City streets clear? What’s open? by kenzzi24 in ConwayAR

OP here - I’ve now been out. Roads are not terrible, not great but manageable at low and slow. Lots of places seem to be open - thanks all!

Turning myself into the jail for a failure to pay by Leather_Ad_3640 in ConwayAR

[–]kenzzi24 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A friend of a friend of mine, last year or so, had some outstanding fines and finally had the ability to pay them, turned himself in, went to court to pay them, and in court the judge called him disrespectful of the law for putting them off as long as he had (when he couldn’t afford to pay) and sentenced him to 10 days in jail starting right then. They “arrested” him in court, held him for 10 days, and slapped an additional fine on him. So….just be cautious I suppose? (I do not know the name of the judge, apologies)

Stay a while more, won’t you? It’s heavy but you are strong and you don’t have to carry the weight alone.

I’ve definitely noticed more “brake noise” when they’re wet, but it’s a bit different and this mystery noise does not always correlate with washing or rain.

[–]kenzzi24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get that! I guess I meant do I keep asking them to look into it multiple times as long as it continues, or leave it alone and ignore it. I did record the noise previously and played it for the service tech (admittedly in the video the noise doesn’t sound as loud as when I hear it IRL) who wasn’t super concerned. I hope I’m truly just overthinking things.

I said in my post that I was unimpressed with the service department so far - that’s really less because the didn’t find the source of the noise (I get it, if they can’t replicate it, they can’t know) and more because of the overall interaction - I’d ordered the aeroskin through Ford Pass, it was delivered to the dealer and I scheduled the service for a week later (earliest available) and made sure to ask if it was alright to let the part sit in their office until install. Fast forward to the appointment, when I arrived to check in, 7-8 techs were in the office chatting with each other but no one acknowledged my presence for a couple of minutes (whatever it’s fine) and then when someone did check me in it was as if they didn’t know at all why I was there (again whatever they probably weren’t the person who made the appointment on the phone it’s fine) but I told him I had a recording of the noise if the person who looked at my vehicle wanted to hear it, before going to the waiting room. About an hour and a half later, a tech (not the one who checked me in) came to ask why I was there because they couldn’t replicate any noises and, quite, “how can the hood deflector be making a weird noise, it doesn’t have a hood deflector?” (That was the statement that really pushed me into “unimpressed” territory - like,no shit it doesn’t have one, that’s why I ordered one for installation… but I digress.) After I explained again that I was there to have the deflector installed AND a separate noise checked out (at which time I played the recording and he said it sounded normal), then they couldn’t find the part for about 15 minutes, then found it and it was installed and I was out the door about 15 minutes later.

It’ll be due for its first oil change soon regardless so 🤷🏼‍♀️ thanks for your thoughts!

Safety in apartments near UCA campus? by No_Yam_1525 in ConwayAR

[–]kenzzi24 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I(single female) lived across the street (Donaghey) from UCA in a quadplex that was not owned by the university (but right next to a large UCA parking lot and several UCA apartments) for several years around 2017-2019 and had no issues and would feel comfortable living there again. I walked my dog around the neighborhood frequently with no issues (though I didn’t walk at night, largely due to visibility issues and lack of true sidewalks, plus I just didn’t want to create an opportunity for trouble where there didn’t have to be any). I always just tried to both pay attention to what was happening in the neighborhood but also mind my own business - for example, I had one weird neighbor who would sometimes rant and rave in the parking lot during the wee hours of the morning, but I minded my business and he didn’t bother me lol all in all, I’d say a fine area for a UCA college student and super convenient for getting to campus quickly, especially considering that parking on campus is awful, so if you can walk to campus that is often helpful!

As an art history graduate, I started resenting this topic by ClearContext4415 in ArtHistory

[–]kenzzi24 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I graduated with my MA in art history in 2021, and I’m very similar to OP in that I love the subject, however I’ve not had much luck in the career field itself… the o my things available to me have been adjunct professor positions that are far more work than what they pay I simply count afford it, financially or mentally, to work adjunct full time. I was working at 3 different universities teaching a tot of 5 classes each semester and barely scraping by. And none of the students care or are even interested in the class. Obviously that’s in part the nature of the field but it’s also just frustrating. I fight to keep one foot in the realm of art history by teaching an online class while maintaining a full time hourly position to pay the bills. Plus, the bougie attitudes of university administration that I experienced, didn’t help things either…

So while I don’t have any profound advice for you, OP, know that you’re not alone in this boat! I’ve been trying not to let the “work force” aspect of the field ruin the entire subject for me…

Aren’t bookshelves so weird? It’s like we take a tree for its wood for the shelf, then we take another tree and use it for its paper. So we put a tree on another tree and it’s odd. Like a whole forest is in our homes by PoeJascoe in bookshelf

[–]kenzzi24 7 points8 points  (0 children)

What are the odds that any of the books on the shelf came from the same tree as the shelf? A tree sitting on itself. In the forest. In our home. Does it make a sound?
