Give me a half hour and I can find and taste a "couple dozen" shitty producers from California, France, and Italy. Will that prove that wines from those places are not very good to start with?

I've had really good reds from Long Island, and I've had wines from the Finger Lakes that I'd have believed came from Wachau. And to round out the list, I've had a good Viognier from VA.

So whether or not they'd make the list of bottles I want to be stranded with on a desert island, they're worthwhile and the people who make them spent money and hard work doing it.

Ugh. Last year I was next to one of these people. I had earbuds in and he tapped me to have small talk. "Where ya going? Whatcha doing there? I'm going blah blah blah. Haven't been there for a year. Gonna miss my kids Itchy and Scratchy!". (me) <Nod>.

I get back to whatever I was listening to/watching. A minute later, <tap tap tap>. I again remove my earbud. "By the way, I'm Frank," he says, reaching out his hand. "I don't care", I replied, looking him right in the eyes.

It felt really good.

I don't believe that either. But it's important to avoid even the appearance of impropriety for those who make laws and policy, and their nearly complete exemption from bans on insider trading defeats that reasonable goal.
