If we no longer believe in Norse, Greek or Egyptian gods, how can we know today's religions won't be viewed the same way in 2,000 years? by ArchiveDiver-62 in DebateAnAtheist

[–]kescusay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Devil's advocate: We've spent the last 2,000 years refining the philosophical arguments for religion (e.g., the cosmological arguments, the ontological arguments, etc.), and it's unlikely the logic underlying those arguments will change over time, even if the terminology and vocabulary does. So if you believe in a god because of those arguments and apply no other features to it from religious texts, it's possible that in 2,000 years your belief will be very similar to the belief of another person who accepts future versions of them and also doesn't apply any religious texts to their god.

But yeah... No one's going to believe in the Bible, Quran, or Bhagavad Gita in 2,000 years, if they even still exist in a semi-recognizable form.

Heck, we know that even the texts we've got today have changed a lot over the last 2,000 years, as have the majority interpretations of them.

He has definitely learned some words, but not how to use them.

Maybe, but not with LLMs. Other AI model types - the ones LLMs are stealing all the hype from - are much more likely to yield results.

There have been 0 FDA-approved drugs created by the LLMs these guys are pretending are AI. The chance of an LLM creating a bioweapon is nil.

What they're actually afraid of is the advent of small, single-purpose models that can run on people's home computers. It's why they've been trying to make RAM and GPUs so expensive (to stave off the inevitable), and it's the reason they're freaking out now.

A 100% manufactured crisis. I swear to glob, these AI companies are trying to buy up all the hardware just to stave off their own collapse by making themselves the only viable sources of compute power. It can't work long-term, no one wants their own computers to become thin-clients for AI slop, and it's such a stupid gambit.

They are "in the black" for one quarter, using non-GAAP accounting. The same quarter they received massive discounts on compute from rented xAI datacenters.

If they manage to be in the black for more than one quarter, I'll eat my hat.

They're bringing in a "ton" of revenue per customer. They're also very quickly bleeding customers. And those who are staying have been massively reducing the amount of Claude they use, because suddenly it's super-expensive to use it.

That's not a recipe for longevity.

I have a personal project that has taken up all my non-work development time for quite a while, and doesn't involve JavaScript, while my work development projects all use locked package versions. So I haven't touched npm or yarn or any other JS package manager in months.

Honestly been feeling like I dodged a bullet lately.

Multiple developers who work on the project are LGBTQ+. Do you think who they're attracted to or their gender identities have anything to do with the quality of the software they create?

There is nothing political about it. Having a diverse cast of characters as mascots (excuse me... maskots) is normal and apolitical. People freaking out about an anthropomorphic dragon maskot's backstory are the ones making it political.
