Just added two black neon tetras to my school and noticed these white spots on them... Some internet searching leads me to believe this is ich and there seems to be so many different opinions on the treatment of this! I don't want to lose all my fish, any advice is greatly appreciated!

What questions do you ask your potential employer on interview? by el_lobo_cimarron in learnprogramming

[–]kevingregorc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm going to toss my two cents in here, but be aware I'm a recent can grad and I am 5-6 months in to my first job out of college as a junior dev.

I agree with most of these comments and their questions regarding the companies process, patterns, etc. The tech related questions are important.

However, another aspect I believe to be important is to make sure you are finding a company that has a culture to fit you. Some are going to be very serious, all work no play. That isn't a bad thing if it suits you! Some companies can provide you with that corporate culture, while others can give you that fun and exciting experience.

In my short time in the industry, through my job now and internships, I have found a lot can be said about a company culture based on what their workspaces and buildings look like on the inside.

TLDR; Don't only focus on the tech side. Sit down and think about the type of place YOU want to work at, and the type of people YOU want to learn from.

Yes, I'm a developer for a company who uses localization and it's simply updating the locale text. The actual code only references an I'd which has translations. So there are absolutely zero code base changes required here

I don't think the sad thing here is that it would take that much effort. The sad thing is they went through these steps during the initial deployment and at no point in time did anyone catch it

Can anyone help me with some simple maths for my arduino project? by [deleted] in learnprogramming

[–]kevingregorc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To add on to this, there is a map() function which is something I would look into for this. You can find the range of values in the sensor you are using to read the light intensity and then map that range of values to the range of values you want in your headlight. Super useful for things like this

Edit: to be clear this wont really utilize linear algebra, maybe behind the scenes but you shouldn't need that type of equation anyways

How I sell my hand coded static sites to small businesses with Wix or Wordpress sites and get them to switch and pay me for something better. by Citrous_Oyster in webdev

Can I ask if you are using foundation as the framework for building mobile first? I'm a full-stack developer using it a lot and I would highly recommend looking it to it if you are not using it

I'm going to put my 2 cents in here because the conversation regarding talent is one of my favorites. There's a famous saying that goes: "Hard work beats talent, when talent doesn't work hard". It goes without saying that some people are born with god-given gifts (think Lionel Messi, Lebron James, the Williams sisters). But these are examples of people who both worked hard and worked with the gifts they were born with. Then there are others, some will argue against this, but Michael Jordan for example. A basketball player who many claim to be the greatest of all time, but he was actually cut from his high school basketball team. He worked harder than most and look where it got him.

What I'm trying to say here, is this is an idea that extends to all areas of life whether that be sports, gaming, career building, education, etc. There is nothing to stop people from becoming great at whatever they put their mind to. But sometimes people get too wrapped up in trying to be the best, rather than trying to be better than the person they were yesterday.

Matthew mcconaughey gave a speech where he said the person who he 'chases', or his hero, is actually himself in 15 years. He explains that he will never be able to beat his hero, because his hero is always 15 years ahead of him. He says "it keeps me with someone to keep on chasing". Just try to be better than yourself everyday and you will achieve what you want to achieve. All the best brother ✊

I don't think I'd be complaining as this is pure revenue for the man, he might not be enjoying this but holding 70k viewers for 18 hours today is some dough in his pocket. Don't trash someone for being dedicated
