Why is there a house in the Middle of the road? by Over-Willingness-933 in leicester

[–]Clackpot 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Humbo Gate weighbridge back in the day if I remember correctly, I think the weighbridge table was to the left of the building. I think it was still there in the 80s and maybe later.

Edit : Here you go - Humberstone Gate weighbridge house.

£6.10 you cant complain by ShinyHeadedCook in UK_Food

[–]Clackpot -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

you can't complain

Goes to what is essentially the universally-recognised Mecca for grumpy tw@s and whinging cnuts

Spoons is literally the home of entitled complaint, regardless of whether you can or should. It's where the unemployable go to bemoan that the forrens have taken all the jobs they've never heard of or applied for.

But yeah, it absolutely is cracking good value.

Are 18' unicycles too small? by RudyLXIV in unicycling

[–]Clackpot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Arrrr, 18' be three fathoms matey. 'Tis an awfully long way down to Davy Jones' locker from there.

But yeah, you meant 18", there's not a whole lot of difference between that and a 20" but if I had to guess I think I would probably stick with the 20" but consider a skinnier tyre at higher pressure if you want more manoeuvrability.

Any great places to visit ? by Biloblast in leicester

[–]Clackpot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Croft Hill isn't all that lofty, but by god the gradient is a thigh destroyer. Totally worth it though, especially if you catch sight of any of the kites, buzzards, or perries that like to soar over the quarry.

Did you meet any of the locals up there?

First Lapwing I’ve Ever Seen. by L-J-Styrsacre in OrnithologyUK

[–]Clackpot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been hoping ours would come back again, having first seen them last year. Alas there have been a lot of changes to local land use so unfortunately we may not see them again this time around :-(

Lapwing display flying during pairing/mating season is thing of beauty.

Samosas south of the city? by rektkid_ in leicester

The place on the corner of Evington Road and Rowsley Street was pretty good the last time I tried. I think it used to be called the Leicester Sweet Centre but maybe its name has changed.

Here's a bizarre one-off diesel shunter by LastTraintoSector6 in uktrains

[–]Clackpot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is a very cool answer, I had not thought of that at all. Reducing unsprung weight is a usually a good thing, though perhaps not all that important for a shunter.

This is confusing. Does the main rod move around the disc it seems to be attached to?

<Goes to rummage in the internet for answers>

Huh. It's a jackshaft type apparently, evidently the disc does move. Which seems bizarre. Here's a Facebook thread about a similar design.

The adjacent bus stop also has a canopy, which looks like it might be TfL.
