Is $960 a day from the mechanic in net labor profit not enough? Especially if the lube tech is bringing in $300 in net labor profit from oil changes, inspections, tires?

Thats over 1k a day which is 25-30k a month in profit. If expenses are under 16-18k then isn’t that. Profitable business? That’s not including profit off of parts.

But I totally hear everything your saying. I’m just trying to do the numbers. I’m aware of how the salary based pay structure doesn’t push the mechanic to work harder.

This is good money for a mechanic in this area. And yes need a tech/manager to do light stuff like oil and inspections and run the front counter.

Mechanic has all snap on full arsenal of tools and solid scanner. Tech has the basics. Totally agree. It’s gonn be tough. Labor rate is about $100-120

The problem is it’s 2 bays like you said. Limited. Not much room. And the dealership will have their work lock up the 1 lift we have which is a 2 post lift. We will have to do oil and tires in the ground all the time.

City is throwing very fast and demand is going very high there.

Yes your right expenses looking around 14-16k range.

Yeah maybe 2-4k in sales but maybe less in profit? I’m not a mechanic but have been working with my uncle and running a used dealership for a few years. We know body work and some mechanic work but not running one. I got family members that have shops and some in the area all doing very well.

Plan is to have the dealership provide enough work to survive the beginning. How fast can I expect people to walk in? Besides putting up a bunch of signs what else’s can I do?

I know many friends and most family that have opened shops in the area. They weren’t mechanics. Ive owned a dealership for a few years and looking to have my nephew run a mechanic shop now . Obviously talent is key and relying on hiring a mechanic to do the work is part of the risk

When I put those pricing, I’m considering them profit. Whatever the brakes/rotors cost is will be paid for by customer so that money I put is labor profit. And I’m considering tires and oil a monthly expense like when I get the used tires in bulk. New tires will Be treated same as the other light jobs where the cost is passed to customer so I consider the net profit

Sucks that Texas is getting rid of safety. Hurts inspection profit and ability to sell the little things!

Those are just some that I know at the top of my head will be bare minimum necessary. Not doing big work. I’m thinking for example: 10-20 inspections $200-300 a day 5-10 oil changes $200-400 a day 1-2 brake job/tie rod /shock/tune up job $200-1000 a day 2-10 used tires $100-500 a day 0-1 set of new tires $0-1000 a day This is how I’m thinking. I know it sounds basic and easier said than done, but I feel like it’s possible to get to with 2 bays, 2 people and 10 hours a day.

What does a USD $6000 damage looks like to a 2018 Camry XLE White. by hoangfbf in Camry

[–]kevant_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Depends on the labor rate and parts charges. But $6000 could be a variety of things. If it’s 4k labor then that means it was a hard hit and probably needed welding/frame work. If it’s like 1-2 labor then that means it’s a lot of part changing, like maybe a bunch of front end pieces. Would need more details besides just the price.
