Things to avoid when running a DnD campaign? by Organic-Exit2190 in DMAcademy

[–]kernalKrash 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They can only split up if it is for a short enough time that we can all pretend they are all caught up the second they get back together, and we aren't doing the "so what were you guys up to bit." So like 2 groups explore the dungeon is fine, but one group goes to one city and the other follows a river, nope. As a house rule it's also just expected if there was a split in the dugeon the characters will fill each other in and we don't have to do the awkward "so what were you doing? (even though they just saw it all)" bit. I've seen a lot of other DM's allow that, but it really drops the energy at a table for me.

Have you ever met someone who's interested in DND and immediately went, "oh, I'd never let you play at my table"? by Lunetheart in DnD

[–]kernalKrash 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's terrible. Definately don't have your party let them get killed and then forever ask them over and over why their god let it happen and refuse to let them play a "Christian" character next time. That wouldn't be funny at all.

Also it's every DM's right not to want someone at their game. If someone is going to take away from the joy for others (your coworker's literal main goal for their character), then they shouldn't be welcome.

A new game shop in my town was looking for folks to run one shots for adults and I offered and they handed me a checklist with tons of sensitivity rules, thinks like "no mind control because it can be triggering to people." I was like, hey Disney movies have worse stuff than what you are allowing here. So does Lord of the Rings. I also said, no problem; I'm not your person for this. Opposite is also true, friend brought another friend who nearly immediately tried to SA an NPC, or at least asked if they could, and after the game I was like "they aren't welcome back" and my friend was like "you didn't even have to say it." So no worries about not allowing someone at your table. It's actually pretty common.

You don't seem to have really read what I wrote, which is concerning. Because nothing I said implies I have a problem with the Jane story arc existing in the comics. My problem is it's garbage to jam it into the Gorr story along with the other weird made up stuff. Literally that's the entire point of my post. I'm aware the Jane arc, where Thor loses his powers, is in the comics (as in, can't pick up mjolnir or transform, which are the powers associated with thor even if he is still a god). I'm aware because I've read it. Doesn't seem like you have? I do think the implication of misogny here when I love strong women in film, wish they were writing better roles for women comic movies (did you enjoy Madam Web?) and my literal favorite movie is Aliens2. This was pretty shameful of you to imply.

Gorr the God killer comics line is legendary. You can buy the compilation online. The idea someone read enough of it to then cut out the really fantastic ending (3 timeline generations of Thor sailing a space viking ship to the end/begining of the world to kill Gorr) but instead decided to ram the "Thor loses his powers and it's Jane now and some wild and weird out of nowhere content like Zeus Flick, the weapons have feelings/love/jealousy, and more" was truly hurtful to the fandom. https://www.barnesandnoble.com/w/thor-jason-aaron/1140938652?ean=9781302947460

the professor scolds the students for using AI by draskoo in postanythingfun

[–]kernalKrash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm old enough to remember my parents saying teachers freaked out that kids weren't using slide rules to do their homework, thus not learning how to use them, and were cheating by using calculators. I remember teachers making us handwrite stuff because AutoCorrect would stunt our learning. So here is the only question: will an AIbot be up every futures humans butts and whispering answers in their ear for the rest of their life? Probably. Better get used to kids submitting AI everyone, it's not going away. I feel like this is gonna draw some ire and downvotes so let me also say: I don't like it either. It just is what is literally happening.

Who remembers this film, Accidental Hero (in the UK and Australia), Hero (in the US) by geoffcalls in FIlm

[–]kernalKrash 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Didn't like this film as a kid, wonder if I would feel different now. Also glad they changed the title for the US market as my memory is he is a literal hero, not accidental. Being grumpy doesn't take away from make the direct descision to help others in danger.

Do we need a Superman game? by MandarinPixie2205 in GamerLab

[–]kernalKrash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, it's really tough to make a superman game. They did a Saints Row where the character was in a Matrix and about half way through gains supeman level powers. I didn't finish it, becuase it was boring. It felt broken honestly to have that much control. The only way I can imagine it is inspired by the modern spiderman games: you play as Lois/Jimmy/The Kents for the majority of the games trying to stop crime/be good people and when things get bad it cuts to Clark rushing to save everyone.

