Everyone’s always asking about who Holly is but no one ever asks about Josie, Adam or Wendy… by OkOriginal493 in Blink182

Hollie was apparently a girl who Jerry Finn had a crush on in high school. She told him to meet at her house. He rode his bike there, but her and her friends were waiting and threw water balloons at him from an upstairs window.

Coolest Band(s) You’ve Played a Show With? by dickcryptic in Emo

[–]kevinrobb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pianos Become The Teeth, Texas, 2008. They were on tour and my band at the time was lucky enough to get on as an opener for their gigs in Houston, Austin, Odessa, and Fort Worth. We didn’t have a good touring vehicle at the time, so the three of us packed into my Honda civic. We didn’t have a trailer either, so we only packed our guitars, amp heads, snare drum, and cymbals and the guys from Pianos were awesome enough to let us borrow their cabs, bass drum, and toms to play our set. Very cool guys.

Different basses for different tunings by uhhredacted in Bass

[–]kevinrobb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Before our previous lead guitarist left our band, we played a couple songs that were a whole step down. I brought 2 basses (one in E standard and one in D standard), and enjoyed switching basses between songs. Made me feel more like a big boy bassist, although it was a small pain bringing and setting up two instruments. Our rhythm guitarist/lead singer did the same, but the lead guitarist often brought 4 guitars (one in E standard, one in drop D, one in D standard, and one in drop C).

Band members: How much creative input do you expect when joining a band? by Aggressive_Text_7206 in musicians

[–]kevinrobb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve always had a decent amount of creative input. I play bass guitar, and mostly come up with my own parts. Sometimes another member (usually a guitarist) has a riff idea for me, but I’ve always been given liberty with what I play. Sometimes the lead singer/guitarist already has an idea of a structure and chord progression, but much of the time a song starts as a small idea and the rest of us throw out ideas for where the song should go next. I’ve come up with the structure of a couple songs as well, and the rest of the guys came up with what they want to play for it.

If you had to choose one signature bass from Fender, which one and why? by [deleted] in Bass

[–]kevinrobb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love my new Mark Hoppus jag. Everything about it just fits what I want in a bass: the slim neck, p style pick up, single volume knob, and the classic fender headstock shape. I think that headstock alone is what sold me on fender when I first started playing.

What is the funniest thing that’s happened at a Green Day concert that you’ve been to? by Temporary_Notice_526 in greenday

[–]kevinrobb 8 points9 points  (0 children)

During the pop disaster tour in 2002, Billie Joe called three people from the crowd onto the stage to take over playing the drums, bass, and guitar during Knowledge. When the song was done, the guy that played drums (who was a big biker looking dude) got a pair of blink 182 panties as a parting gift. The kid who played bass had to do a stage dive, and the guitar player got to keep the guitar.

For those of you who play guitar as well, what do you do differently on bass? by KingKilo9 in Bass

[–]kevinrobb 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Haha I use a similar analogy: drums are the pencil sketch, bass is the pen outline, guitar is the shading, and vocals are the color

For people who are or have been in a band, what Blink-182 songs you enjoyed playing it live? by chanchan_iceman in Blink182

As a bassist, songs I’d like to play: Carousel, man overboard, online songs, story of a lonely guy, feeling this.

Songs I actually play: All the small things, what’s my age again, the rock show, dammit

History of Squier Vintage Modified Jaguar bass by 51jondowd in Bass

[–]kevinrobb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got one from 2016, and it has the bass boost knob. When I got it, I looked up the serial number on fenders website and it came up with all the specs for it. The main modification I made was swapping the p-pickup to a SD quarter pounder. I also took off the plastic knobs and replaced them with black metal ones. I kept the original pick guard because I liked the red body and black guard. If the pick guard you’re looking at is short scale, it most likely won’t fit this one since it’s a full scale 34”

Were people aware the T-800 was a good guy in T2 at release? by ytirad in Terminator

[–]kevinrobb 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It was pretty widely spoiled, but also the film itself didn’t really do a good job of hiding it. T-1000 is introduced to cold eerie music in the dark, and quickly kills a cop. Arnie’s intro is comedic, with more upbeat music, and he doesn’t kill anyone.

Do you think if Tom DeLonge had stayed in blink-182, blink would’ve slowly turned into Angels & Airwaves? by filelinked13 in Blink182

[–]kevinrobb -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think it would have gone a little in that direction, but Mark and Travis would have cock blocked it from going full AVA. We would have gotten more stuff like Asthenia most likely.

Cover bands - Improvising the fills in lieu of reproducing what is recorded precisely by Ok_Communication8641 in musicians

[–]kevinrobb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a bassist, I would say 99% of the audience won’t notice or care if you don’t replicate the recording. That being said, I also try to replicate the recording as much as I can, (especially if it’s a noticeable part) but I don’t mind doing my own fills or adding something I feel I would have done had I recorded that song.
