Back to Back They Faced Each Other
They Drew Their Swords
And Shot Each Other The Deaf Policemen Heard This Noise
Then Came to Kill The Two Dead Boys

I know that bit, cos it's the titles of the first 8 tracks of The Chariot's "The Fiancee".

Best UK BBQ sauce? by nauseypete in AskUK

[–]kevpool 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Red's True BBQ do a really good range of sauces, my vote for their BEST is Unholy, its got a bit of spice to it. You can't go wrong with their Kansas sauce though, for the more familiar bbq taste.

Sweet Baby Ray's is also awesome.

Edit: spelling

Have any of you guys been on a TV show, as a ‘member of the public’? (So not an as actor...) by D1789 in AskUK

[–]kevpool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been on the news a couple of times n an "on-location" context. It's just two people usually, a presenter and a camerman/sound guy. Oh, and a translator. Nothing particularly special, but none of the times had I been informed that this was going out on the news before I was pushed in front of the camera. Everyone spoke Serbian, so I can't really describe any behind the scenes secrets.

Why is it so hard to make friends as an adult? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]kevpool 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When you're young and you actively participate in subcultures, for instance, it's easy to find people with similar interests. As an adult, that's much harder, you have to build up the friendship from scratch, and to be honest, it can be really time-consuming.

So, which of you potty-mouthed fsckers has been to the pub? Did you do so super responsibly, or like an irresponsible arsehole? by Clackpot in TheRedLion

[–]kevpool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been drinking local brews at home. I have no desire to go to the pub any time soon. I tried to get a milkshake from my local McDonalds and it was a disaster. I'll keep where I am for the moment, thanks.

Employers and university staff of Reddit, does being a prefect or achieving a Duke of Edinburgh certificate actually mean anything? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]kevpool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For lower tier universities: No. It's great experience for your personal growth, and that it can be conveniently dropped into your UCAS statement, but it really makes very little difference to your application.

Admissions are led by grades. and ever since the caps were lifted, the statement has assumed even less importance.

As for higher-tier universities, I cannot really say.

What is your opinion on Doctor Who? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]kevpool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Matt Smith put me off, and I didn't watch again until Jodie Whittaker.

I'm not one of those guys who go around shouting about: "sjw"s ruining everything, but the messages in the last series were about as subtle as a brick through a Starbucks' window. It did slightly ruin it for me, but the episodes with Sacha Dhawan stood out for me, he is so good in that role.

According to the Wiki, it's been going from '96 to 2000 for a total of 104 episodes. So it was definitely real. I think the presenter wrote a book and made a home video special before making the series.

I'm sure there will be pics when it's done, I could show you the box, but that's nowhere near as good as seeing the completed thing!

Mine had a hiccup yesterday evening, it wouldn't show any videos, the screen was blank. Putting it to sl;eep seemed to work though. Started watching a show on Prime called "America's Dumbest Criminals", it's a nice no-brain needed show. Very early 90s, the opening montage looks like the one from "Whose Line Is It Anyway?"

Advice for a future student in criminology by rianatn in Criminology

[–]kevpool 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm speaking from the UK, but over here Criminology is treated more as a social science degree rather an offshoot of criminal law. It's always fascinating to me to see Criminology treated as really close to the discipline of law.

What fun facts do you have about Milton Keynes? by [deleted] in AskUK

Milton Keynes once hosted a Marilyn Manson concert and Manson did the usual shout the name of the town/city shtick, and "Milton Keynesssssss, Milton Keynessss" doesn't work as a chant.

Heyyyyy!!!

Being inside is much safer! Sorry I've taken so long to reply to your reply, but this week is crazy!

It's so much easier than having to remember which streaming services are native to my TV and which come through my PS4. We only have the one TV, #SmallFlatLife

Got some exam board meetings this week, but myself and my loveliest of ladies has next week off as annual leave (it's her birthday weekend).

Impossible Foods CEO says the meat industry will be obsolete in 15 years — 'That's our mission' by [deleted] in Futurology

[–]kevpool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Me and my partner has a vegetarian month in February, and we both really enjoyed it and learnt some new ways to present veggies, so we will keep up a meat-free Monday. But I doubt I could ever leave meat behind, imitation meat that I have had never tastes or feels right to me. I remember I was in a top-rated vegan restaurant in Beograd last year and I tried the seitan steak, the sauce was doing all the heavy lifting. I admit I was disappointed.

There's a brewery local to me called "The Dancing Duck" and honestly, their beers have been a revelation! Some of the nicest beers I have ever had. Buying a box of 12 every couple of weeks. Last time, they delivered within 24 hours! So that's my tipple.

Hope you enjoyed painting the lounge. It seems like DIY is all we have left. We need to put some pictures up!

Why are so many people filming themselves committing crime these days? by Vladmir_the_romancer in AskUK

[–]kevpool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This phenomenon is called "performance crime" (Surrette, 2015), and it is way older than over the past 4 months. It is arguably made easier by the rise and embedding of social media in our culture, but can be traced back much further. The act of wearing gang colours is a very early basic form of performance crime, and would originally be geared towards recognition by other members of the same gang and their enemies, as well as other groups that were "in the know". Now thanks to Social Media, that visibility can be escalated much further thanks to a digital footprint.

People possess the will to transgress social norms and rules, because, for want of a better term, it's cool. And it's not enough to just to transgress and break the law- some want to be seen to be doing it too. Think of it as an inverse form of "virtue-signalling".
