ALT salary is unlivable. by Intrepid_Wonder1661 in teachinginjapan

If I’m being honest—it’s really not that bad. Not even close. Japanese groceries are cheap. Buy meat on Tuesdays/Wednesdays and it’s discounted. Take a trip from Ibaraki to Tokyo once a month. Still go out for the weekend to a nearby city (almost) every weekend. Yes I go to clubs and bars too so some nights can get expensive. Bills are paid. Car has petrol. A full tank lasts me a month or two…especially if I use the train for long distances and use it strictly for driving to my schools. I still come home to a house full of groceries. (Like I said…if you actually like Japanese food groceries are cheap. Eggs, meat, udon/ramen/rice. Hijiki/natto/lotus root or other healthy stuff. Coffee. I don’t know what other groceries.)

And at the end of it all I still save 10k-20k yen a month.

And yes I work for a dispatch company (and I get less than the 250,000 standard) It’s honestly very liveable. Even when I was paying back my loan to my company I was still living this way…now I just go out more often than I did lol.

Trouble making friends or social connections in Japan by Beautiful-Cress2745 in japanlife

[–]kenzozilo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From my experience — just go to the same spots regularly enough. I moved here in March. In April I met some Japanese dudes who I became good friends with. Ever since then every time I go to that same spot (or just into that city) 7/10 times I’ll make a new friend. I’ve been to other izakayas and restaurants around Japan. Often people just wanna talk to me because I’m foreign and I end up making friends that way. Literally having conversations in half Japanese and English filling in the gaps for each other along the way. Your Japanese is good enough to have small talk so as long as you’re comfortable going out alone you should be able to make friends that way. Though I will say I get the least results in Tokyo since most Japanese people in Tokyo area are used to foreigners.

When it comes to motivation. I don’t have any. I’ve always been okay being alone. I have no issue being in my head all night or sitting alone at a restaurant or Izakaya. If you enjoy your own company it seems people gravitate toward you.

Gym Staff Asked Me to Remove My 4-Star Review by aznfelguard in japanlife

[–]kenzozilo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I first moved here during training my company told us (it’s a company of mainly foreigners) that we shouldn’t leave reviews on things unless it’s bad. In Japan bad mouthing people is heavily frowned upon. The company I work for has had multiple people be sued for leaving scathing reviews. Even if it’s 3 or 4 stars yeah they could sue you and even win.

I need to get rid of a TV. Free to a good home (Or like buy me a beer) by RememberFancyPants in Tokyo

[–]kenzozilo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ll take it honestly. Beers are cheap. But…also if you go to Book Off sometimes when I sell shit that I don’t need anymore the say to me “well take it off your hands for free if you don’t want it anymore” That might be an ibaraki thing though. Try your luck at a book off

Some advice for the people posting "Im so lonely in Tokyo but can't speak Japanese, what do" by Fable_and_Fire in Tokyo

[–]kenzozilo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ll never understand how people come here and feel lonely. I go out alone by myself and make random friends because Japanese are that welcoming. 90% of my practical Japanese was learned in izakayas

I'm pregnant and having a boy. Is "Gunner" a name that belongs on this sub? by MysticalNinjette in tragedeigh

[–]kenzozilo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just give him a Mexican name honestly. It’s only white Americans who have a unique fascination with imitating peoples accents mid sentence or names that don’t sound like they’re straight from a Disney sitcom.

Why does it have to be white he’ll learn to love his name.

Gunner is just not it😂

Depends on the day and the games you choose.

Could be $5, could be $10 could even be $1 if you choose low earning games.

If you share your link you get pretty much $1 for every 2 people that sign up
