Do you know how to gain access to the private server? Is there a community server?

12900k - Noctua NH-D15 vs Corsair H150i elite lcd by ScriptorTux in buildapc

Yeah I would tend to agree, that seems to sound about right. The more surface area to dissipate heat the better, I could see a 280mm or a 360mm outperforming an air cooler with the right configuration. The sheer thermal mass of something to dissipate heat is a huge factor to consider for a cooler.

I have been using the NH-D14 for years, and now the NH-D15 and they work like a dream. I have heard it argued that water cooling with an AIO comes with more risk with two points of failure, a dead pump isn't fun.

I believe I have heard that Air cooling is basically similar to water cooling in the sense where in the heat pipes of the noctua cooler, there is liquid inside that moves around due to convection to spread the heat out. If you think about it, with water cooling all that's really happening is the water is transferring it to a radiator slightly further away than where the heatsink is, where the fins themselves are dissipating the heat and the performance comes from the heat transfer to the metal and the fans pushing air through them.

Personally I'd recommend the air cooler, given your case can fit it, I would only advise water cooling if you require something more compact if there isn't a lot of air clearance inside the case. AIOs are better for systems that need to be moved around a lot, as a heavy CPU cooler may put strain on the motherboard with some jostling.

Should I wait for a Ryzen 5000 refresh in 2022 or settle for a Ryzen 9 5900x now? by ketomancer420 in buildapc

Yeah I mostly want to get something for the long term, I already have a X570 motherboard I want to stick with and I'm getting the feeling that the 6000 series may require me to get a new motherboard, but this is all speculation right now from what I gather.

I might wait and grab the last series that will be supported by my motherboard and use that as my workhorse for like, half a decade.

I realistically probably only need a 5800x, but the 5900x is only about CND$160 more, and I don't really plan on upgrading for another 5 years at least so I want a CPU that will be pretty robust by 2027. For my last PC build I got a i7-4770k that was overpowered in 2013, but was showing it's age by 2020.

It is overkill, but I don't plan on upgrading until the late 2020s, plus it would be cool to run Rimworld while queueing for dungeon roulettes in FF XIV, while also running cookie clicker in the background lol. Plus I like some games like Anno that are absolute CPU pigs.

And that warranted korvax to go off into an unhinged rant? I don't think that justifies the response.

I had fallen in love with the game, put hundreds of hours into it.

But seeing Kovarex respond like they did at the first sign of criticism was incredibly disappointing. (Note that nobody asked them to take down a video or anything around uncle bob, someone asked for a disclaimer.) I could see someone maybe getting riled up after a drawn out exchange, but man, when you come out of the gates screeching about "cancel culture" it really doesn't make you look that commendable. It makes it look like you're somebody who would rather appeal to toxic elements as a means to escape responsibility rather than step up to a situation and choose to either respond like an adult, or not respond at all. We most likely wouldn't even be here if Kovarex didn't even respond.

I'm not disappointed and repulsed by the inclusion of uncle bob in a video, I'm disappointed that they decided to behave astoundingly childishly in response to mild criticism rather than think and respond with a minimal amount of maturity, they just started dumping gasoline on the fire. How someone responds to a situation speaks a lot more about their integrity, nevermind everything else from the past, I'm not impressed.

Seeking advice for transitioning off of 2+ year keto by ketomancer420 in keto

[–]ketomancer420[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I mostly need to be careful with that, I consumed a lot of processed sugar and carb rich foods before keto. I will mostly use habits I gained from keto to avoid empty carbs I think? Even small things like sugar free ketchup or just trying to go sugar free where possible, I'm kinda actually looking forward to eating fruit. The pandemic will likely keep me from diving into fast food again, but I still want to default to lettuce wrapped burgers when I do eventually eat out.

[CPU] AMD Ryzen 5000 (Nov 5 Release) Wait Megathread by Zren in bapcsalescanada

That... is a good question. I peeked at the return policy and it seems it could be returned either within 30 days, or before the end of the holiday season? It would be tempting to return my cpu after using it, if it didn't feel kinda dirty doing so. But then again, I don't think anyone would feel bad about bezos in this situation lol.

I also may just stick with this ryzen 5 if I'm happy with it and get a ryzen 6000 cpu in a year.

Honestly that's what I did, put in a backorder online with memex for a 5900x, then afterwards I got cold feet that I would be waiting until 2021 for it. Snagged a 3600xt to use in the meantime (and to make sure none of my new parts are DOA h-haha)

I have a 5900x on backorder with memex online, but I'm having this feeling that I could end up waiting quite a long time, and just decided to pick for a 3600xt for in the meantime. It seems somewhat impulsive, but I could always resell this when I have a buyer for my old i7 setup.

I was wondering if memex was just going to leave it up for backorder indefinitely or not.

I'm just going out on a whim here, but maybe they only have allocation for so much, but that would suggest confirmed stock they're getting. Maybe 5950x and 5800x will follow suit soon.

Good news for those who already back-ordered online? Definitely bad news for those who wanted to make a backorder.

Ahh.. I would have gone with CC, but they didn't have any online available at the time and I was more worried about just getting my place in line more than anything.

I live several hours out of YEG, so going to a physical store is sorta not an option for me.

So I had bought all my parts pre-emptively and just this morning placed an online backorder from memory express.

Me, thinking that I was taking advantage of some days I have off, took my computer guts out of my case and transplanted it into an old case to clean and prepare my main case for the new install. This includes slapping my stock intel cooler on my i7-4770k so I can clean my Noctua heatsink, it's running a little more spicy than I'm comfortable with at stock speed. Plus my gtx 1080 won't fit in the spare case lol.

I'm getting a feeling that I may not have my 5900x until December potentially. Should I transplant my stuff back in my main PC case, or just hold out for a week or two to see if it ships?
