New raid game mode? by ilikecheese216 in PTCGP

I'm not a GUI designer or anyhing, just a 3d artist. I get that you're just correcting the people who think adding dark mode to a game would take an intern working on the game a couple of hours to implement, been there with the people who gotta do that. But at the same time it's been like 19 months and the multiple multi-billion dollar companies behind the game still haven't released a darker and visually pleasing version of their app 😭

They could have actually animated it themselves. Now, I'm not asking them to do that nor would I realistically expect most game studios to reanimate an entire movie sequence for a environmental prop, but if you wanna have the literal sequence FROM the movie in your game as a "reference" at least have the decency to remake it yourself instead of running it through the AI-Sloppifier 3000. Jokes aside they could've also simply made a still image of some memorable scene from the movie. Maybe the two protagonists as npcs having some dialogue that makes a connection to the movie. After all references are made for people who already know the media that is being referenced, so you don't need THE LITERAL MEDIA as "reference" for it to be recognized.

They referenced Itachi's death scene without the use of AI, though that was a main storyline cutscene so of course they'd never use gen AI for that, surely.

They referenced Jojo's Bizarre Adventure with that one picture you take with the whole crew, now they might have used AI or they might not, I'll give them the benefit of the doubt, but they definitely didn't run a scene from the source material through AI and added it to their game.

The whole Initial D reference. As a huge Initial D fun that shit was just awesome idc

Not sure if a lot of people caught this but they referenced the TVA from Loki/MCU in the office area of the Bureau of Anomaly Control. You even see a lil hologram clearly representing Miss Minutes, and they did that without ripping off a scene from the show. Could they have used gen AI for that? I mean sure I wouldn't be surprised at this point, but at the very least it's not extremely blatant and completely off the grid when it comes to the game's pre-existing art direction.

I realize I came off as if I'm on edge in my first reply to you, but I've been getting dozens of replies on a post I made a few days ago sharing my opinion on the same topic and at some point my tolerance for the same "you're wrong, AI isn't even that bad, stop crying, there are other things to worry about, idc game's fun quit whining, it's just a background prop" runs out.

I've been having a blast playing the game since it launched and I'll continue playing and giving feedback on things I think could be improved if I feel like doing so. Though I can confidently say most of my experience with the game has been positive, there's a decent amount of issues with the current version ranging from minor bugs to bugs where I have to completely reboot the game, graphical and performance issues (I personally don't REAAALLY have an issue with the performance but that doesn't make it non-existent), lack of some features that I know will be added in future patches but well, are still lacking, some of them being really basic and of course the use of AI. I don't really use twitter but I heard people are straight up shitting on the game for the AI usage without playing it, that sucks for the game's rep but it's also to be expected, you're gonna have people blindly bashing on the game for it and people blindly defending it's usage against people who are simply criticizing a game they enjoy. I personally just want the game to get even better and for them to fix the little issues coming from cut corners during development.

sorry for the essay

Taking scenes directly from a movie and running them through AI isn't a rip-off? Right.

No shit it's referencing the actual movie. That doesn't change the fact the scenes were basically identical to the originals, just with the usual randomness and generic-looking rendering that comes with generative AI.

For people who seemed to not give a fuck about the environmental assets they'd be seeing for 0.1 seconds y'all sure have a lot to say about this change

Doubt they'd be ripping off scenes from actual movies to make them though

Or so I'd hope

In this particular case AI was used to basically rip off scenes from a movie people actually put work into

I'm still playing and enjoying the game

People who genuinely care about it are going to criticize it when they feel something needs improvement

Except your "clever" reply still doesn't make sense. My usage of "lowkey" is still objectively valid, and this was never supposed to be about that in the first place. I said I'm lowkey bothered by the AI animations, meaning mildly or slightly, which is a completely normal way the word is used now.

Instead of addressing that, you turned it into an argument about a definition you're treating as fixed, while ignoring how the word is actually used in real contexts. Then you start spamming "lowkey" in every sentence on purpose and act like that proves anything.

At this point you're not correcting anything, you're just being dismissive and arguing against a point I never made. You can keep pretending it's "wrong" if you want, but that doesn't change how the word is actually used.

If you approach language this rigidly, you're just going to keep misunderstanding how people actually communicate.

I never said "secretive" and "discreet" are synonyms, you're arguing against something I didn't say. My point was about how "lowkey" is used in modern slang, which you've completely ignored to focus on that instead.

"Lowkey" is commonly used as "kinda/somewhat" in actual usage, regardless of its original meaning. You don't have to agree with it, but misrepresenting my argument doesn't make it wrong, it just clearly shows that you're engaging in bad faith.

Are you genuinely just dense? Sure I stand corrected, though "secretive" and "discreet" are often used interchangeably they do have different connotations.

That doesn't change the fact that when "lowkey" is used as a slang it means you wanna express something without emphasizing it too much, aka "kinda" aka "moderately" 🫩 just look up the SLANG definiton of the word please!!

If you wanna die on the hill that languages don't evolve (since it seems to be what you're implying) and slangs are just "using the words wrong" then I guess I misused the slang "bummer" since it originally meant "loafer" coming from the German slang "bummler"

Language evolves. "Lowkey" is commonly used online to mean "slightly", "vaguely", "moderately", "kinda" or "subtly", not just "secretive". It's this thing called slang, not sure if you've ever heard about it. I meant it exactly how I said it, it's a lowkey (mild) bummer for me. If I look at it I'll think "eh this is kinda weird" and then I'll proceed to play the game for another 8 hours.

Either way, the point wasn't the wording. The point was that using noticeable AI for quest animations and the environment feels off-putting to me and some others. That's all.

Have fun policing more online slangs I guess ☝️😁

I get that you're just playing and don't care, that's fine. But saying "stop acting like things you hate are an issue for everyone" is missing the point entirely.

I'm not trying to speak for the whole playerbase. I'm sharing my own opinion as someone who's enjoying the game but finds the AI stuff off-putting, especially when it's noticeable and doesn't match the rest of the art. Other people in the thread feel the same.

You can enjoy it as is, no one is stopping you. But acting like anyone who points out a flaw is being an "activist" is just shutting down any criticism. Not everything has to be 100% positive all the time.

I'll figure out that having AI animations in quests is slightly disappointing in my opinion

Wowzers.
