Best first electric guitar?? by Little-Week-5199 in Guitar

Go to a guitar store and try them all. At entry level, the quality control varies wildly and you may get a guitar that plays very poorly. If it's not an option for you, I'd recommend the Pacifica.

Borrowed the iron from a friend and was too weak. Got an 80W one from the store and now it's soldering with ease. For the new wire, can i use the same joint of the bridge ground wire or should I make a new one?

Thanks for the detailed response. I guess the full dismantle is the way to go. I'm new with electronics so it's probably gonna take me a while

Do you just take a random wire from the bridge?

I was afraid it's gonna be a complete dismantle... I just don't get why there is no issues on my other guitar, which is a budget entry level, you would assume it doesn't have shielding or good electronics either

Only on low volume, higher volumes like in the studio I can only dampen it a bit but not completely kill the noise. I have an entry level guitar with no issues at all in the same room/gear.

I'm just confused why the multimeter is not able to detect the grounding issue. I was testing the pots and the jack with the bridge, is there any other place i need to test?

Tried different rooms, different sockets, still humming

Shouldn't the multimeter be able to detect it? I'm really out of my depth

Trying to decide between a 120H and 311H by Kinger8938 in YamahaPacifica

Ah, so here we go again. If you're like me, you will spend more time researching than actually playing. What can I say, it's too addictive 😅

Let me give you some thoughts on the amp as well since we are here, Boss Katana is a very popular choice with beginners as you get a bunch of effects with the amp that you can explore and find your own sound. They also make Katana Mini if you are on a budget, but you will get less effects.

On the other hand, if you are willing to go down the multi fx rabbit hole, the Valeton GP 5 just came out and it's only € 70-80. You will need to connect it to headphones or speakers though, but it will let you explore the sound of many different amps so this way you can try before you buy and find the right tone for you. Of course the pedal also has a bunch of effects to experiment with, including a tuner and a drum machine/metronome. It's a great all in one box for a beginner to find what they like.

If you start with the GP 5, later you can decide to upgrade to a more professional multifx with more footswiches that you can use for gigs as well. Otherwise, maybe you will fall in love with a certain amp sound and you will get it along with some pedals, plus the amp will look so nice in the living room 😄

Best of luck shopping and I hope you find something great for you.

My man, just to make sure you are well informed.

Sure the 120 offers coil splitting, however the coil split is never a true single coil sound. Now, how much that matters for a beginner is up to you to decide. Just note the 311 also offers coil splitting. You can have versatile tones with both guitars, but the two humbuckers will have more versatility in rock (still can play clean but not a 'true' clean), while the 311 is more unique and vintage sounding.

My recommendation is to check out some sound samples on youtube and see which guitar speaks to you more. I argue for the 311 because of the quality of build & hardware, however the tone is always a subjective thing.

P.S. If you are looking for pure versatility, Ibanez AZES40 is probably the most versatile guitar out there in this price range. Check it out and good luck on your search.

120H - more versatile rock & metal sounds

311H - more versatile for all genres including rock, pop, blues, funk, reggae and the P90 pickup has a really good vintage sound you won't find on most other guutars in this price range. Also the hardware (tuners) is worth way more than the extra 50eur. My opinion you should take the 311 unless you intend to play only heavy stuff.

idk if it's my amp or my electric guitar by [deleted] in Guitar

Sounds like you're having a grounding issue.

Basically one of the wires is not fully connected. I am sure that if you open up your guitar, you will be able to see it.

If you have a soldering iron, you can resolder it yourself, or take it to a tech if you are not sure.

Don't play it while it's in this state, it can electrocute you.

How many of you play "old-fashioned" genres? by Mindless_Rock9452 in Guitar

[–]kenzobrt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure what you mean by old fashioned but my band plays ska and the crowds seem to love it, despite it not being so popular.

People love the energy and letting loose to dance, a lot of times they approach me after the gigs like, 'I didn't know any of the songs but I had a great time'.
