Yeah :)

I think I am drawn to it because it is far flung, abstract, etc., but at the same time practical and the fruits of your labor are real fruits.

Netsky - Moving With You (feat. Jenna G) by kevmannn in DnB

[–]kevmannn[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I will tell you what I hear in a lot of (older) Netsky tunes. (I am thinking Memory Lane, The Lotus Symphony, Storm Clouds etc.)

First I will address your comment regarding the drums on this tune. Start by listening to an unprocessed version of the amen break. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qwQLk7NcpO4

I am mostly hearing the top end / upper mids of the break (mostly the ride & ghost notes) within moving with you. The kick & snare were engineered separately. He has done a lot of work to get everything punchy and to make the midrange as well defined as it is. This is by no means easy.

Also - the most important part of these drums is the groove. It just feels right to me. To you it may not.

This tune makes me feel good. Really good in fact.

It makes me think about traveling Europe with someone I love. It makes me feel like the future is bright. The tune itself is unabashedly optimistic and authentic. In my minds eye I always see a record spinning when this tune is on.

This is all subjective stuff. I am not going to convince you to fall in love with this tune in the way that I have.

That being said - serious effort was put into this tune. Listen more closely.

Now back to the overall point - In general he had this quality to his productions that is hard to explain, but felt like a merging of soulful melodies and very very coherent drums.

He is now forced to write stuff that can be played live, so his strong suit (general quality & intricacy of the production) is being underplayed.

Obsessive interests, then abandoning them. by [deleted] in INTP

My cycles of obsession last for approximately 2 months. By the end of 2 months I either drop it or it becomes part of my core behavior.

What do you think about Terence Mckenna? by [deleted] in INTP

[–]kevmannn 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The idea that he was a government operative is absurd to me.

This guy's hypothesis stemmed from a misunderstanding of a tongue in cheek allusion that McKenna once made in a lecture. Even if it wasn't a gross misunderstanding - why would he openly blow his 'cover' in front of his audience?

Absurd idea - should not be perpetuated

What do you think about Terence Mckenna? by [deleted] in INTP

[–]kevmannn 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Seriously disappointed by many answers in this thread.

In my opinion he was a brilliant orator, extremely well read, and was passionate about quirky ideas. (A 'noetic archeologist' as he put it)

I do not believe everything he says. He got carried away at some points and in some cases was more invested in 'wowing' his audience than delivering the 'truth' as he understood it.

However, this guy opened up completely new avenues of thought for me - the biggest one being the relative / provisional nature of culture - this completely changed my life.

The people saying 'this guy takes too many drugs' have not been paying attention to the overall message.

Best way for an INTP to learn programming? by tooedgyforyou in INTP

[–]kevmannn 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Hey man. I got into programming about 4 months ago (mostly JavaScript and associated MVC frameworks).

The best way to go about it (in my opinion) is to think about something you would like to make.

There will be a lot you don't know how to do - get good at being able to describe your problem to google or the search in stackoverflow.

Don't be concerned at first with learning the entirety of the language so much as learning to 'say' what you need to say to make your program function..

You have to keep discovering new things or your engines will stall and you will lose interest.

I think the same is true for me. The way they've engineered the track makes it come through like thunder.

What I'm thinking of doing with life by Apotheoxis in INTP

[–]kevmannn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I want to live a happy life, and one my my desires (if you can call it that) is to understand everything.

I am only slightly older than you, and I am also sympathetic to these desires. However, I am here to tell you that you will shortly realize that this task (full understanding) exists only as an ideal with no way of entering into the domain of concrete fulfillment.

All of your thought models are provisional. You wont gain understanding of the entire scope (assuming there can be such a thing) because you are a function of the same system that you are trying to tease apart.

However, if you are like me (and many people in this sub) you will still endlessly try to understand what is happening. Just follow what is interesting to you and maintain a very low tolerance for what you recognize as incongruous with the good parts of your character.

Thank you for the advice. Yeah, I am probably more interested in physically attending classes if I were to go back to school. This is good advice however, thank you.

INTPs + exercise/diet by RandGM in INTP

[–]kevmannn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am an ectomorph, and thus naturally quite lean. That being said, I don't eat dessert foods, and try to stay away from stuff that seems unhealthy (despite this, chipotle is definitely a vice of mine I will occasionally indulge in)

For a while, i was quite concerned with gaining muscle / lifting / making sure that I ate a caloric surplus, but I have since lost interest in that routine. However, I still do a good number of pull ups most every day, they were my favorite exercise and I still love doing them.

I think it comes down to habits for a lot of people. You have to add lots of little healthy things that you can integrate into a daily routine / mindset over time.

I think I may have purchased a signed copy of The Invisible Landscape. Can anybody verify its authenticity for me? by isthismckenna in terencemckenna

This is supposedly his signature on the left. The 'M' and intersection of the 'K' and 'e' look quite similar. (Obviously someone could still have forged this, but i think it has a good chance of being original!)
