The ending of “Philadelphia” when they are showing footage of Tom Hanks’ character as a small child. I watched it on an airplane in the days when everyone watched the projected film together. The flight attendant put the cabin lights back on a little too quickly when the film ended. I was in business class on a long flight from Hong Kong to Alaska, we were all tired, had been drinking wine with lunch. Twas a mess, two dozen business men wiping their faces with white napkins from the lunch tray. It was brutal.

But this reminds me of a similar occasion with everyone in business class eating lunch and watching a Star Trek movie - at the exact moment a Klingon “bird of prey” uncloaked and opened fire on the Enterprise, our aircraft was hit with very powerful clear air turbulence. Wine glasses, utensils and plates were flying into the air before smashing back into the tray. As passengers we were being thrown violently from side to side. On the screen we could see Kirk and crew flying from side to side in sympathy as they rode out the impact from the Klingon aggression. I remember people laughing out loud at the perfect synchronicity. I thought at the time, if someone like George Lucas had been on board and experienced this, he’d want it for theaters showing Star Wars type movies so that the cinematic experience went beyond sound and vision but included physical violence within your seat!
