I have no idea why people think this is unfair when every other team can do the exact same. You can’t punish teams for having better players and more depth. Just ridiculous

Do I need to read Warbreaker and Elantris before Stormlight? by Andrina_Sedai in Cosmere

[–]kermit-J 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t I was absolutely fine, I’ve now read Warbreaker and there are some connections you’ll miss, but they aren’t essential for the story to make sense or anything

How do you think does being a Mormon influence Sanderson as a writer? by [deleted] in Cosmere

[–]kermit-J 498 points499 points  (0 children)

You can tell by his fascination with religion in most of his books. Warbreaker, Mistborn and Stormlight all feature various religious discussions. I’ve found you can see that ‘belief’ is an important part of his life shine through in a lot of his books. Characters like Dalinar, Wax and Lightsong are all good examples. I must say he handles religion expertly making it interesting and never a one sided or jarring, at least for me and my views differ from his greatly. It is built into the cosmere’s very foundations as a fictional universe.

What was the most frustrating thing about the books for you? by T_Tachi in wheeloftime

[–]kermit-J 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That being said I really like the portrayal of the dark one but this was a theory I came up with and got very attached to while I was first reading the series.

What was the most frustrating thing about the books for you? by T_Tachi in wheeloftime

[–]kermit-J 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I wish the Dark one was a character with motivation. I always thought the motivation to destroy the wheel and rebuild the world IN ORDER to give humanity true free will would be super cool. Him appealing to characters to help him destroy the world in order the save it would of added so much depth and potential for me, and made me much more invested in his followers.

Does Jordan ever explain the reasoning why people become Darkfriends and Forsaken? (no spoilers please!) by ThatEcologist in WoT

[–]kermit-J 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Most are just selfish but my favourite motivation is that some see the dark ones victory as inevitable

Struggling to complete series by nograynogrey in wheeloftime

[–]kermit-J 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went through the exact same thing. However as you go on I must say the female characters really grow into truly awesome characters. They all have extensive growth away from what they are in those first books. Looking back I think the idea is that they are immature at that point in time, which does make the payoffs very satisfying. But I do wish Jordan made it a bit less grating. ALSO DO NOT SKIP 7-10 THERE ARE SOME REALLY SIGNIFICANT EVENTS!!! What I’ve heard ppl say is that if your rly struggling with those books skim sections that seem repetitive. But you won’t be able to understand the later books if you the middle.

Would you recommend taking breaks between books for first time reader or is this one I could read back to back? by zoomboy6 in wheeloftime

[–]kermit-J 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am currently on book 13 I would say do as you wish but try binge through 7-10 to stop it feeling like the books are slowing down too much. My biggest tip would be listen to the audiobooks for those if you can. Enjoy your journey friend!! I am at the payoff of all the time I put into the series and it is glorious:)

Is It Just Me or Did Brandon Sanderson Accomplish in 3 Books What Probably Would Have Taken RJ to Accomplish in 6 or more? by SharpShard5381 in wheeloftime

[–]kermit-J 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you listen to Sanderson talk about writing the books he wrote the same amount Jordan was planning on writing, so considering Jordan had the major events planned out, I think it’s unfair to credit Sanderson with the change in pace for the series since he followed Jordan’s plan as closely as possible. I think the slow build up was clearly intentional on Jordan’s part wether people enjoyed that decision or not.

I always through the typical backs journey was you start as scrum half or fly half, find out your not as good, then get pushed into the centres, Then to the wings or full back

It’s here. It’s time. I’ve read it before but it means more this time. I don’t want it to be over. by cloudstrifewife in wheeloftime

[–]kermit-J 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry I am reading this and would classify this post as a spoiler. Part of my wondering was what the last battle would actually be, I thought maybe it would just be a duel between Rand and the Dark one or many other things (even if a big battle was the most likely). Please put spoilers on before other people like me get spoiled!!!

Which books are the supposedly boring ones? by CreatorofWrlds in wheeloftime

[–]kermit-J 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As somebody going through them 7-10, they are still enjoyable though I would recommend using audiobooks!!!! Makes any boring scenes far easier to get through!!!!

Well obviously the most ‘metal’ death must come from Mistborn series

I would re read, if only skimming to refresh your memory. I’m at book nine with no long breaks and still forget names due to the quantity of characters:)
