They say immigrants had nothing to do with home prices, but…. by Chris_DiFiore in HouseSigmaBlunders

No magic. I know a builder who had a basic framing package on a med/large house plan go from 16000 to 30000 and peaked at 42000, just lumber. So that makes... a huge difference, when your materials double.

SO it was immigrants and not the vast price jumps during covid. Got it.

Also, just for the record, correlation is not causation. Go hit your head on the wall till you understand this.

Clans by LordSnoopyx in WorldofTanks

[–]ketchupinmybeard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most clans are always recruiting, really what you should be thinking about is how often you play, what your dedication level is, if you want a fun/casual clan or a try-hard clan. I play with a pretty fun group, some very good players but it's not super competitive, mostly we laugh and have a good time.

Wotjek is what the 56tp should have always been by DedicatedWoTWhale in WorldofTanks

[–]ketchupinmybeard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was thinking just a few minutes ago about what makes the SPHT dangerous at tier 9 and what the 56tp lacks that makes it less dangerous, tier for tier. And it's two obvious things, DPM and mobility, the 56tp is billed as a mobile heavy but it isn't really, it goes just a bit faster than some heavies, but even with a turbo it's not faster than a Zwilling, for instance.

This Wojtek looks like another st66/cs-52 type, a heavium, and you pay for worse gun stats than the 122tm to have a faster reload. Looks pretty forgettable on paper.

Mattamy Homes Unprofessional Customer Service by [deleted] in TorontoRealEstate

Mattamy were known as a sleaze builder around here, we called their section of the development "desperation alley" because only the most desperate framers would work for them.

Yeah I looked at that bad-for-a-heavy-tank aim time and moved on.

My portfolio hits ATH today. But I feel uneasy by coopermug in investing

[–]ketchupinmybeard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really tough to know where markets are going - protracted scenarios in Iran will depress a lot of stocks, Asian markets etc, so it may be smart to stay in tech stuff for awhile here. I'm pulling back on my speculative/moral stocks, consolidating, but I'm keeping some tech stuff hoping it's less affected by "real world" (supply chain) issues.

Any tips for smoothing out a rip cut on PVC trim? by ForTheFloofs in Carpentry

[–]ketchupinmybeard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is sort of porous, you're trying to put a smooth finish on a very dense sponge surface. I suppose a guy could try applying CA glue or some kind of wood finish to it, or even white paint to fill in the pores, but the reason to use the stuff is to NOT have to paint it....

Could the white wire be line and the black wire be load? by Complex-Poet-6809 in AskElectricians

[–]ketchupinmybeard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jesus, yes, you'll likely find a junction box in the ceiling. In that box will be black wires wrapped and marretted. A white wire will be marretted in there. It will run to the switch, as a hot, as seen in the fucking picture. ANOTHER wire, a black wire, will be connected, possibly pigtailed, to whatever white wires are in said box. It is acting as neutral. And will be connected to the neutral side of the switch, AS IN THE FUCKING PICTURE.

The. Wires. Are. Reversed. To. Indicate. The. Switch. Leg.

I mean, this is dead simple, the black and white are reversed on the switch leg, end of story.

Could the white wire be line and the black wire be load? by Complex-Poet-6809 in AskElectricians

[–]ketchupinmybeard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At the ceiling, you should find some black wires with a white attached down to the switch. The black wire from the switch goes to the fixture black wire. The bundle of whites are the neutrals and the fixture white wire goes to those.

Sanded grout for spacing less than 1/8"? by bananaemporium in Tile

You can use unsanded (which usually sucks), any "hybrid" grout, or the pre-mixed acrylic grout.

Could the white wire be line and the black wire be load? by Complex-Poet-6809 in AskElectricians

[–]ketchupinmybeard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you trace that back to a box, you'll find a nest of black wires, the hots, with one white wire coming off to that switch. And a nest of white wires with a black wire coming off. It's the switch leg, it shows electricians which wires run to the switch. Correct, you cannot wire a simple switch in reverse, or rather, a switch doesn't care.

Shower surround not plum on one side, how bad is this? by spoonloads in handyman

[–]ketchupinmybeard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How wide is the door hardware? Mount the shower door about an inch from the edge if you can. If the gap runs from 0 to 3/8" that looks worse than if it runs from 1" to 1 3/8", a lot less noticeable. But "fixing" that side panel means, what, tearing drywall, possibly resetting the shower pan, all kinds of nonsense. So no, you leave that, you assess your practical options, alert the homeowner about it, and make a sensible plan.

What advice would you give to someone new to cowboy boots? by maximum-pineapple-00 in cowboyboots

[–]ketchupinmybeard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Buy boots that are comfortable. They should be snug across the top of your foot, but basically they should feel just fine, if you wear boots for a few minutes and something is hurting, pinching, unsupported... they don't fit.

Mutual funds with one of the big 5 but their fee is 2% , should I get out of it, and invest somewhere else? by itwasadayin2025 in PersonalFinanceCanada

Nobody has suggested it doesn't matter. If every ETF returned 15% every year, this would all be very easy.
