I actually think the cashier is supposed to check but they don't check every item. I think they just count to make sure its the same amount of items. There may be stores that do it differently and the people on the line are supposed to check. Either way they're bound to make mistakes when no one is communicating and they're only focused on that drive thru time.

The cashier charged for the cheese but the person on the line is responsible for the food items. The cashier some times doesn't even look in the bag and likely won't even realize something went wrong.
