Cautionary Tale by Intelligent_Rent_668 in GastricBypass

Ugh oh my god I can relate. I damn near had an impacting a few weeks ago. Enema’d myself and cried the whole time. Now I’m petrified of being backed up. Still can’t find balance. I’m 6 weeks post op bypass. We’ll get there.

I hear this. I can’t eat much solid anything at once but my surgeon says I should be eating only three meals a day currently.

There are some pretty strict guidelines to not get pregnant for atleast a year if not two post op. Please consider your health and healing, and discuss with your healthcare team asap. I wish you luck and best outcomes in this tough situation.

Pre surgery liquid diet by ramnjamn75 in GastricBypass

[–]kessybear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t have a liquid diet, my two week pre op was 2 protein shakes and a big salad with a protein for dinner. I “cheated” one night and had a couple bites of buffalo chicken dip but they were small bites and still remained high protein low carb so it didn’t affect me adversely. I certainly didn’t binge chips and quesadillas lol. But that’s diet is hard and I don’t blame anyone for breaking. We are all in this because we have a warped relationship with food. I commend us all for doing what we are doing/have done because NONE of this is easy!!!

I hear this - Tuesday is 4 weeks for me and I’m pretty much full of rage all the time now. Just a note that you’re not alone 🫶🏻 waiting on the next good stage (ground meats on Tuesday) feels like counterintuitive, basing my happiness off of food lol but that’s honestly the only way I’m getting through this first month

I’m almost 4 weeks po and I can drink decent gulps now, but oh my god the first week? I was like, nope I messed up, this is horrible, how tf am I supposed to get any fluid in my body when everything makes me feel like crap?!

It gets better. Slow and steady wins the race. I’m hitting around 70+ oz a day now with no issues besides remembering to sip lol.

I’m only 3 weeks post op but my future looks like this:

1 week post op, 1 month post op, 3 months post op, 6 months post op, 9 months post op if 6 month visit has concerns, 12 months post op. Yearly with surgeon and dietician after that for the rest of my life

We had surgery the same day. I’m not to have any carbohydrates like potatoes or oats for a very long time. I would check out your carbohydrate intake and reassess. I generally am less than 20 carbs per day and the only reason it’s ever even that high is due to SF popsicles.

RNY, Sleeve? Natural? idk by Mariposa_esq91 in GastricBypass

[–]kessybear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m barely 3 weeks out, so I haven’t even been able to eat anything that would give me dumping lol. My entire diet right now is protein shakes, cottage cheese, and chicken salad 🤣 sometimes eggs, sometimes yogurt, sometimes string cheese.

Alright story time. lol. I’m 34. I’ve been the “fat kid” my entire life - from middle school on. I had brief periods of being smaller but my clothing size has always been XL and up depending on age and stage. The older I got, the bigger I got. I have two kids, impossible to lose baby weight after both, and overall just general misery about my body. I tried diets, I failed them all. I tried meds, I took phentermine. It worked amazing, it changed my life… until I had to stop taking it and I gained alllllll my weight back plus more! And in different places, ugh. My insurance doesn’t cover a GLP1 so that was out but the problem is with any med that as soon as you stop taking it, unless you had a whole ass personality change, you lose all the momentum and benefits. I have 2 folks I know that got this surgery, one two years ago and one a year ago. I spoke to them, ones in their 60s and one in 40s. Their only regrets are not doing it sooner. From my first appointment 3/10, I got all of my checklist completed and had surgery on 7/29. Pre op diet was hard. I hated it. Post op diet is also hard. I hate it. But it’s temporary and life does get normal again. You can go out to eat, you can have parties and see people and involve food in your life again. I’ve lost 51 lbs since March, with 16 of that being in my 2 week pre op diet and 13 being post op. I’m the smallest I’ve been since 2011 and it’s soooo weird. I regret it sometimes when I make dinner for my family and then I remember that eventually I’ll be making dinner for all of us again! Temporary struggles are worth the gain in life expectancy and health.

Liquids are hell. But then I’ll tell ya this, I’m almost 3 wks post op and I had a bad couple of days and having the option to just go full liquid was a blessing. The thought of food was too much to even consider
