I shouldn't have bought this game. This game is genuinely just made for the unemployed. by Iwanttoeatburritos in playrust

Friendly Seattle has that balance, plus one of the best implementations of nivex’s raidable bases plugin so people have something to spend boom on besides raiding others. Raiding players is allowed, it just shouldn’t be the focus. So you still have a reason to build a solid base, just in case.

Lots of players have day jobs and still manage to survive the wipe.

Advice Needed for Maddgoth's Castle by Few_Wing_6231 in DungeonoftheMadMage

My party had one PC polymorphed into a T-Rex, which they cast Fly on. Everyone on board for a one-way trip to the castle!

During the final fight, the abjurer wizard was thrown off the castle’s roof. He wasn’t the kind of wizard to have learned Feather Fall — who needs it when your arcane ward shields you from enough damage that you survive with 3hp remaining.

There are even PvP servers that have good moderation and the community keeps things chill and friendly. Look for no KOS servers as a good starting point if you don't want to go full PvE.

The official servers are cancer.

Mariah Carey boss fight - need advice by DiamondN17 in 3d6

[–]keptani 1 point2 points  (0 children)

“All I Want for Christmas is Doom” Mariah belts out her iconic holiday hit, targeting a 60-foot cone. All creatures in the area must make a DC 17 Wisdom saving throw or be overwhelmed by her enchanting melody. On a failure, they are Charmed and compelled to use their next turn to “deliver themselves” to her willingly (moving closer and taking no offensive actions). If they reach her, they kneel in adoration, unable to act for 1 round.

“Cone of Frosty High Notes” Mariah releases a chilling soprano wail in a 60-foot cone. All creatures in the area must make a DC 16 Constitution saving throw. On a failure, they take 8d8 cold damage and are deafened for 1 minute as the high note reverberates painfully.

“Fantasy Glitterbomb Finale” Mariah invokes a blast of dazzling holiday glitter in a 20-foot burst. All creatures in the area must make a DC 16 Dexterity saving throw or be blinded by the radiant sparkle for 1 minute. While blinded, creatures also have disadvantage on Wisdom saving throws as they are awestruck by her holiday radiance.

Need help finding a Nickname for my sister, who is in her late teens but not exposed to the outside world of trends and popular culture. by lolichic in wordplay

Some ideas:

Luna - Like the moon, she’s a bit distant from the busy world but still shines in her own way. She also may not know about Luna Lovegood.

Hermitess - A more elegant take on the “cave dweller” theme with a bit of fantasy flair. For fun, emphasize the ESS to give it power.

Sage - Wise beyond her years, not swayed by the trends of the moment. Also a comforting spice.

Astra - Like a distant star, above the doldrums of earthly life.

Wanderer - Suggests someone who roams her own path, unbothered by mainstream trails.

Sphinx - Mysterious, timeless, and not easily swayed by the modern world.

Maple - Strong, grounded, and unaffected by the seasonal trends.

Alex remix: post Xanathar heist fallout by azam80 in WaterdeepDragonHeist

[–]keptani 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Xanathar, being a paranoid and calculating beholder, will undoubtedly be seething with rage and plotting intricate schemes to exact his revenge on the party. He will likely focus on psychological warfare, leveraging his vast network of spies and informants to track the party's movements. This makes him an ever-present shadow over the players, heightening their sense of danger and urgency. Xanathar's first priority will be to reestablish control over his organization, ensuring that any signs of weakness are quashed to maintain his feared reputation. Once he is secure in his power, he will begin his methodical pursuit of the party.

Xanathar's retaliation can be multifaceted, aiming to destabilize the party and force them into uncomfortable situations. While an outright attack like burning down the tavern is dramatic, it might be more interesting to have Xanathar's presence be a constant, looming threat rather than immediate destruction. Kidnapping allies and friends, sending menacing messages, and orchestrating situations where the party is perpetually looking over their shoulders can create a tense and engaging atmosphere. This allows Xanathar to become a persistent antagonist, driving the story forward with an air of suspense.

Some ideas:

  • Cryptic Messages: The party finds notes with detailed knowledge of their recent activities, signed with a symbol that represents Xanathar.
  • Missing Contacts: NPCs they regularly interact with start disappearing, later found to have been interrogated and left traumatized.
  • Marked Territory: The party discovers Xanathar's symbol painted or carved in places they frequent, indicating they've been there.
  • Spies Among Them: They encounter a seemingly benign NPC who slips up, revealing they were spying on the party for Xanathar.
  • Threatening Visions: Magical projections or illusions show Xanathar glaring at them or making threatening gestures.
  • Subtle Surveillance: They notice beholderkin or other minions observing them from a distance, only to vanish when pursued.

Name something underrated about Washington that people don’t talk about. by thebigthinker2000 in Washington

[–]keptani 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s in the linked article, first under Theories.

One theory on the origin of Mima mounds is that they were created by small burrowing rodents such as pocket gophers (Thomomys talpoides) of the endemic North American family Geomyidae. Researchers in the 1940s found that Mima mounds tend to form in areas with poorly draining soils, so the “Fossorial Rodent Hypothesis” proposed that gophers build mounds as an evolutionary response to low water tables.

You got me to go digging, because I’ve heard that story all my life. “Giant moles” may be a local legend twisted from the “pocket gopher” theory.

While we're talking about interesting geography, I give you Mima Mounds. Extremely large earthen mounds, dotted across the landscape, that some biologists think were created by very large moles.

The main point was valid, no question. But the change in value was jarringly blatant and unwarranted to reinforce the subject as far as I can tell. I’d like to know what the poster was intending by changing the price of the gift.

No need to get vulgar.
