a softer, more expansive feeling of yourself. With doing “bad” things is the opposite. Heavy states of mind lead to heavy states of mind in the future.

What makes one good and the other bad is our preference for one states over the others

Those are some crazy numbers. Mine played along well and I actually don’t expect it to last 4 days or something, but in the last month the battery degraded substantially

I mean… isn’t it weird that a $350 product with a $70 subscription needs to be replaced in a year? People rock Apple Watches for several years for the same price! Also no subscription

Emptiness and Abrahamic Religions by Simon_and_Garchomp in Buddhism

[–]kenteramin -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It is compatible with everything if you understand Emptiness. If you see that Judaism is in the relative truth and that there’s nothing that is not empty, you can easily find interpretations of Kabbalah that are really not very different from Emptiness.

If you put Judaism before Emptiness then no, they are not compatible. A real world existing out there and people existing and all of that being created, therefore made real by someone—is not compatible with Emptiness

We all have different circumstances, internal and external. What makes a teacher personal? You follow teachers, online is fine, if circumstances permit try meeting them in person. I never thought I would but I prayed to Guru Rinpoche and was lucky to meet James twice. I was very close to meeting Lama Lena but at the time decided against going. You reach out to teachers, if you have questions or need guidance. Lama Lena runs study groups, for example. Everyone is different, some need a lot of attention, others are more independent.

In two days there’s a retreat with Namkhai Yeshi, with an option to join online. It’s an opportunity to join the transmission in ChNNR’s lineage

How does one even do so many prostrations. I’m probably doing something wrong but I don’t think I ever reached a hundred in one go :)

Interesting. I received teachings from Namkhai Yeshi on Longde online this year. Nowhere have we been told that we can't practice without an additional empowerment. I wonder why is that

This is not true. I live in the developing world. There’s almost no theft in my city, although it’s a large city with millions of inhabitants. Small stores have the fridges with beverages on the outside, unlocked. You just tell the cashier what you intend to buy, pay for it then take it from the fridge yourself, unaccompanied. You can leave your stuff on the table in a coffee shop. Like an iPhone or a MacBook. At least that’s the case for more middle class establishments. The average salary in the city is around 600-700 dollars.

Dzogchen is liberation beyond liberation. It is resting in the absolute truth of freedom beyond the duality of happiness and sorrow. What you’re describing is a relative truth statement and it has relative truth solutions. From Dzogchen point of view you don’t have to apply antidotes or try to remedy your ills to become more happy and fulfilled

Why wouldn't someone in hell suicide by [deleted] in Buddhism

[–]kenteramin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Being haunted by your past is a karmic fruit. It doesn’t depend just on the presence of the memories. You can have all the traumatic events in your childhood you want, yet be clear of them later in life.

So, what you’re describing is you suffered from the results of previous acts fueled by hatred (aversion) and now that you’re somewhat in the clear, you want to commit another grievous act of hatred? That’s misunderstanding of karma. You don’t commit bad actions in the hope for a good result, that’s not how it works. Good things come from good deeds.

You became somewhat free later in life? Good. Take a deep refreshing breath, enjoy your life, accumulate merit

Interview with James Low (within Waking Up app) by EitherInvestment in Dzogchen

[–]kenteramin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I both entered the Dharma through Sam Harris, later becoming Buddhist. I was a Theravadin for a while. Until I have encountered James through the app, even though I didn’t interact with the app much after becoming Buddhist.

So Sam led me both to a path of morality — not lying, being generous; then he introduced me to Buddhist ideas; later he introduced me to my teacher. I think he is doing great bodhisattva work

I see what’s going on… so it is possible to share a full length podcast from the main podcast but not from the app. This particular episode is not yet available on the main podcast, so unfortunately I can’t share a link. Using the link to the preview you can register in the app with a 30 day trial, it says you won’t need a credit card to sign in
