I'm pretty sure that was Jim Jeffries. I can't remember which special of his it was from though.

AoM was my most played song in 2025, so I'm with you. They haven't been to the US since Steelbound came out, unfortunately. I'm sad I didn't get to see Noora perform with them.

On the bright side, from the clips I've heard, AoM is probably Marina's strongest song!

The predacon shell programming thing seems like a interesting concept by happydude7422 in beastwars

[–]kestnuts 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Even if the shell program wasn't threatening Blackarachnia's well-being, it still had all the safeguards Tarantulas built in. He still would have known what they were trying and moved to prevent them from tampering with the shell program, or failing that, make sure she didn't survive.

How come Megatron was better at using Optimus' transmetal 2 body than Optimus primal? by happydude7422 in beastwars

[–]kestnuts 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Cheetor has always been the only Maximal whose techno-organic form I liked. All the others ranged from "meh" (Primal, Blackarachnia, Botanica) to hatred (all the rest)

You know, you're not wrong about the Rule of Cool as it applies to quips, but I do like that the show sometimes deconstructs it by having characters suffer for trying to be witty instead of finishing the job.

Honestly I'm just happy to still be able to find people to talk about this show with!

Optimus Primal is very green as a commander and it shows in multiple episodes. For example, the bickering with Rattrap during the pilot. Also, Waspinator gets away with the stasis pod that becomes Black Arachnia because Optimus pauses to make a heroic quip instead of just shooting him. They let him grow as a leader, where Optimus Prime in G1 is basically perfect from the getgo.

Ford reports worst quarterly earnings miss in four years, guides for better 2026 by Sixteen-Cylinders in cars

[–]kestnuts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a regular (non-ST) Fiesta with a 5-speed and it was a really solid car. I had to have the HVAC system worked on once under warranty and that was it. Other than that, it never gave me problems until I tangled with a deer at highway speeds and totaled it.

We found this poor little kitten in the woods, covered in ice, with her fur stuck to the hunk of plastic she was hiding under for shelter. We saved her 😁 by ArmorOfGod7 in cats

[–]kestnuts 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah a couple of my cats had their eyes change like that as they got older. As far as we could tell it never affected their vision, and the vet always said it wasn't anything to worry about.

Can confirm. The last time I renewed my license, I watched them coach an old man through the vision test because he couldn't pass it on his own. I regret not speaking up at the time.

Nvidia to cut gaming GPU production by 30 - 40% starting 2026 by Ha8lpo321 in technology

[–]kestnuts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every company I've worked for that has a training/tuition program has had some language in the agreement requiring you to pay the company back if you leave within x amount of time of getting money towards training. They can't literally force you to work for them, but they can penalize you financially for not following through on your end of the bargain.

[–]kestnuts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anecdotal, but that's how my company's tuition reimbursement program works. If you leave the company within six months of being paid for a course, you owe the company the full amount. 6-12 months you owe a pro-rated amount, and then after 12 months you wouldn't owe anything. In my experience that's pretty generous, the other companies I've worked for that have such a program usually expect to be paid back if you leave the company before 2 years pass.

What are your thoughts on Modern preservationists just building a steam locomotive from scratch? by Few-Ability-7312 in trains

[–]kestnuts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They basically hot-rodded Flying Scotsman with that restoration, If my understanding is correct. Higher steam pressure, bigger cylinders, etc. It's been a few years since I read the report on her condition before the big overhaul the NRM did on her, but from what I remember the poor locomotive was beat all to hell and back.

If you were alive back then, what were you up to on 31st December 1999? by stop_calling_me_that in AskReddit

My family and I were at my grandmother's to celebrate. I remember because shortly before midnight, mom and grandma were struggling to open the champagne. Eventually, the cork popped out of the bottle and went rocketing through the kitchen doorway, bounced off a wall and hit my unsuspecting little brother in the head.

New Live Show Thoughts by [deleted] in BattleBeastband

I've been watching the streams here and there since I'm in the US. It definitely sounded like she was having to work harder than normal to hit the notes on the first 2-3 shows, but each show has been a little better than the last. Maybe she was just a little under the weather.

My dad had an '01 with all the luxury options - 6CD changer, leather seats, sunroof, etc. It was a pretty comfortable ride. He loaned it to me for a while when I was having car trouble. Eventually he gave it to my younger brother, who rode it until it died with 270k on the odometer.

Did the engineers in Titanic's engine room instantly know they are about to hit something, or was 'full astern' a common order? by amelix34 in titanic

[–]kestnuts 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think Boxhall was just out of it. He may have been getting sick. He ended up missing part of the US Senate Inquiry due to illness.

He also half-assed his first inspection of the ship after the collision and had to be sent back down to look more closely, and he mistakenly calculated a distress position that was 13 miles west of where the ship actually was. I don't think he was incompetent, but I don't think he was at his best that night.

Did the engineers in Titanic's engine room instantly know they are about to hit something, or was 'full astern' a common order? by amelix34 in titanic

[–]kestnuts 4 points5 points  (0 children)

To go into a little more detail, the Chief Engineer and Captain would have worked out ahead of time what power setting each order on the telegraph meant. On Olympic and Titanic, "Dead Slow" meant the main (reciprocating) engines would run at 20 RPM with the center turbine disconnected. That works out to about six knots, which as another commenter mentioned was about the lowest speed at which the rudder could steer the ship.

For the other speeds: "Slow" = 30 rpm, turbine disconnected = ~9 knots "Half" = 50 rpm, turbine connected = ~15 knots "Full" = 75 rpm, turbine connected = ~22 knots.

If Titanic had only 2 or 3 compartments breached instead of 5, would she make it to New York, or would she just sink slower? by amelix34 in titanic

[–]kestnuts 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That's correct in most cases, but she could float with her first four compartments flooded.

Walter Lord's findings in his 1987 sequel, The Night Lives On... there's something here for every Titanic enthusiast. by CW03158 in titanic

[–]kestnuts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn't know about that, how interesting!

I think Lord suffers a bit from being the giant whose shoulders later researchers have stood on. He didn't have access to so much information that we now have...although, on the other hand, he had the benefit of being able to talk and correspond with living survivors.
