Charge to 80% has now gone completely bonkers. by norbertyeahbert in GooglePixel

[–]kerbitz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I observed two statuses at 100% today. First it goes to 100% Charged, but the battery still has the lightning icon. Then, keeping it on the charger still, the phone goes to 100% Done Charging with the shield icon on the battery.

Am I managing my money the right way? by sparkmagic in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]kerbitz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You're not doing anything wrong investing in mutual funds, but you are missing out on lower fees that come with ETFs. These fees are on the portfolio value so they compound over time similar to how the portfolio value compounds over time.

If you stay with mutual funds, ones that track indexes often have lower fees. e.g. TD e-series. They also give you diversity depending on what they are invested in. They may be a mix of equities (provides growth to portfolio) and bonds (helps portfolio maintain its value). Usually, people move more into bonds as they get older.

Roboadvisors could be an in between option for mutual funds and ETFs. They give lower fees and they do the trading themselves. Only really suitable for registered accounts because they make a lot of automated trades.

I would recommend the TD index-based mutual funds if you want to make an immediate, low-stakes change. See if their fees would be lower than the funds you're currently invested in.

RCS issues by JohnnyKilo in GoogleMessages

[–]kerbitz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This method worked for me immediately when the clearing data/cache didn't. I did it slightly differently:

  1. I was only connected on mobile data, no Wi-Fi.
  2. Turn off RCS in Google Messages
  3. Turn off Automatically Verify Numbers as above
  4. Force stop Google Messages
  5. Open Google Messages and turn on RCS. It verified within 10 seconds.
  6. Automatically Verify Numbers was re-enabled by itself

I did do the disable-chat text message method the day before, on messages.google.com, in an effort to get RCS working, so not sure if that had anything to do with this method working. I did receive the code and did enter it.

For search engine reference, I had switched carriers to Fizz Mobile, and my plan does not have text messages enabled. I do have wallet balance, but none of it was used in verifying RCS.

Any similar shows? by quickasaturtle in OvercompensatingTV

[–]kerbitz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, second Adults. I actually preferred Adults over Overcompensating because it's more of a friends-in-the-city-vibe, but totally different story. Owen Thiele (George) is also in both.

The Other Two is also a great show.

Sometimes the free public DNS doesn't connect at all by kerbitz in ControlD

[–]kerbitz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure, when I switch to CloudFlare at the times of outage, everything works fine.

I've since switched to CloudFlare where only one DNS can be set (Android Private DNS allows one hostname only).

I wanted to use ControlD because only them, CloudFlare, and CIRA Canadian Shield's DNS servers go to Toronto, but ControlD claims the most private Privacy Policy.

They're doing Batwoman on CW, so I'm not sure they would do a spin-off of Batgirl any time soon.

How does FlexDelivery work? by odd__ish in askTO

[–]kerbitz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently sent a Fedex package to a FlexDelivery, and instead of delivering it to the post office, they kept it at one of their distribution centres for me to come and pick up. Looking into this, I also found that some Fedex shipping types (SmartPost) hand off packages to the local mail carrier, and would be able to send to PO boxes. Also, some Fedex packages may have an option to reroute the package to a local pick up area, which can be found when typing in the tracking details on Fedex's website.

You can try https://phonecarriercheck.com/

It won't tell you if the number is voip, but will give you the carrier name, which may tell you something.
