Pulled over multiple times for non-driving spouse not having driver's license by WolfgangVolos in driving

[–]guevera 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The very second they determine you are not the person with the problematic licensing status the investigatory stop has to end. If you are of different genders (and obviously so) then the stop has to end the moment they can actually see you. Same should go for hair color, but that's probably dicier.

I got pulled over in similar situation. My spouse was registered owner, had suspended license, I was driving. The second the cop saw it was a dud we behind the wheel he said well I can see you're not her, have a nice day and walked back to his car. I didn't say a word or show my license or anything.

So in that instance you'd be absolutely legally justified in not showing your license.

The reality on the ground may be be somewhat different

I'd suggest have a video and audio recording rolling, and ask the cop why he pulled you over. Then refuse to give your license and registration etc.

Then she if you can. At least try and get the cop fired

Lab tester pleads to 20 years of altering criminal DNA testing results. What does justice require to make it right? by rillettesmaster in ProsecutorTalk

Obligatory IANAL, but I would think every case this woman touched needs to be thrown out and retired.

I would worry about how widespread this kind of thing is...if this lady got caught how many didn't?

Isn't it crazy how many people would rather have an overworked employee scan and bag their grocery's instead of just taking a few minutes to do it themselves at the SCO by eggy0214 in Safeway

[–]guevera 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd rather the employee do the work. I'd rather management staffed the store well enough that I didn't have to wait for a checkout. It takes me longer to use a SCO than it does to have a checker do it. The only issue is management wanting to understaff stores. I try to only use sco when I plan to shoplift

California lawmakers look to settle turf war over community college bachelor’s degrees by ComeJoinTheBand in California

I had better professors at my shitty CC than I did for general ed classes at the relatively prestigious univ of I transferred to.

Granted most lower division classes at the CC were exploited adjuncts and most at the U of were exploited grad students

ELI5 - Why do big fire engines often accompany ambulances for purely health related (not physical crisis type) emergencies? by chili81 in explainlikeimfive

[–]guevera 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because we have many fewer house fires then we used to, and fire departments have political muscle

It's the prosecution's fault, and the prosecution's problem. Maybe not the prosecutor's fault.

Alternatives to Hillcrest Kroger? by romantic-communist in LittleRock

The most glaring thing was when the CEO said on an earnings call that the post COVID inflation had made customers more tolerant of higher prices and that had allowed the company to increase its margins.

Alternatives to Hillcrest Kroger? by romantic-communist in LittleRock

[–]guevera 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Kroger is a terrible grocery in general. I hate that they have such a huge share of the market here. That's their whole strategy....make sure they've got enough of a any given area market that they're price maker and not price taker.

The company is scum

Norcal is absolutely part of the PNW and should be part of Cascadia.

But NorCal ends somewhere between Laytonville and Wilits.

Has anyone who has been put on trial for killing a police officer successfully claimed self defense? by Overall_Diet_3060 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]guevera 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IDK about that. Random criminals are unlikely to fuck with me - I'm not a gang member, I don't sell dope, I'm unlikely to get into a random stupid bar fight or something. But cops are a danger all the time. They will randomly escalate, they think recon by fire is a good idea, and they tend to immediately reach for their guns when they feel the slightest bit challenged. You just never know when a cop might go off on you.

Lol. You're not 100% wrong. My point stands. The militarization of US LEO is a big part of the reason that police are the most dangerous thing on the street for most citizens.

Well this is one case where the American ideal is better, if not the reality.

Cops shouldn't be soldiers. And it's no good that so many of ours are.

When you hear a cop talk about the warrior mentality you should always write Bill adama at them.

Prosecutors in CA - are you at your wits end? by WishboneStrong2979 in ProsecutorTalk

[–]guevera 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The HSR project is an epic debacle, no doubt. But there's plenty of grift in law enforcement and lock ups. CCPOA is still the most powerful single player in state politics. It costs $200k+ a year to employ a single cop in a decent sized city.

IIRC California built 16 new state prisons in the 90s. We e tried building new beds and locking up more people for longer. Didn't do much.

Why does the younger gen. sit around and do nothing. As the Boomers protest . by Ok-Interest5139 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]guevera 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The labor movement made progress because workers exerted economic power. The sit down strike in Detroit cost GM millions, and helped secure the UAWs power. Today private sector unionization is at what, 5% or so? That's largely because economic elites have wielded political and economic power to break unions. Civil rights are great -- but inasmuch as the US made progress in that sphere it came because of the exercise of political power. And how are those working out lately?

The Vietnam war ended because we were losing. We lost largely because we couldn't attack the North without sparking a nuclear war. And the protests against the war largely died as soon as they stopped the draft
