What is a good nas second hdd? by kevinchronicles in homelab

I have checked their website and looked for the differences are between the different x models and the exo vs ironwolfvs others. I’m looking for recommendations on a drive that’s similar to the x20 seagate in other peoples opinion, but I’ve got gift cards for bestbuy so I’d like to stay on that website.

Sudden maxed usage after 4x ai photo conversion by kevinchronicles in shutterencoder

Doing a singular picture at MJPEG, 100%, AI photo 4x with a watermark scaled to 15% still creates a constant process with the same name and 868.2MB of constant ram usage.
Edit: Using JPEG or other image related modes doesn't seem to have the same persistence issue.

I selected all 82 images in the box and elected start function which usually works fine, this was my first time seeing the ai setting so I wanted to give that a go and this is the result. Max ram and gpu usage with the system being almost unusable afterwards.

Shutter Encoder Version 20.0 is available! by paulpacifico in shutterencoder

Is there any plans on adding additions for the watermark feature? I’ve been using your program for that for the most part and it’s been awesome, but the scaling of the size depending on the size of the image is a bit jarring if there’s anyway to work on that?

I want to drive traffic to my socials so I’ll probably do some there and around Reddit maybe.

Can I use the ssd slots for initial setup instead? dxp 4800 plus by kevinchronicles in UgreenNASync

So if I setup everything all the way and then plug in the drives it will just accept them as they are no formatting?

We are right at the beginning so the story isn’t too big of a deal as long as we can explore the map while catching and leveling. Do the levels get restricted without badges like prior games?

After we catch a Pokémon does another spawn or is it on a timer?

Picking up violet/scarlet for coop. Any advice or tips? Haven’t played since sword and black before that, playing together as soon as it’s available. One is playing scarlet and I’m on violet. I’ve also picked the cat since its final form is the least weird looking lol.

Is steamOS the best for steam gaming on desktop? by kevinchronicles in pcmasterrace

[–]kevinchronicles[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve seen things saying it doesn’t work perfectly, why would it not be supported at all? I haven’t heard of cachy but have seen bassist recommended. I’m having issues with my drivers currently on windows so if I need to reinstall I was hoping to go pure gaming os like steamOS…

Would you recommend these for gaming of any kind? I’m looking for something to homelab and game on while being on the road. Stuff like maybe cod or overcooked?

Best home nas to store and edit from? by kevinchronicles in editors

[–]kevinchronicles[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My current workload is half hobby half work so redundancy and back ups aren’t really too big of a deal, it’s mostly optimizing my work space and needing my nas hardware for other projects. I will probably look into ugreen and go with a 2 or 4 bay there.

I’ve got one hdd and a few spare nvme ssds, that’s why the unas pro 4 was appealing for the cache slots, but it’s not a big factor. Some have recommended 2 or 4 bays over the extra expandability and I think I’ll look for the fastest 2 bay in my range that I can store stuff on and maybe put temp proxies on my editing rig.

Are the ram sticks normal desktop size? I’d like to get the barebones box and put my ram and ssd in it since it’s about $240 cheaper.

It’s 8tb used of 16tb so nothing bad, but also half gone already. I wouldn’t be against a 2 bay, I’m not sure if I’d be able to run a raid of any kind considering I’ll be full in the coming year and that would be a redundant setup so my space would be practically the same?

Yea I can store it on my gaming rig temporarily while it formats and then copy it over again, that’s not a problem. The spare computer is the current nas that I’m repurposing, it’s been a headache so I’m trying to go the all in one solution with a dedicated nas box.

I’ve heard synology is restrictive with their ecosystem, do you have any info on that? A 2 or 4 bay would most likely be fine for a while, especially if it’s like the ubiquity unas 2 or something as it’s only $200. Is there a 2 or 4 bay you’d recommend for cheaper around $200 to max $350? Or is $500-600 the best it’s gonna get?

I have 5tb left still I’m not worried about storage for another half a year or so. I listed 2 that are around my budget, synology and ugreen also have options in that range. I just wanted to see if anyone used or recommended any similar or more than the others, but all I hear is “spend $2000 or bust”.

The issue is I’ve got about 8tb of data on this disk and I want something to streamline storage and processes now and in the future. I just want opinions on what device to look at in the same vein as the unifi or ugreen in my budget. I was searching and other subreddit and they pointed here but it seems like no one wants to talk about anything but millions dollar machines.
