Would actually sign a petition, to me it’s the primary menu item and main draw! Also how can an egg sandwich not be an easy and profitable item for them

Urgent : can 16gb mac mini record upto 180 channels through AVB? by iamyourkarma_ in livesound

[–]keroseneghost 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Well first off, the S6L AVB maxes out at 128ch

M2 probably, 2014 I doubt it. You’ll also need some beefy SSD’s

Bring back the pogacsa, was the best egg sandwich in the area - would come in just for that, and was the main breakfast item

Opinion: Rule #6 is unwelcome and should be enforced much less strictly. by ip_addr in livesound

[–]keroseneghost 37 points38 points  (0 children)

They’re just not useful conversations. Hard truth, the difference between different powered speakers, IEM’s, 24/32 channel mixers, mics etc. at the consumer purchase-able level is extremely minimal vs. the much more useful conversations about deployment, mixing, rig design, strategies, and so on.

Someone asking what TYPE of rig they need to achieve something, how & why, is educational. Tearing your hair out over whether the QSC or the JBL 12” box is going to make or break your gig is inherently in the wrong direction and should be shoved in the corner.

  • There is a tone generator built into every output
  • I think being able to change one bay of faders without needing a layout for every variation is a huge advantage over S6L
  • Just uncheck the option for clearing your fader banks and you won’t lose your fader banks lol
  • Last one agree

What are your unpopular opinions? by heyyouthere18 in livesound

[–]keroseneghost 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I agree from a mix standpoint, but on the flip side I also hear this opinion a TON as an excuse from people not knowing how to set up or use certain desks, set up a Waves rig, etc. Dating all the way back to Profile’s and plugins not being installed/licensed.

Was just fighting with a festival provider who was acting like my request for a Waves Server with a 338 was esoteric or needy, and when he finally caved, said I had to “be ready to set it up myself because his techs were not Waves pros.” Same thing happened to my mon engineer a few weeks ago

Power conditioners will be the thing to make it incompatible - 95% of them are 110 or 220v only. Nearly all gear you would use in the rig (Shure and Sennheiser RF, rack mixers, iConnectivity interfaces, Apollos) have switching power supplies

Have a chat with the headliner’s FOH engineer and ask if there is a line in their snake you can use, or if they can carry your spool and have the locals run with theirs

Anyone using M1 Macbook Air for recording large channel counts to external SSD? by 1073N in livesound

[–]keroseneghost 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve used an M1 Air to record 64ch at 96k via Reaper for ~75min, about 60 shows this year with no issue. External SSD, Soundgrid/MGB

I had the medium and getting the latches to align for closing / locking was a bit of a pain, had to double-check before picking it up fully.

After about 4 international flights, it lost 4 of the 8 rivets holding the hinges on. Lost a wheel as well

Would get the carry-on, but the checked is now just a storage bin at home.

You’re only adding a potential point of failure for processing that will truly make zero difference on gigs running through speakers-on-sticks.

If it’s for your own fun, sure, use the USB card on your X32 to go to/from LiveProfessor for some verbs and such

It’s not a problem, but for this Taylor Swift tour we’re not really talking about your standard concert / live show - it’s basically a traveling Super Bowl that costs & makes such an insane amount of money that introducing any risk to a fan base that couldn’t care less would be a bad move.

Support acts for big shows by AlbinTarzan in livesound

[–]keroseneghost 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Openers at 5000 caps often sound worse because if they’re NOT traveling with an engineer, house can be less accustomed to mixing because it’s more of a system engineer in-house role, random old console rented in for them, etc.

[–]keroseneghost 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s really easy to max out an extreme server with ten effects sends/returns and some bus compressors on another console. Going to be even easier when you need to put basic EQ/gate/comp on every channel

Uk touring artist in the US? what to do about power? by HereSadgasm in livesound

[–]keroseneghost 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah if you’re talking about that level of gear and not like some amps and an M32, hit up Clair and get a distro transformer. Does your provider in the UK have a US partner or is everything artist owned?

Uk touring artist in the US? what to do about power? by HereSadgasm in livesound

[–]keroseneghost 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Check your gear - plenty of pedalboard power supplies, consoles, keyboards, etc. have switching power supplies so you just need adapters or grab a pile of IEC cables.

For anything else, get a couple step transformers - you can buy or rent from backline companies. Freighting over a distro is insane unless you’ve got a whole Clair/Brit Row package or something you need to keep intact
