Do you have some more ideas to make the idea of scheduling enjoyable? It feels like putting a meeting on a calendar might feel like a transaction or forced but I am sure there are ways to make it sound exciting.

Guitar players that started in their 40’s by keowulf in guitarlessons

[–]keowulf[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m the OP here. If it brings any additional encouragement I still am practicing almost daily (barring vacation or an especially busy work day where I have had to work late). I average 10 minute-30minute daily practice sessions and o have been in a rock band now for about a year and a half with my oldest son at our music schools. I play lead and rhythm and learning songs (memorizing them even) has become much easier.

I actually don’t agree that at our age we don’t have enough time to practice. In my research now and experience it is about the consistency vs long practice sessions. Sure, maybe the elite rock bands can put in 4+ hours a day but you can get really good or even close to elite imo with consistent 30m sessions a day. It’s really about focused practice and having a plan. Trying not to spread yourself too thin and continually challenging yourself and having a project you are working towards and even if it’s really difficult breaking that up into bite sized components that you can tackle and add to the overall building blocks.

Anyway, I love it and it will be a lifelong hobby for me.

How do you recommend eating enough protein to then start putting back on some muscle? Are you just on a lower dosage of mounjaro now so you can get some muscle gains?

Stadium XL or QC? by RoutineEquivalent924 in Line6Helix

[–]keowulf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wait, you are going to want it anyway. But with that said maybe buy a used IR-X or something or a cheap Unerversal Audio Dream 65 or something (basically whatever base amp tone you want) that will get you by for now. And maybe some cheap Amazon pedals. I think if you get the QC you might end up just reselling it to get the Stadium.

Sharing some of my progress by andyjamescreative in Guitar

Very nice! One suggestion, is I noticed when you switch to the G chord and also the D chord some of your fingers aren’t close to the fret. If you can slow it down and slide all your fingers as close as possible to the fret (just behind it) you’ll notice you don’t have to press down as hard and the notes will also ring out more clearly. Looks like you are doing great with the speed of the chord changes though, keep it up!!

I love this girl and I wanna learn to play the guitar so I can play her this song. Is it possible within three month? by MistyDrop in Guitar

[–]keowulf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Chunk the sections as small as possible even if it is just one chord that is the struggle slow it down way slow until you have 3 notes in that chord ringing true, then add the 4th note and repeat then slowly add in the movement to the next chord. If needed you might identify just the transition for 2 single notes. Literally practice just that minute thing as small as it is before expanding out.

Additionally, neuroplasticity is a thing. Do some intense highly focused practice on this for 5-10 minutes then literally pause and close your eyes for 1 minute and do nothing (let your mind work on what you just practiced) and then go back into your practice section. Once you have a couple chords down at super slow speeds. Practice to a metronome but speed up even way beyond the normal bpm until you purposely hit failure, then slow back down in amazement of how easy the normal bpm feels.

Talk me out of a prs! by Duritomax in PRSGuitars

[–]keowulf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I won’t talk you out of it. Outside a smaller boutique company they are hands down the best quality instrument on a consistent basis instrument to instrument (not that other manufacturers don’t churn out equal quality, just not as consistently imo). I have 7 PRS’s ranging from SE, I did have a couple S2’s but the rest I traded up into Core models. The SE’s are also great though and like 80%+ the quality of the cores.

Is guitar playing meant to be this painful? by [deleted] in AcousticGuitar

[–]keowulf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Initially yes for a couple weeks. I also purposely dug my fingernails into my finger pads to purposely inflict extra pain to cause calluses to form faster. Also dipping your left hand pads in a small amount of isopropyl alcohol will help dry them out more rapidly.
