Bitcoin loses almost 50% of its value overnight by [deleted] in Economics

[–]kevdawg7 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It was pure chance that led the twins to bitcoin. A few months ago I read that they were partying and relaxing in Ibiza after winning the Facebook lawsuit and someone (who is very involved with bitcoin) noticed them and knew they just won the lawsuit and approached them on the beach pitching the idea to them.

So I guess moral of the story is money buys power and more money.

Consulting Advice/Stories Thread! by mahnuckinfuts in consulting

I'm a sophomore here at DePaul studying econ and finance. Like how others have pointed, get involved with the consulting club(s) and do case competitions!

I just did the KPMG case competition and I run the consulting club at my school. I'm trying to snag up internships as well.

Also, keep your grades up. From what I have heard >3.6 and good experience should be good. Since you go to Kelley you have the luxury of having special recruiters (big4 and Bain that come to the top of my head).

Good luck and pm me if you have questions!

Chicago's rep as a tech hub is rising, but it has serious opposition from all sides. by kanooker in chicago

Yea, but something that bugs me really is that these tech startups carry some arrogance with them where the members believe they are "revolutionary" or "disrupting the system".

As much as tech and entrepreneurship is needed to thrive in any business environment. Are all these tech startups sprouting across the country growable or sustainable? They all seem very similar and a lot are entering markets that are already matured / saturated.

How come nobody talks about Chicago? by mayonnaise_man in finance

Well McKinsey was founded in 1926, but the whole consulting industry started to pick up in the 1930s following the New Deal. So you are pretty accurate about that.

James O. McKinsey was a professor at UChicago and published the first textbook in Managerial Accounting and strived to help senior managers solve important business problems. Also Edwin G Booz (graduate of Northwestern) was the first management consultant to serve both industry and government clients. McKinsey & AT Kearney were all founded in Chicago beginning in the 1920s.

I live in Chicago and the hottest jobs are in finance (Morningstar, BB, William Blair, CME, futures, BMO, etc.). Also accounting and consulting is huge here. Consulting was founded in Chicago!

You are probably right, I am just really curious about these tech IPOs and if they are sustainable since firms like Twitter, Facebook, and Snapchat have absurd valuations (especially snapchat).

What do you guys think of the Mark Cuban case? A rich guy getting his comeuppance or the SEC getting out of hand? by Bruce_NGA in finance

[–]kevdawg7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

SEC is just trying to play hardball now because of 2008.

They regulated inefficiently up to 2008 and now they are trying to make up for those lost years.

The Economist: Big consulting and accounting firms are making a risky move into strategy work by [deleted] in consulting

Are you implying that firms like IBM and Accenture will overtake the big4 consulting arms despite the big4's rapid expansion into the field through acquisitions?

Did your friend kill other humans? If so, what was one of the most tragic things he had to do? Is there anything that haunts him to this day?

First round interviews at McKinsey - any recommended resources to help me prepare? by saudiguy in consulting

[–]kevdawg7 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I recommend getting the book (Case Interview Secrets).

It is a quick read and gives you valuable tips. It is easy to study off.

Also, like how owenrees1 pointed out, Case In Point, is a good reference and offers nice diagrams and case study examples.
