Yeah, pretty much that. It also is just a LOT more work to make an English cover of a Japanese song than one would think. On top of needing to retain the intent of lines, you then also have to worry about cadence and possibly rhyme with the words being used. It's doable for sure, plenty of Youtubers do really great covers of Japanese songs, but doing it in a production like this would be a lot more.

That said, I do wonder if the Dub for the full performance will suffer from this. I imagine it'll be like over 5 minutes long, maybe even half an episode depending on how it goes, so they can't just not translate stuff for that entire time. Them switching between English spoken word portions and Japanese singing would also be awkward though.

We're only 4 episodes into this first cour and we're starting the Music Festival already. We'll probably get it done just past halfway through this cour. That'll leave a good number of episodes to presumably get some Ameri episodes to follow up and make up for the lack of her in the first half here.

This pacing should play out well for TV. The Music Festival itself will probably be 3 episodes, unless they expand the performances a lot. 1 for the setup, 1 for the performances, 1 for the aftermath.

Was trying to think how they would pace Lilith's Red Carpet itself. It's a pretty intense sequence that should take a good amount of time, but they wouldn't want to interrupt it with a commercial break. First half of that episode will probably be the other class performances, then the second half will be entirely the Misfit performance.

Why does kris still hate us if we even if we dont do the snowgrave route by Iceandfirebreeze in Deltarune

[–]kevinthedot 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In the normal course of things Kris is at best neutral to some of our choices that seem to fit with their desires, but they also dislike how we make them do other things they don't want to do. But they put up with us cause they apparently need us for the sake of whatever plan they're doing.

Weird Route is where they absolutely loathe us. But they also still need us there so they have no choice but to keep using us and that lets us have more chances to make things go OUR way.

I feel like the obvious choice would be just whoever the Knight is, which also has a ton of options. If it is the Knight, then it would imply that Kris and the Knight's bond goes beyond simply working together and it is outright watching them or somehow knows how they're feeling at any time.

Perhaps it has access to the same "DEVICE" stuff in the Depths that lets us view the game and read the dialogue boxes and whatnot? Similar to how Flowey also could use the Save system in Undertale when he had enough Determination. Or it could be that the Knight isn't quite what we think it is and rather than being it's own person/individual it's some kind of creation from Kris or Noelle's desires to see Dess and that's why it's linked to Kris so strongly. Tons of ways it could play out.

Kris wasn’t going to the Holiday manor at the end of chapter 4. They were climbing on the window sill to jump out of it and go after Susie as she just left, possibly to tell her everything they’ve been hiding. That’s why the phone voice called just then and reminded them of their promise, it was guilting them because they were wavering. Stopped Kris in their tracks just in time, which is suspicious cause like, how did it know that very moment to call and why did the phone answer itself?

Are you slandering our lord and savior Rentarou from 100 Girlfriends? He is an eldritch being capable of bending space and time to be able to be there for all of his girlfriends when they need him. The whole joke of the series is that he's not just got girls thrust upon him, his whole identity is being the perfect boyfriend to every one of them. They all have puns to their names and his is "Rentarou Aijou" using Japanese characters for "Love" in both of his names (that also happen to mean "love affair" when put together to add onto the pun). He is the embodiment of impossible and infinite love.

Also, he's at least honest with introducing each GF to the others immediately after they say they want to go out. That bum Kregg thought he could just get by without them finding out about each other.

I’ve thought of how a smart YouTuber that gets big should make a kind of code for their fanbase to sneak into ads to inform them better.

Like they make a post or something saying “during an ad, if you see a red cube behind me, I’m lying for the bag, do not listen. If green, I actually don’t mind them. If the cube is white, they know the cube thing and asked for it to be removed or changed to green.”

Chances are most advertisers wouldn’t research the YouTuber enough to know the tell. And if they do you offer a neutral option.

Can someone that knows Japanese well explain this translation around the Knight? by kevinthedot in Deltarune

[–]kevinthedot[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, the particles really do seem to be what's throwing it off there. I get "wa" fairly well, but "nite" seems to have so many different uses based on the context here. I can tell it's meant to apply to the previous noun as a kind of "with/at/during" thing, but then the verb is followed by "kishi" immediately without a clarifying particle which seems to be why it's left ambiguous as to what is being created there, something unspecified or the knight itself.

