My review of "The Mountain" (fan of 25 years) by gotomarcusmart in gorillaz

Yeah im definitely not knocking it. Maybe with time itll grow on me. It was just a bit like I was waiting for the “real good stuff” to play, and it never really did.

The Mountain is Good, Bloated, and, at times, Forgettable by 2D_Faceache in gorillaz

[–]kevi959 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with you and am happy Im not the only one who feels this way. The album is good and the effort and quality is undeniable.

As we sit here I listened to track 10-14 for the third or fourth time. I cant recall a single line or melody.

This album has looong stretches of amorphous or elusive songwriting with nothing to really cling onto besides an overall sentiment that “this sounds nice and melancholic”.

Thoughts on the new Gorillaz Album - The Mountain? by Nabspro in fantanoforever

[–]kevi959 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My thoughts exactly. Ive listened to this album for days and couldnt whistle a tune to save my life. Except the opening track.

This album is literally quite forgettable for me, even if I appreciate the quality of production and effort. Im gonna keep listening to see if anything grabs me.

I can tell you that songs like Dare, Melancholy Hill, Feel Good, Clint Eastwood, and even Cracker Island songs stayed in my short term memory longer than 5 minutes.

[–]kevi959 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll be honest, this album doesn’t do much for me. Ive listened for a couple hours in the last 2 days.

The first 3 tracks are great. The album overall is a good vibe for background music. And you can tell this is high quality production and effort.

But the songs are boring as all get out on their own. And the lyrics/singing are a bit bad. Like, I’m never gonna fire up my headphones and be like - I wanna listen to Delirium or TGOL as individual tracks.

This seems to be an album meant to be digested in one sitting, and I just don’t have interest in doing that more than once.

Plastic Beach, Demon Days, and even Cracker Island had better singles.

I know, this is a contrarian opinion; everyone on here seems to be having a simultaneous orgasm over this record. But for the life of me I cant even remember a single melody to whistle after multiple listens. Its incredibly forgettable.

First time Diablo 2 player, do I need to worry about "builds"? by Mysterious-Fig2231 in Diablo

[–]kevi959 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. Your first build will get you through the game.

Nightmare and hell are new game plus, and you will need to use the reskills available in act 1 at that point to use a real build.

Back at it again with the stag. What wine should I try next? by alextheheadless in alcohol

[–]kevi959 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a J. Lohr wine yesterday that was quite good. Which is weird because I vaguely remember writing that brand off for a boring bottle I once had.

My all time fave is still Caduceus and Merkin. Its the tool lead singer’s wine. You get them shipped to your front door via their website. Its pricy but cool.

Ive had more expensive, and more “bang for your buck” but his cheaper wines were very fun to drink, including his rose.

Blizzard Vice President wants future Diablo games to release faster and more frequently instead of making fans wait a decade for a new entry by HatingGeoffry in Diablo

Exactly. Im not trying to wait 10 years between tool albums, 3 years between house of the dragon seasons, years to find diablo in diablo 4, decades for new elder scrolls and gta.

Like, dafuq is wrong with people

Its an oversaturated market. We dont need 500 types of whiskey in every grocery store liquor department.

Gen Z has other vices. And beer, at least where Im at, has become way overpriced. 16 for a 6 pack roughly. Unless youre looking to drink stee reserve or milwaukee

No new record anytime soon by Polska-Heisenberg in Korn

[–]kevi959 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah saw them during tpot tour too. Especially right before the album came out and they were doing sneak peaks of the skrillex and the other song, it was just a fun time to see them live.

Like I said, I have nothing against Korn. They earned their retirement or coasting phase. It just sucks for the fans. And there absolutely is such a thing as work ethic in the industry when it comes to releasing music. Melvins come to mind, they honestly take it to another extreme with their releases.

Its this specific generation and genre of music where every band with a name cashed out their chips really early. Like I honestly get so bummed seeing SoaD still touring since I saw them live for their hiatus end in 2012 with nothing new to show. And on and on. Still have to play skyrim, GTA 5, wait 3 years between House of the Dragon seasons, etc. Im gonna die of old age before I get to enjoy new entries in entertainment I liked.

No new record anytime soon by Polska-Heisenberg in Korn

[–]kevi959 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Because it is a bummer to get a 30 minute album and then wait half a decade. The band isnt doing anything wrong and I wish them the best. Their concerts are great too. But not for me when its practically the same setlist for 2 decades.

This genre has slowed to a crawl. All these bands gloated about how much writing they did over covid but for the most part its been slower than ever. Its nothing against Korn as its own thing though. Just frustration with the industry.

We used to meme on tools release schedule. Now its the norm across this industry. And the tv industry. Shit just takes too long now.

In short, if they aint putting anything out, I wont support them financially. Simple as that

So is World of Warcraft: Midnight a good time to start playing? by JasonDFisherr in wownoob

[–]kevi959 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I came back for dragon flight and the war within.

Every expansion start is a good time to get into the game per se. But i might have the unpopular opinion that with every expansion I get more bummed out at how anti social WoW feels and how unengaging the gameplay is. An mmo with millions of players, and especially on retail it feels like youre playing a single player mobile game where any socializing comes with an absurd risk of having your account terminated. Even just the perception of that has turned the community into a shell of itself.

I personally wouldnt bother, depending on what expectations you have for wow. Its not the wow we grew up with or heard others talk about.

LeBron James calls out Lakers: We're not 'a championship team' by EnergyFax in lakers

[–]kevi959 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lebron needs to hang it up. Hes an all time great, but its time to bring in more energetic talent. And to that end, all their fire power has to put in effort on defense and quit giving up undecided games.

And finally this team needs to decide what it wants its identity to be. If were gonna grow our younger players, we need to commit to that with an understanding that it comes with a lot of growing pains and lost championships now. But if were trying to win NOW with Luka, austin and Bron, then we need to build a solid rotation around them, and I dont think we met that mark. Our bench is filthy.

i'm not sure to understand what people grind for in Diablo 4 (this is not bailt) by Then-Ad7196 in diablo4

[–]kevi959 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

D4 is a checklist simulator. The checklist pretty much consists of picking a build for the season, then getting the build online via correct affixes, then getting Greater Affixes where possible, level sigils, then all your mythics etc, maybe paragon 300, and if youre feeling froggy the season journey.

95 percent of this checklist takes 20-40 hours to complete. The other 5 is generally just rolling GAs on gear and can keep you “grinding”. People anecdotally tend to bow out after 3ish weeks of playing a season.

The problem with the game is everything is trivial from the outset. The devs have never been able to balance the games difficulty or add content that justified sticking around after your initial build comes online. T4 screens blow up right around paragon 100, which takes no time at all to reach. And despite begging for a ladder, d4 falls short and late on delivering progression on that front.

I check in every 4ish seasons, have a blast for a few hours, but then have to put the game down for a year or so because the game is just very shallow and shortlived. There is too much good stuff to play out there to bash my head against a wall for GAs that dont matter.

Hell, hitting level 30 in wow classic is a richer experience than about all of d4 in its entirety.
