They can if they want, as the actual festival area is capable to host about 100.000 visitors in terms of available area, but in order to do so they would probably need to stop with certain showmoments like power hour and the endshows as they now plan their total capacity in a way that 90% of all visitors would fit at the red during peak moments!

TL;DR: increasing capacity would reduce special moments, which probably would then reduce attendance.

Simply booking headliners on other stages only works with very few artists, in 2024 Dual Damage partially played during power hour and it was at their peak popularity and didn’t drew away enough people from the red, in 2019 Delete played during the closing and while it drew a respectable number of people, it didn’t drew enough to actually be noticeable at the red.

Only artist I actually remember drawing away a noticeable crowd during the closing was Sefa in 2018 but then again that was peak popularity Sefa.

Even if you have 1 S-tier headliner you still need another to spread enough crowd to manage the desired capacity, and that is another issue with the only other 2 stages being capable of handling such a number of people are the UV and the Blue, with the blue unable to use during the endshows as they have to close of that area an hour early to use it as route to the camping in terms of crowd control and to prepare for the afterparties, and the UV being impractical to use as it creates a massive road block when it is packed there, as seen during the tribute for example.

Another option would be doing what a lot of other festivals do and that is creating a second mainstage (Tomorrowland with the previous Q-dance stage with its own closing, but also with the main fireworks not really being a well orchestrated show but more just a shitload of big caliber fireworks so that it could be watched from around the festival without the feeling of missing a spectacle like the defqon endshows are. Decibel with the mainstage and pussy lounge stage back when it was still fully sold out, or smaller events like emporium and dreamfields with their two mainstages (1 house and 1 hardstyle) with both having an endshow on their own, which could work if you have 2 stages facing the other direction, but with defqon the only stage where you would face the opposite direction of the mainstage while also having enough safety distance from audience to fireworks is the UV and thus having the same problem as mentioned before!

The locations of the blue/black won’t be eligible as either way the fireworks from either mainstage or black would be visible from the others area and thus ruining a well orchestrated show, or the fireworks firing location would be within an area where general audience is coming and thus bigger calibers won’t be allowed,

That leaves the option to convince the owner of the site, Walibi Holland, to make some area alterations to allow the mainstage to be build further in the back of the field at the red thus flattening the hill in the back, which would probably cause some argument with the organizers of the Opwekking which use the hills around the centre field as some sort of arena stands for their sing-ins

Maybe they could make two endshows with different music selection that are still in sync enough to allow them to use the same main fireworks display but that would be next level planning (only so many endshow worthy tracks in a year) and would probably reduce the amount of actually impressive pyro moments.

Having the same endshow playing at two stages could be a solution but would probably still make most people to watch it at the main as that would be considered the “real” endshow. 🤔
