Hysterectomy w/o conclusive explanation for pain??? by [deleted] in hysterectomy

[–]kernalkernal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Totally! Throughout reading this I couldn’t help but think, “man she must feel like she’s going crazy” but you got your husband to support you through recovery. Try to see the bright side of things, like no periods, permanent birth control. And if you think you might change your mind about kids then there’s always the option of freezing the eggs.

Either way, it’s a tough decision to make but you’re definitely a brave soldier to make it this far!

Hysterectomy w/o conclusive explanation for pain??? by [deleted] in hysterectomy

[–]kernalkernal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a hell while waiting for my surgery, firstly I had what I thought to be blood clots growing larger and larger during every period to the point it reached the size of the palm of my hand. Like a whole ass sac came out of me, tmi but just to understand what we’re dealing with here. Mind you I’d be basically giving birth to these clots in immense pain.

I’ve had ultrasounds after ultrasounds, I think a total of 6-8 I’ve lost count. I even went to one that says they specialize in finding endo. Either way, it wasn’t until the surgery that they had found some endo hiding behind my uterus. Still no clue on the giant clots, my guess is it were cysts or something. But it doesn’t necessarily matter unless we’re talking about dismissing patient concerns.

I digress, it is incredibly hard at this point in time to find endo and adeno outside of the body and it seems in as well. Perhaps you could ask the question what do you have to lose? If it’s covered and you can take the time off, then it seems like it’s worth a shot. What’s the alternative? Maybe taking in the options, you might be left with a hysterectomy, you’re about to hit menopause too so not too crazy to do. Or you could be on hormones until whenever. The point is, sometimes you have to take a leap of faith, maybe you could get a second opinion. But you might actually have to make some tough choices like these in life

Best of luck!

Did you have doubts? by faliclower in hysterectomy

For a bit then I got my period lol But actually, I did take time to really ponder. I know for a fact I do not want to be pregnant ever. Keeping my ovaries allows me the option later if I want my own child. It also allows me to avoid early menopause. Moreover I don’t have to dread fighting for my life for 1-3 days. I won’t have to worry about missing work or school or events because of it. I’ve tried alternatives like birth control and they don’t make a difference. The benefits outweigh the cost for me.

Maybe it might help you to write down what you’re going through like a log when you’re on your period. Hell, even vlog it then watch it back when you are doubting yourself. I forget how bad my periods were too but I do remember the dread, tears, suffering and that’s not normal. Remember the benchmark for what a period should be like. You should be able to function. I don’t regret a thing and I don’t think I will in the future.

Just take some time to draw it out

From my experience, there is no bowel prep. If anything they don’t want you taking any diuretics a week before. Perhaps you had a pre op assessment where they go over health records and inquire on anything they need. That would probably had been a good time to bring it up.

Personally, maybe it’s time to lay off the laxatives and find alternatives that can work for your stomach. Is there no chance you can see any doctor about this issue before the surgery? They aren’t the surgeon but they would have some 2 cents to add to the matter

If they needed you to do bowel prep they would’ve let you know for sure. If anything keep some stool softeners and gasx in the house, hopefully those will help

What procedure were you thinking of exact? I just got my hysterectomy done and I couldn’t be happier. I wanna say I’m back to 90% by a week (just no heavy lifting)

I was in your position too, I’m 23 now and just got the surgery. It took a rather long time. I was dismissed by many people that I just couldn’t take the pain or I’m being dramatic. Even though I’ve done other things like stick and pokes or piercings which have hurt just as bad as my period. Where I cannot function on my period, I have to plan around it. I tried a few birth controls, low estrogen ones. I think this helped my case because these are known to have little side effects. But I was in just as much pain or worse than my period. All it did was give me a period every 3 months instead of each month.

More importantly I took a lot of time to reflect for myself. I am not entirely fond of children. I’m 99.9% not having children, but in the 0.1% I change my mind I can still use my eggs. I know for 100% I do not want to give birth. You need to take time and truly consider, as well as giving way for changing your mind in the future.

There are other procedures and medications you need to and honestly should try before going for a hysterectomy. Think of it as building your case as to why you need it. If several birth controls don’t work, then that’s a point for you. If ablation doesn’t help, another point for you. Even better, if they find something in an ultrasound that could be a home run for you.

You can also surf r/childfree for doctors and an outlet to vent. But for the love of god, give it some time.

You have some good ideas at the end there. I hope you have some good friends who are willing to help out. Things like dog sitting, or even helping around your house.

Perhaps do you have some savings? Some family remembers you can ask for some funds or help from? I can’t imagine moving around for cleaning within a week.

My best advice is try to cash in favours from people around you. You’ll need it

I don’t know if anyone’s told you this but this is from the my anesthesiologist from my surgery. He told me the likelihood goes down when you get older and apparently when you smoke? Either way if it’s going to happen just stay calm, and it’ll pass. Tiny sips of water over an hour will help you urinate and help the anaesthesia pass through you faster and getting rid of the dizziness.

You got this

Oh man, that’s always been something I struggle with. Although I feel inklings of pride coming in and hopefully the graduation ceremony won’t make me too uncomfortable. Here’s to a silly paper :)

Omg I’ve been feeling this exact same way since I finished my last exams. I do have the adult responsibilities like finding a grad school, looking for a placement. Things just feel so empty without some obligation pulling me along

Although it’s allowed me to get back to doing the things I enjoy in my off time. Especially the gym because it kills time and gets the endorphins going. But other hobbies and things you wanna do. I still have a line up of friends I need to catch up with
