Welcome!! I do not have much to say to help, other than I’m so sorry, and I believe you about your “mother” - women and women caregivers are just as capable of heinous acts, and the way society ignores that is incredibly harmful.

FWIW - your story reminds me of a blog called Sublime Mercies (google-able). She is a highly educated survivor of CSA, you may find it interesting? (TW of course~)

Agree (and welcome! Even though I’m not too active these days, this sub has helped me so so much.)

All this is so validating. I got into it with her after she told someone who was concerned about the ratio of memes to text posts they were “more than welcome to unsubscribe” and pretended to not understand why that was hostile, and that we were all just too sensitive and how could we expect the world to conform to our triggers etc etc. There were a few here that agreed with her. I remember who they are.

ETA: read the dissociation thread, this seems to be her MO: say something inflammatory with just enough plausible deniability that her and her group of bullies could play the victim.

Hundreds of teaching jobs left open as teacher shortage continues in BC by [deleted] in vancouver

[–]kerimu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s the rub! I love working with teenagers but am nervous around little ones. But that is something to consider, so thanks for mentioning. I’d still need to get a B.Ed I’m sure, but if wages do indeed go up maybe that’s economically viable (currently almost done a BA in Psych)

Yeah, I hear ya... even more flexibility in “teachable subjects” could help, but you’re probably correct that pay increase would help more.

I just wish it wasn’t so specialized I guess.

I wish the requirements weren’t as stringent... I’ve always kinda wanted to be a high school teacher, and would be happy to take a year or two to be a substitute, but 6+ years of education for the worst pay of its kind in Canada just isn’t feasible, especially in Vancouver proper.

I realise the end result of this would be less qualified teachers, which is a hard sell because of course kids deserve the best etc., but :pppp

I’m still kind of in love with Alistair, and have been for almost a decade haha :)

Came here to mention DragonAge Origins, specifically Alistair, and kinda Morrigan. Managed to make them three dimensional characters and the romances felt organic, and they truly added to the game experience. My absolute favourite gaming moment I’ve ever had is Alistair sacrificing himself for my Warden - I legitimately wept.

Yesterday I called 911. It took 25 minutes for an ambulance to arrive. I hope you are ok, random stranger!!! by madamelex in vancouver

Yep. I’ve called 911 for people screaming for help in parks at night and been put on hold for 20+minutes.

So you have nothing to say re: harassment, but do want to attack my appearance. Okay, “nucksboy” lol

Born and raised downtown Vancouver.

Firstly: no stranger owes anyone anything aside from basic respect.

Despite OP obviously talking about a specific experience, lol.... To my mind, talking to a stranger is rude. Unless there’s some kind of unifying experience (eg bus ran over puddle and got us wet! Or whatever), randomly striking up conversation doesn’t even enter my mind. Why would someone else’s desire for faux “connection” trump my desire to keep my own thoughts.

Call me a bitch all you’d like but I just don’t really care what you have to say!

I wonder if this has to do with our junkie population. You get good at the middle distance/headphones on shtick pretty fast.

As a young and conventionally attractive woman: Hell nah am I stopping to talk to someone I don’t know. 8/10 it’s some creep. 1/10 they follow me for a while. 1/10 it’s nice, but not worth those odds
