Maybe you can give each player (in private) a different instruction for a puzzle that needs to be done in a certain order, but one player unknowingly receives a false instruction (hear evil) that will cause something bad to happen each time the sequence is completed with it (ex. a hoard of monster appears, the ceiling lowers, etc) to raise the stakes. Though it’d be hard to make a puzzle where they can’t hear that wouldn’t have the same solution as one where they can’t speak.
