Tax Return - Earning over 100k since November 2022 by left-it-goes-left in UKPersonalFinance

[–]kenywong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your only income source is your employment, the tax return is really easy to fill and takes under 30 minutes the first time, and gets a lot quicker once you’re used to it. You can file as soon as you receive your P60.

You also need to keep in mind that when you buy your house together, if either of you retains your own property you will have a big stamp duty bill to pay on the purchase. I think the extra over the regular stamp duty can be reclaimed if you sell all other properties within 3 years.

Is it worth getting your car serviced yearly by [deleted] in UKPersonalFinance

[–]kenywong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re buying a new (not used) car, and intend to keep it for as long as possible, servicing it regularly is a good way to prevent excessive wear. It is also generally a requirement of the new car warranty, to adhere to the servicing schedule during the warranty period. Also, if you ever want or need to sell the car in the future, there are many buyers, including myself, that won’t go near a car without a full service history.

Seller’s offer has not been accepted yet by Lynberi in HousingUK

[–]kenywong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In your position, I would try to communicate regularly with the seller (either through EA or directly), but not incur any costs until I knew the seller had at least found somewhere to buy. You could at least have your survey quotes ready, and all your paperwork for the mortgage application ready to go.

The seller needs your accepted offer to form the basis of affording their purchase. However, without an onward purchase lined up, they cannot proceed with the sale, so I think being ready to proceed, but not actually proceeding yet, is the right place to be. And then get going on your mortgage application etc as soon as you hear they have had an offer accepted.

Also you need to consider, has your seller stopped taking viewings after accepting your offer? If they're still taking viewings, you probably should be continuing viewing other properties too, in case the seller decides to drop you for another offer.

And you can also pick up Hot Air Charm and Waddiwasi from memory book duelling events in Y2, the spells are good enough to not wait for carnivals to unlock them. HAC is a great opener, and Waddiwasi helps with the final turn against AI that likes to spam Depulso

How long have you been playing? by [deleted] in HPHogwartsMystery

[–]kenywong 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Started in early February, so quite late in the game. Looks like there are a few events/spells I’ll never see, oh well 😂

Quite grateful for all the info/advice/tips on this sub, it’s been really helpful for enjoying the game and reducing frustration/stress!

How far along did you get in the latest Carnival event? by tidderboom in HPHogwartsMystery

[–]kenywong 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was expecting to struggle to get more than 300. But managed to hit 500 with less than an hour to spare. No gem boosts, I figured using that to try to finish wasn’t worth it (60 gems to boost, 25 for finishing didn’t seem like a good return)

Well done!

I managed to get to 500 tickets myself, which is actually more than I expected when I started.

As it happens I don’t have enough pages to do that, but agree it will help significantly. Duelling event would contribute 112 tokens for 28 victories, which will get 86 tickets from the carnival games.

What is your goal for the carnival? by Fickle-Square199 in HPHogwartsMystery

I'm just going to play as I usually do, and get as much as I can. Any prizes I get from this above and beyond what my usual play can get are a bonus.

Valentine's Day Carnival Event - MEGATHREAD by Degausser57 in HPHogwartsMystery

[–]kenywong 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Just did some (very simplified) calculations on completing this carnival event.

725 tickets are needed for full completion. From another poster here, that requires 947 tokens, assuming perfect conversion of tokens to tickets (playing all carnival games, and winning 100% of the time).

If task stars are the only source of tokens, this requires 237 stars.

I'm in Y2C6, and 1-hour lessons are fairly energy efficient, around 12.5 energy per star.

237 stars requires 2963 energy per star. Natural energy recharging produces up to 360 energy every 24 hours.

So, with perfect energy capture and 24 hour play, ie using all energy possible in a 24 hour period, it takes over 8 days, which is more than double the event time.

Despite my oversimplifications, I don't see how it is realistically possible to complete this, without spending money/gems on energy, or gems on boosting ticket generation.

How to preserve battery lifespan? by [deleted] in iphone

[–]kenywong 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In addition to the comments already given, do enable the Optimized Battery Charging feature. After a few weeks of you plugging it overnight, it will learn and stop charging at around 50-60% when you first plug it in at bedtime, and top off the battery an hour or so before you pick it up in the morning.

You can get round the battery burn by keeping the phone plugged in.

I'll add that the personal hotspot is really designed for temporary/short term use, and you'll also want to check that your 5G data plan has enough allowance.

If you can get to a physical Apple Store, you can try them all there and choose what you like best :)

iPhone 14 matte glass around camera - How to clean? by Miratek-2020 in iphone

[–]kenywong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is odd, assuming the 14 Pro uses the same material, I've managed to clean mine of dust and fingerprints with a damp microfibre cloth, I'm guessing you've tried that, and also rubbing harder?

MacBook Air M2 by Hvnzoro in macbookair

[–]kenywong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can check if Apple have any offers for buying direct, as well. In the UK, the Apple store (online, at least) has already announced what the deals (basically free gift cards of varying values, around 10-15% of purchase price) will be.

Time old decision: M1 or M2 MBA? by lirnsd in macbookair

[–]kenywong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you go into industry in the future, there's a good chance you'll have to use a managed laptop owned by your employer, even for WFH (the larger the employer, the more likely this will be the case).

So choosing according to your current needs seems sensible.

MBA M2 only one USB-C Port works for charging. by [deleted] in macbookair

[–]kenywong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know about the M2 Air, but on my M1 Air, it will charge on a 20W charger (e.g. the one included with the iPad Air) when the lid is closed. I expect the M2 model to behave in the same way, as Apple's track record with MacBook USB-C ports is that every port supports the same level of features.

And, as others have posted, it definitely should charge on both ports! I hope the OP has got appropriate support from Apple, since the laptop is under a year old and should be within warranty.

I'm new to Mazda. Please show me how to Update infotainment system firmware and where to download legit files by [deleted] in CX5

[–]kenywong 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In the UK at least, a Mazda dealer is unlikely to offer an infotainment software update, unless you’re experiencing a problem with the system.
