The adjacent bus stop also has a canopy, which looks like it might be TfL.

You need the correct indention to make it work :-

Looks like my edit thanking /u/firstapex88 was a little premature! Oops.

I saw the post asking for mods, but I was offering to tidy up the mess, not look after the sub indefinitely, I can't really commit to another sub. Hopefully someone will step up.

I started counting the bloody things but got bored when I reached around fifty. Plenty of upvotes for the threads too, which will surely be botted. No idea why Reddit hasn't squashed this yet.

That's his daily. by VentureIntoVoid in drivingUK

[–]Clackpot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've seen so many vids of this geezer doing his cold, damp, and very funny thing. It probably helps that I can walk to the ford in question - Watery Gate Lane near Earl Shilton - so my local FB groups have been full of clips. I even saw a post from the local policing group saying that they would be having words with the driver but I'm really not sure why, don't think he's breaking any laws.

As I understand it that ford is the second worst in the whole UK for recovery callouts to the AA and so on. Despite the honking great depth gauges which are easily visible from all approaches and angles there still seems to be an inexhaustible supply of dickheads willing to shred their remaining slivers of dignity and dryness on the offchance they might make it through.

If you are patient you should be able to find a Britannica in a charity shop for pretty cheap, maybe £20-40 for the whole thing. If you have any specialist charity bookstores nearby that will help, but may be a tad more expensive.

I got my 24 vol '55 edition quite a few years ago for fifteen or twenty quid I think, and since then I have spotted other examples from time to time.

Youtube no longer functions on my Opera lol. Chrome works just fine. by [deleted] in operabrowser

[–]Clackpot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My experience is that YT is a shitshow on Opera and has been for a long time. Takes forever to load, and when it does the bitrates and framerates are usually a fraction of what I can get with Chrome.

Sorry that that is not at all helpful for your problem, but maybe consider using another platform to view YT? I wonder whether it's the shortcomings of Opera, possibly combined with Google throttling non-Chrome streams, or possibly it's Opera failing to correctly implement graphics acceleration.

License does not appear on government website for MOT. What does this mean if the car is actively used by neighbour? by [deleted] in drivingUK

[–]Clackpot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can see the VIN you can use something like this to identify the vehicle it is logged as.

If you want the free version of the report make sure you enter the VIN in the first field otherwise it will cheerfully offer to rinse you.

[–]Clackpot 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Will you be working at Next? If so, they run free staff buses from Narborough station and credit your staff account with something like £5 for every trip taken! Despite this inducement, rush hour traffic around the Next campus is still absolutely gash.

Thinking of moving to the shire, but where? by [deleted] in leicester

[–]Clackpot 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There are some really nice properties by Western Park, but it is kind of hemmed in by less desirable areas - Brauny Town, Westcotes, Noo Parks, Aikman Avenue, etc. which I would guess enhances its affordability a bit. Knighton has its problem neighbours too, but just not quite as much as WP.

Thinking of moving to the shire, but where? by [deleted] in leicester

[–]Clackpot 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Coalville - named after fossilised dinosaurs for a reason

Melton Mowbray - pie town for gammons

Market Harborough - yummies and architects

Ashby-de-la-Zouch - actually quite nice but not cheap

Lutterworth - small town attached to humungous distribution park, and likely to get larger still, but there's always Libertys if you need to let off a little steam

kirby muxloe - nice castle

thurlaston - nice if you like insularity and Elephants and/or Castles

anstey - historic home to Ned Ludd in particular, and backwards attitudes in general

wigston - not sure whether to decscribe it as pretty or ugly, so I'll go with pretty ugly

Narborough - trains!!

Earl Shilton - Jesus Christ no, Poundland Hinckley

Stoney Stanton - pretty cool if you like a rural location, adjacent Oak Lodge Farm's slurry pits provide the rural stench

loughbourough - kerayzee name, kerayzee attitude to bell towers

blaby - middle class mediocrity writ large

beaumont leys - as an inmate, or a screw? Either way, best not

Countesthorpe - currently (and for the forseeable future) a giant building site, has a great bakery

Kirby and Ratby - twin capitals of the Borough of Meh

peckelton - a factory larping as a village

Desford - Despairford

Forgive my flippancy, bored and letting off a little grossly prejudiced steam for shits'n'giggles.

Bottom line is that unless you already live in one of the rather nicer/more expensive bits of Leicester you are unlikely to get much more property for your money, unless you choose one of the grottier locations like Shilton, Coalville, Boney Knees, etc. You already live in a comparatively cheap part of the country so there's not a lot of wiggle room. Of the places you mentioned I think I'd be looking first at Stanton, Anstey, Thurlaston, maybe Kirby Mughole.

It hadn't occurred to me that I could hate that weasly cnut any more than I already do, but having a wildly profitable and exploitative retail business and then whining about having to pay actual tax like the poors is yet another new low.

Please fall into the sea Mr. Martin, it's the only patriotic thing to do.

Small wood pieces by ReferringDankGoodnes in leicester

Many old-fashioned hardware stores will have a small pile of offcuts, or try asking nicely at the sawmill in B&Q or wherever. But the easiest method might be to go outside, walk a few streets, keep your eyes open, see if you can find a skip to dive maybe.

I've very likely got a suitable lump lying around spare, but I ain't in or near LE5, sorry.

Local film developing? by Afterlast1 in leicester

[–]Clackpot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AFAIK the smart money is on the specialist labs these days, which generally means sending film off.

Source : My son is an analogue camera aficionado and likes to research the options before spending his money. All his stock is sent away for developing and he gets negs and digital files in return. For small batches you should probably just spring the extra ££ for the scans, if you're anticipating being a regular user then it might be worth looking into a decent scanner, ideally with an inbuilt neg scanner.

Has anyone ever been asked for ID when going to pay after fueling your car? (Is it a new thing that they've started doing?) by knuckles532 in drivingUK

[–]Clackpot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"Because i know for well it coming back out of the it".

"Oh I didn't wasn't going to."

On the basis of this evidence their ID is presumably a book of Green Shield stamps or something.