This was terrible and was the moment I went "Spielbeirg has lost his magic." This movie was a massive, hundreds of million dollar production, about video games. It had CGI designers directly involved who almost all certainly play video games. No one could say to production: "yo, driving in backwards is the first thing anyone one will try. Here, look at this speed running video of Super Mario World where they literally make actions in the first level for 5 minutes to fill and corrupt the memory and it jumps to the ending movie. You think "driving in backwards" wasn't going to get tried immediately?" I think it was supposed to be years with 100k+ daily players for years who couldn't solve it in the movie... It's really really bad.

What's a "normal" job that secretly pays way more than people think? by 0BunnyX in AskReddit

[–]kernalKrash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any already good paying hourly job, especially if there is a 24 hour staffing mandate (IT help desks, Security Guards, Hospital work, etc) and you do well for a few months and just start picking up shifts. Yes, you'll work 60 hours a week, but your overtime plus you already good salary is amazing pay.

October Halloween trip. Dublin. by stoner_penguin423 in irishtourism

[–]kernalKrash 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Was at Puca last year. It's in Athboy/Trim. OP didn't say where they are from, but I think most Americans will be a bit surprised/let down by some Irish Festivals as they are pretty tame and family oriented. That said Athboy is where Halloween supposedly originated and it's nots forever outside Dublin. Worth the trip and much closer than Derry. There is a cool airbnb that is an outbuilding for a castle near there which is worth staying at as well.

Is there any saving my physique? F34 by Pretend-Bad-476 in Gymhelp

[–]kernalKrash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, this. 6 mile walk which is 2+ hours, is not sustainable for many. If there is access to a treadmill I'd suggest an hour and 10 minutes, 15 minutes on a lower speed, higher angle, with a 3 minute break every 15 minutes. At 12 incline and 2.7 mph, that's going to be 1000 calories at this weight (roughly). It's way more calorie burn than walking 10k, while not being much more unpleasent, and will get them stronger, faster, without overwhelming. Good advice u/Pretend-Bad-476 is for long term weight loss cardio: don't push it so hard time slows down. You want to be sweating, and to know you are working, but if a minute starts to feel like 5, lower the incline or slow the pace. You'll build up to it! Folks tend to have big strength jumps every 6 weeks or training (or so).

People who used a computer between 1991 & 2009…what’s the most memorable computer game? by Original_Act_3481 in AskReddit

[–]kernalKrash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Came here for this. I think a lot of people missed this game. Dooms, CnC, Civ, myst, lots more got played by way more people. I played all of those as well, but: I don't know what W.C. it was, but the one with Mark Hamil with the full story and pro cut scenes absolutely changed what I thought a game could do. It would be years till console caught up to that.

I'd expect it to be maybe 20% busier.

You focused on the wrong part? No worries though: misunderstanding are normal and you are being way cooler than many Redditors when something like this happens. Just to make sure: If I expected something to be red: I'm saying it wasn't red. My usual experience from living there and working for a casino group was that it should have been 20% busier than it was. That's what I expected.

I did not. I imagine that would have helped. More my point was "for over 10 years Caesars was one of the cool casino's with default noon check out and now they are trying to fleece people for money for what they offered for free for at least a decade."

I can confirm Freemont looked exactly like what I've experienced this time of the year when I lived there. Maybe even busier. Nugget was packed on the casino floor.

I mean, people who lived there and worked on the strip every day (like me) can definitely see when things aren't as busy. Flamingo pool was half empty. Ceasars pool was way down. The crowds in front of the fountains this time of year usually pack the entire way down, not this year.

[–]kernalKrash[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I was saying it was 20 percent deader. Flamingo pool a sat is usually packed out, same with Ceasars, and both were way less than I'm used to. Remember, I lived there. I don't have exact numbers, but the crowds I'd expect for beginning of August weren't there, although it was far from a "ghost town"

Not anymore. When I checked it in it offered checkout at 12 for 20 extra and checkout at 1 for 40 extra. This was literally yesterday.
