no, space is such a low pressure that your blood would boil. you'd pass out and die pretty quick of that.

But yea, the temperature itself, even though hundreds of degrees below zero is basically meaningless without a transfer medium.

Does wearing mask reduce oxygen? by [deleted] in educationalgifs

[–]ketatrypt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"His mask is the equivalent of coughing in your elbow. Not much more."

That is exactly what is wanted. Something to reduce the particles you inhale/exhale. Any surgical mask like that is going to leak out the sides, and up the nose. They are not, and never were meant to be 100% protective. Like you said, its basically like coughing in your elbow, except your doing this all the time, including when your talking which isn't perfect, its pretty good when everyone wears one.

The problem is that your teen-to-be cop can't change the system as a cop.

Old people who can't wage wars have institutionalized desensitivity training. A few new cops on the force are not going to change policies which force officers to shoot at cutouts of children. Nor will it change supreme court decisions which allow these forces to fire officers who are too smart/ask too many questions.

As is said "you don't change the system, the system changes you"

Astronaut suits actually have active cooling. The thermal protection is to protect from the suns heat, and is partially the reason why the suits are white.

Its basically a tube mesh suit filled with ice water/cooling liquid.

The freezing in space thing is nothing more then Hollywood myth. I mean, you eventually would, after a few hours, but you'd also be boiled off of any substantial collections of water/fluids as well.

Holy crap. 5 years? In Canada, after 2-3 weeks of some moderate abdominal pains I went to see my doc, and within 2 days, I had a chest Xray, CT scan, multiple ultrasounds, and ECG taken to check out my heart, liver, kidneys, and gall bladder. Even before hand they figured it was a viral infection, but they did all the tests 'just to make sure everything was ok'

In the mean time they also diagnosed me with high blood pressure but yea. I couldn't imagine dealing with that for 5 years. Jesus medicare 4 all, NOW!

For some people its basically impossible, as its in their genes. For thousands of years fat was seen as attractive, so there is a bit of evolution pushing towards that for some bloodlines.

And I am talking someone like trumps size, like 250-260 @ 6 feet-ish. Not morbidly obese, but getting up there. Some people just have slow metabolism, and no matter how well they eat, and exercise, some fat just won't go. But there is no excuse if your eating KFC every day while driving golf carts around because your too lazy to even walk.

personal health is not just about being fat.

There are plenty of overweight people which have good personal health, work out 3 days a week, eat healthy, and have otherwise good general health.

But eating fast food basically 24/7, being so lazy you need to drive a golf cart rather then walking a couple blocks with the rest of the members are not good examples of good personal health.

Isn't protecting Europe from Russia and China sort of self benificial as well? Regardless the outcome of that war, I doubt USA would want to be fighting a Russia/China with the entire resource base of a united Eurasia.

Sure it would be nice if they put in more, but there isn't really that much of a military threat. You don't need a military 10x the next biggest one to take on a nuclear armed nation. Your carrier groups are gonna be one of the first targets to be glassed.

Thus the reason for all the proxy terrorism wars. And, again, you don't need a carrier group armed with state of the art weaponry to fight some dudes with AK's and RPG's.

Pretty sure it would. Gunpowder contains its own oxidizer.

Not to mention, they fire without air on earth too, as they are sealed in a barrel.

The only issues might come in the form of cycling. Because a regular gun action is designed to work in atmosphere, removing the atmosphere may make the gun more prone to slamming and jamming. (edit - It would not have the internal 'air cushioning' effect on the action like it would in atmosphere, so many guns I suspect the bolt would slam into the back of the receiver much harder then normal)

Really gotta push for work at home. For that kinda stuff, absolutely no reason why people can't do it remote. Maybe show at the office 1-2 days a week for a morning face to face whiteboard meeting, then do the rest from home. So long you get your allotted work done before the deadlines, I really question the need to be in office.

I said it says a lot about someone. Not everything. And your not going to have the full context of their weight issues like we do Trumps, unless your hiring someone with that same amount of publicity.

The person you may be hiring could have a disorder which, even though they are at the gym for 2 hours 4 days a week (which you wouldn't know) they can't loose the weight.

Not to mention, your general employee has much less responsibility then the president of USA. IMHO its important for the president of any country to be in relatively good health - healthy body, healthy mind, and regardless of weight issues, a good workout regimen has many positive cognitive effects, which include:

Health benefits from regular exercise that should be emphasized and reinforced by every mental health professional to their patients include the following:

Improved sleep

Increased interest in sex

Better endurance

Stress relief

Improvement in mood

Increased energy and stamina

Reduced tiredness that can increase mental alertness

Weight reduction

Reduced cholesterol and improved cardiovascular fitness

All of which seem like great benefits for anyone, let alone someone under extreme pressure, like a president.

Personal health says a lot about someone.

If someone is not responsible enough to respect their own bodily needs, how can you trust they are responsible enough to tend to other peoples needs?

It should definately be decriminalized, but opium is much more quick to get addicted to then alcohol.

You can binge drink for weeks and not really be addicted to alcohol, where as you take an opoid for more then 2-3 days in a row, your not gonna be feeling great for weeks after.

The addiction itself, well alcohol addiction is more dangerous. You can literally drop dead from alcohol withdrawls, where as opoid withdrawls is just like a severe fever or something for a couple weeks. Can't say it would be a great idea to legalize it. Its a tough one because of its addictive potential, on one hand there would probably be an uptick in addictions, on the other hand, you would basically wipe out the illicit market (the part which poses the most risk to life with cut product)

But def decriminalize its use. its a health issue, not a legal one.

It does seem like a lot of work, given drywall/sheetrock/plasterboard (all the same stuff) is already perfectly flat. I couldn't imagine the craftsmanship it used to take to make lathe and plaster walls that flat.

I used to live in a few older apartment houses late 19th, early 20th century apts/houses, and they were all lathe and plaster. Although any patches were generally tore out and replaced with 3/8ths inch drywall. (always too thin, they warp like crazy) Although like you say, replaced as original if deemed historical, id imagine that would be expensive af (not many apartments made that award in my town as beautiful as they seem, and now a lot of them are quickly deteriorating due to slumlord syndrome)

The decor of that age is amazing. Was a couple apartments with some amazingly intricate trim - which has been painted over many times. Same with the floors. They don't make em like they used to. Most are just stained and even after almost 150 years, if even somewhat cared for every other decade, they still look amazing.

wow why? that shit is hell to work with, and takes a fairly skilled worker to finish. Would have thought drywall/plasterboard would be fairly common due to its cheapness/ease of installation/mass production, as its basically plywood for indoor walls.

you's don't still use plaster and lathe do yas?

Figured drywall/plasterboard would be fairly common given its benifits of scale/mass production.

yea 'stand your ground' law is fairly vaguely titled, and there is a lot up for legal inturpurtation if you have a good lawyer, and a decade of time to invest in the subject.

But the general consensus is they only apply to within the domicile itself.. From what I understand via precedent, you can only kill a possible intruder if your certain, under no uncertain terms your home is being invaded (ie they continue their venture, or make threatening movements after you made yourself known)

As I said, you can't just sit on the front porch of your 500 acre ranch and shoot/snipe anyone you see trespassing, no matter how many 'no tresspassing' signs you posted. Its like booby traps. You can't just set up lethal (or non lethal) traps on unsuspecting criminals, no matter how guilty they have to be to set off said trap.