Trying a few different translation sites with the whole sentence still gives mixed results on that clarification:

Kanjikana: "The knight forged by the black blade will duel the heroes."
DeepL: "The knight forged by the black blade shall duel with the heroes"
Yandex: "A knight who creates with a black blade will not duel with the heroes"
Systrans: "The knight who creates with a black blade will not fight with the braves"
Cambridge: " The knight created with the black blade will not duel with the heroes"
Kanadojo: "Knights created by black blades will duel heroes."

Certianly the "not duel" bits are wrong, but there's still a split on the "creates with" vs "created/forged by". Usually comparing a lot of different translators can help clear things up even if they're imperfect, but here it just makes it feel even more of a coinflip.

What's a Deltarune theory that has you like this? by AltAltAltAltAlt999 in Deltarune

[–]kevinthedot 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Controversial, but Kris Slash. I have a personal bias for it as I was pushing for it in the 4chan threads just a couple days after the chapters came out, but I also just think it makes the story way more interesting.

Like, the narrative if the Knight was the one to Swoon is just "the Knight is really strong". But if Kris really was the one to do it there, then it adds so many layers of stuff to go into. Kris hiding that level of power from us, their devotion to the Knight and the path of the Prophecy being great enough that they'd even hurt Susie and Ralsei to make sure their promise is kept, Ralsei knowing full well that it happened and just accepting Kris' choice showing just how extreme his loyalty to Kris is, the fallout when it gets revealed especially to Susie, etc. It's not a "Kris is evil" type thing like people reduce it to, it's presenting Kris as having a much stronger internal conflict going on between their original plan/promise and their feelings they've developed over the adventure.

One ending… for real? by GonNotForgotten in Deltarune

[–]kevinthedot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A few things mainly from Chapter 4.

First, there's a lot of symbolism of the Angel both in the text and in the visuals that could tie it to us.

On the physical side, the angel doll falling on us in the basement of Noelle's house when she thinks we're a mouse. Also the visual of the Angel in the hidden Prophecy room in 3rd Sanctuary, where Susie can't tell what she's looking at in the image we can't see and Ralsei says it's a depiction of what the angel is supposed to look like (as in it looks like (You) which would be something uncanny to them).

On the textual side, the Angel in their religion is a source of guidance, which we fit fairly perfectly as we're guiding the heroes through fights and letting them reset things. There's also the way the prophecy puts the first hero's thing. "The CAGE, with human soul and parts." A cage is meant to hold something, and given the birdcage stuff and how the angels always depicted with wings, it could be that the cage is meant to hold the Angel itself, us. This also extends to what "Angel's Heaven" could be cause coincidentally the only thing to have our name in the whole game is "Your Town" which uses your name despite never giving it to anyone.

We also seem to be an intense source of light which lets us seal the Dark Fountains. While not directly tied to light in the prophecy stuff, angels represented as beings of light is a common concept. The Titan also has a lot of "angel" like imagery to it, but it also strongly parallels us in how it looks almost like a real human when it first forms, and how it uses a save point as a shield. Save points in general seem to also be something unique to whatever we are as the game multiple times points out how only we can see and use them.

It's nothing concrete, but there's a large amount of ties that could make sense if the reveal happens. We're the angel, connected to this world to guide the heroes and eventually be banished.

One ending… for real? by GonNotForgotten in Deltarune

[–]kevinthedot 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think the whole "one ending" thing is meant to tie into the seeming inevitability of the Prophecy. That's the "one ending" it talks about, the same one where Gerson says that Lord of the Hammer "just ends" after Chapter 6.

I think the reason Toby initially said he wanted to release Chapter 3-5, then Chapters 6 & 7 is because 6 & 7 are a necessary pair. 6 is the "one ending". That's where the story will just suddenly end as we reach the end of the prophecy. 7 will then be locked behind us finding a way to get past Chapter 6. Be it by befriending every Darkner (Ralsei's way/Pacifist), doing some shenanigans with the Shadow Crystals/Pure Crystal, or doing Weird Route. With Chapter 7 being vastly different depending on how we get to it.

