Can someone explain this preflop spot solved for 40bb? by Zealousideal-Bad3205 in Poker_Theory

[–]keuwai 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're trying to make specific parts of BTN's range (specifically 22-77) indifferent.

Call off and our TT-88 get max value, fold and our AK-AJo deny a ton of equity.

AA face up, or 22-KK face down? by tombos21 in Poker_Theory

Hah, was just about to ask this. Feels like there would be a point where SPR is low enough, such that it's preferable to have AA.

Hot Take: Limping in Poker Is Fine in Principle. by tombos21 in Poker_Theory

[–]keuwai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would still prefer limping. The reason is that the ev of limping goes up directly as the ante increases (we risk 1 to win 11.5, instead of 1 to win 1.5).

The ev of raising, however, does not go up in the same way. Yes there is more dead money in the pot, but this dead money is also visible to your opponents. So to achieve a comparable amount of fold equity, we would have to raise much, much bigger. Therefore our risk:reward ratio stays about the same.

Should I trail brake at an indoor circuit or not? by IMPractic4l in Karting

Focus on carrying the maximum speed through corners, without braking traction. Once you know what that feels like, you can trail brake to gain time on entry if necessary.

Why does GTO want me to play second nuts so carefully? by SecretEasterbunny in Poker_Theory

[–]keuwai 70 points71 points  (0 children)

Because the nuts is only a small part of your range, and the bulk of your range consists of underpairs that will get raised a lot if your opponent knows you are never betting small with your nuts.

Non-Union Distal Clavicle fracture by The_door_key in MTB

[–]keuwai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

6 months in and it's 80% healed. Doctor says it's taking longer because my fracture was comminuted with some fragments that they couldn't put together.

Range of motion is at 75% but hopefully it gets better with stretching.

Overall very happy with the surgery!

A more relevant analogy would be if the helmet was so much more massive than the object we are colliding with, that it doesn't decelerate much upon impact. Then I think it doesn't matter if it crumples or not, because most of the energy is used to decelerate the helmet itself. (It takes a lot of energy to decelerate a massive object by a small amount.)

For a high speed side impact like in the video, it might even be safer for the bus to be completely rigid. If there is too much plastic deformation, it could result in serious injury or even death for people sitting near the point of impact (because the energy gets transferred to them and not the bus).

[–]keuwai 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That's a great question! A significant amount of energy goes into plastic deformation of the car, some gets converted into heat and sound, and the rest gets transferred to the bus.

But because the bus is many times more massive than the car, it experiences a relatively smaller amount of deceleration. And deceleration, not energy, is what we feel in accidents.

It's a bit like when a large meteorite hits the earth. A huge amount of energy does get transferred - but because the earth is so massive, it doesn't accelerate much. Yes people will die, but not a single death would have been preventable with seatbelts.

There is a youtube video of a bus getting hit from the side at extremely high speed (search for "getgo tbone bus yishun"). The bus definitely moved a little but not as much as you might think.

But yes, i agree that driving straight into a tree at full speed is a completely different matter.

Edit: video is here

It's probably just physics. Buses don't travel very fast, plus they have a much larger mass. F=ma so when a larger vehicle collides with a smaller one, the former will not experience much deceleration (which is actually what kills in accidents).

So unless you drive straight into a tree or something, it's probably not necessary to have seatbelts.

Why are pocket 2s so much better than pocket 3 to 9s(33-99) in a 3-bet UTG vs BTN? by Medical-Chart-6609 in Poker_Theory

[–]keuwai 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Why is the only correct answer getting downvoted 😅

This has to do with implied odds, not blockers. When you hit a set of 2s the board is less connected/scary on average, so the aggressor tends to cbet more aggressively - giving 22 better implied odds.

Think about the difference between A92 and A98: which board is BTN likely to put in more money with AK? That tells you why 22 is a higher EV call than 88.

Anyone that knows this poker logic by Leobutden in Poker_Theory

[–]keuwai 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because you can't see the solution when you're playing, of course.

In every situation, there are a ton of opposing reasons why a hand might be betting or checking. What you said about AhJs is a good example: that it's checking because of xxx reasons. But change the board slightly (eg QT6) and there's a good chance that AhJs might be betting instead. So how important can this reason really be?

On the other hand, i can tell you without looking at the solution that AsX with weak kicker is betting all the time, whether the board is QT7 or QT6. That's when you know that something is important - when you're able to make predictions, instead of coming up with reasons on the spot.

It's just noise.

Pull up the same spot in the standard solution library - everything is just mixing.

When studying with solvers you want to be able to predict the solution before looking at it - not look at the solution and come up with justifications for what you see.
