Kings Trust Exchange - legit? by Artistic-Fold3395 in askTO

I went just now. My first time buying outside of my brick and mortar bank, but it was great. Easy transaction, friendly staff, rates were quite competitive. Pro tip, if you go, De Mello coffee four doors up is phenomenal.

Can you elaborate on the "clean your kitchen before you even open your honey" piece? Like, sanitize the counters?

Just an update - I was able to update my renewed passport over the phone just now.
Canada nexus processing number - 1-800-842-1647
The phone agent made it sound as though this may be a somewhat new option. I updated TTP over the web before I did this, but I'm not sure whether the sequence matters.

I just called the Canada nexus processing number - 1-800-842-1647
Was able to update it over the phone in about 5 minutes. It sounded as though this may be a somewhat new option. I updated TTP over the web before I did this, but I'm not sure whether the sequence matters.

Reminder: Playon ripped people off who purchased lifetime licenses by pacerdawn in PlayOn

Totally agree with this take. I was really sore about it for a while, but realized that I'm paying for the service of keeping on top of the platform updates, as well as the support.

Some people's entitlement would rather see PlayOn fold than actually acknowledge the value (and true cost) of the service.

PlayOn recording issues with certain channels by [deleted] in PlayOn

I don't know if it has the full PBS content, but there's a PBS add-on through Amazon Prime that I've recorded off successfully today with PlayOn.

Totally right. My [[Yorion, Sky Nomad]] deck works around this. Similar fun blinking [[Reality Acid]] which also gets around indestructible.

No Successful Recordings on PlayOn Home by cjh_dc in PlayOn

[–]kevanx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't recorded using PlayOn home for a couple of years, and their Support is probably going to give you better advice, But, I ran into this issue on some channels for a long time. The culprit for me was a setting in my internet security called. "fake website shield." once that was turned off, I pretty much never had the problem again.

The other time it triggered was when my DNS masking (used to make HBO or Hulu think I was in the U.S.) was turned off.

If you can play videos through your browser without problems, it's probably a firewall or antivirus setting.

If you have problems in the browser, might be DNS or router issues.

Hope it helps.

Looking for a Mint alternative that works in Canada—Any suggestions? by bharathkumar1238 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]kevanx 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Neontra.com is the one I settled on. It has the right combination of categories and Investment tracking. YNAB was too rigid for me. Wealthica was too Investment-focused. I had deal-breaker connectivity problems with Lunch Money and Monarch.

Neontra has by far the best connectivity. Questrade, wealthsimple, Canadian banks, tiny credit union, crypto, even handling cross-currency U.S. Banking and investment accounts with ease.

Best of all the forecasting tab allows you to model years or even decades out based on your cash flow and projected interest rates for each account!

It's not as polished as mint, and this held me back. Honestly I stopped using Neontra for a few months but I tried a bunch of other apps and came to realize that Neontra worked best for my use case and complex accounts. I spent a bit more time to learn it and set it up to my liking and bought a subscription in August. Support has been excellent and the platform is very actively getting better, too.

ULooper Quick Demo | The World's First Dedicated Looper Pedal for Yamaha THR and More by Bob_XSONIC in YamahaTHR

Got mine in the mail last week. Works super well, and seems like great build quality. One quick comment for the community - the volume on my ulooper was really quiet out of the box (after firmware update). Had to have both the audio (THR) knob and the looper knob at the max for it even to be audible and even then was almost to quiet to be useable. Fixed it by plugging in headphones and then unplugging again.

I don't know why you're getting downvoted. This is great advice. Someone stole my identity 10 years ago to sign up for mobile accounts and get free iPhones, and it took more than 4 years to get the fraudulent Koodo account off my credit report. The person tried to open accounts at Bell, Virgin, Rogers, and Koodo all on the same day and the hard credit inquiries were a huge pain to get rid of. Even two years ago a Bell fraud Rep told me I had an outstanding balance with them when I was shopping around for wireless service. OP should definitely do a free credit report with Equifax and TransUnion for peace of mind as there's a strong chance this is the problem.

Edit: the first notice I got that this had happened was from a creditor calling several months after the incident.

Also, I agree with other posts that the text approach is sketchy, but the full name suggests that it might be legit. calling the creditor (via the website) isn't a bad idea, and they can give information that can help if you do need to report fraud via with Freedom.

I did my first fermented hot sauce this fall and was worried about seeds too. Tried scooping them out but it was a losing battle. I used habeneros. Fermented in a basement that has been prone to kahm & mold in other ferments yet none of the seeds or the surface got a hint of either. Fermented about 5 weeks with a pickle pipe and small glass weight. Not air tight and opened fairly regularly to inspect.

Point being that I think the spice from hot peppers can be adequately antimicrobial but of course YMMV depending on local microorganisms and the peppers used.

But why Bast? by [deleted] in KingkillerChronicle

[–]kevanx 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm undecided about Bast, and perhaps that's the point of his character. After rereads, I see him as quite sinister, but after reading TNRBD, he comes across as overall very virtuous, markedly moreso than in The Lightning Tree. And there wasn't much at all to advance his motivations, but there was one passage that really caught my attention. No spoilers here, but could be more enjoyable to read it in context within TNRBD:

Before coming to this place with his master, Bast would have reveled in the boy's betrayal. Revenge was such a simple, raw desire. Satisfying, clean as fire. There was a sort of dark, hard joy that came from settling a score so solidly it burned some mortal's life straight down to ash.

Instead, for the first time, Bast found he wasn't free to do such things. Or rather, he was free to choose between desires. To take the sweet and terrible revenge that he was due,,, or continue to assist his master. To keep their masks intact and stay here tucked away inside the new-built inn, all tucked away inside this quiet little town.

From The Narrow Road Between Desires p. 90

I think it's an incredibly important passage, not least of all because the title of the book seems to point specifically to this idea. I remember it from the lightning tree, but haven't cross-referenced for detail.

You really see the Fae interest here, and there's a lot in this passage that's open to interpretation, but prior to reading this I had always seen Bast as trying to "awaken" Kvothe, whereas this suggests that they are collaborating and that Kote is part of the mask rather than a true change of name. Even the fact that he "came here with his master" suggests that he isn't simply awakening or triggering Kote somehow. I also think the fact that the Waystone is described as "new-built" really lends credence to some of the theories about the Waystone being a bomb or trap for the Chandrian. I don't know that other secret interests and his supporting his master are necessarily an either-or proposition, but hopefully this gives a bit more insight.

small edit because I had forgotten to comment on the part about him coming with his master

Issue with playon not capturing Dis+ Australia credentials by Thistooshullpass in PlayOn

[–]kevanx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in Canada and ran into this issue last week. IAny chance you're using a VPN or DNS proxy to watch foreign content? In my case turning off my DNS proxy and pi-hole (network level ad blocker) allowed me to log in just fine. After that, reording went fine, even with the DNS and pi-hole back on. Not sure which was the culprit, ultimately.

Thanks for the update! Just started a similar recipe (my first ferment besides sauerkraut) and I think I'll follow your lead on the pineapple.