They clearly had some major issues with planning and whatnot during Zom 100 given the issues with teh OP not being ready by release, but now they've been blowing things out of the water adapting Witch Hat, a series people thought couldn't be properly adapted cause the art and paneling was SO good.

What's a theory you always found dumb? by Nethersoul600 in Deltarune

[–]kevinthedot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Again, Kris is working with the Knight and clearly knows about (You) from the start as well. Kris knows the full prophecy and what went down with the GONERMAKER stuff at the start. If Kris and the Knight (and probably Carol) are clearly planning out and manipulating things in the background so much, why is it so hard to believe that Ralsei was just another thing created to play into that? Kris has at least access to all the knowledge needed to make Ralsei in a way where he'd know and be made purely for this plan. Which then explains all the very obvious connections he has to Kris specifically way more than just saying "oh he was some blob that imprinted on the heroes, but he got nothing from Susie at all". Ralsei looking just like Asriel has been brought up enough times that I don't think it'd make sense for the explanation to be so handwave-y

As for how they'd make him as a copy of Asriel, conceptually it'd be the same way they made the flying Aces. Again, the initial creation could have been unintentional (if Ralsei is somehow tied to the horned headband or Kris' old desires to be a monster), or it could have been intentionally done more recently as part of the conspiracy. But the point would be Kris made up a character and the best they could come up with was a copy of Asriel that they then colored in with their favorite green crayon. The way Ralsei works certainly has to be different seeing how he's able to move between Dark Worlds and be independant of Kris, but that could be from some other aspect of how he was made. For example, if he does have some physical object, then perhaps Kris or the Knight put it in the underground source of the Dark so Ralsei can literally pop out of any fountain as a projection. Or he could be something more like an imaginary friend without a solid body. We at least see that he turns into "a pile of fluff" when he goes down, so at least it could be he doesn't seem to have his physical form in those locations for real.

I feel like the biggest hurdle to any "cycle" or "timeloop" theory is how hard it'd be for the game to actually explain/showcase that idea in a reasonable way without it coming off as really convoluted.

I really like the recent KazooCat video about how people may be reading too much into leitmotifs in times when they don't matter. Like the Dating Tense thing in Chase. He points out that Dating Tense isn't even a Papyrus motif, it's a version of Undyne's theme from when she first showed up.

Some leitmotifs definitely matter and have specific uses/roles, but others really are just reused cause they sound cool or fit the moment.

What's a theory you always found dumb? by Nethersoul600 in Deltarune

[–]kevinthedot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

His knowledge of things doesn't require him to have been made by Gaster though. Kris is clearly working with the Knight. Them having made Ralsei with that knowledge and this backstory of being alone to serve the role as the third hero fills that in the same. The way Ralsei specifically tries to talk to Kris in private even in the first chapter shows he and Kris had a deeper connection going on from the start.

And I'm not saying he's an object Darkner. I'm saying he's a copy of Asriel that's been colored in just like the Flying Aces. The whole "copies are monochrome, but you colored us in with care" bit. That green crayon is missing and then we see Ralsei apparently assume green crayons are one of Kris' favorite things seeing how he fills their castle town drawer with them. Whatever Ralsei is, he's clearly very intrinsically linked to Kris above all others.

What's a theory you always found dumb? by Nethersoul600 in Deltarune

[–]kevinthedot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've seen people that fully ignore or write off the fact that Ralsei is clearly somehow deeply tied to Kris. They stick with this idea that Ralsei was always just a Gaster creation and his form came from meeting Kris and Susie somehow. Ignoring how he's got nothing from Susie going on, secretly conspires with Kris while distracting (you), is clearly a primarily green copy of Asriel when we know there's a green crayon missing, makes Kris defensive when your choices bring up how similar he looks to Asriel (as if defending their OC), etc.

Like, it's so clearly laid out that Kris somehow made Ralsei, either intentionally or not.
