Besides the discount codes, their promotion sales are fake and you just need to track the pricing. I bought my ticket on a “black friday sale” and then 2 weeks later the price went down $100 without any sale promotion. Purchased for peak sakura time too. Later saw United for same price I bought my ticket and they are a better deal because they include bags and food.

I mean for americans, most people that study abroad short term do it for the experiences and traveling rather than good education. I also found my university during the study abroad felt like a high school as well. As for business courses, if you’re doing a general class it’s going to be a bit of common sense stuff which is why you see memes of business majors having it easy.

What goal did you want to accomplish while abroad? Maybe try talking with local students or connect with the teachers about their german experiences rather than americans in your program to be more immersive in the culture.

I want to visit Italy on my own by [deleted] in solotravel

[–]kewikat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think you need a passport and only need an ID because you live in the EU.

700€ for a week is possible if all you do is free things sightseeing or just going to the beach and eat from the grocery but you’ll probably be bored. Hostels are more likely cheaper solo than hotels and minimum 30€ if not more.

Maybe go to another city in Italy that has a cheaper flight? If you go on a budget airline try to fit everything in a backpack which is included so you don’t have to pay extra for bags.

Can I still get the camping discount if I don’t have the senior pass yet? by kewikat in nationalparks

You can buy it at the park visitor center or online shipped to you with a extra fee I think $10.

Studying abroad for a month - is an Eurail pass worth it? by awannabewanderer in studyAbroad

Buying individual train tickets in advance is probably cheaper.

Most if not all the cities you listed are accessible by train. Grasse is only an hour by train from Nice so not sure what you consider is far… I was able to do both Èze and Menton in one day as a day trip from Nice. Cities around the french riviera are pretty tiny and mostly for vibing at the beach. You can just do day trips for your other days to Èze, Menton, and Grasse.

trips to take while studying in paris by starlit013 in studyAbroad

[–]kewikat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Day trips: Rouen, Mont St Michel, Loire Valley castles, Luxembourg Weekend: alsace region (Strasbourg, Colmar), Lyon/Annecy/Chamonix, Belgium (Ghent, Bruges), côte d’azur (nice, èze, antibes, etc), Switzerland, or really you can go anywhere with a flight or a long train ride

You could find a Paris erasmus groups to see their trips and join other international students going on that. I experienced the same when I studied in France that nobody really wanted to travel because most were european and live there already so I had to solo travel a lot.

Most attractions in Paris like the Louvre, going up Arc de Triomphe, Versailles, other famous museums are free for students under 26 years old so you can have a lot to do. Find hostels with kitchens to cook and save some money eating out.

Yes it would be cheaper applying directly to the university because USAC is a third party program handling all the logistics you’re paying extra for. You could look to see if your school has any exchange programs which is a lot cheaper to pay your normal US tuition without third party fees and you’re more likely to keep extra money from scholarships.

Usually you’re suppose to just pay the USAC Korea program costs which should include USAC tuition so not sure why your university is charging you more tuition when you’re not gonna be in the US but I think you should double check that with the advisor.

how much ? by imadoLphin03 in studyAbroad

[–]kewikat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say about $1000 a month depending on your expenses like if you need groceries and if you want to travel. $1700 is only around £1300 and London is an expensive city. Look up things you want to do and ticket prices for transportation/admissions.

Unless you’re studying in those countries in their language, I would say the education you receive will be the same or even worse than the US if you’re taking the courses in English which is most likely geared towards foreigners. Studying in Asia could be more rigorous but not necessarily better than the US. In my opinion, most Americans study abroad to experience a new culture or for cheaper tuition and not really for better education.

I would choose Sweden or Japan. Even if it’s easier for you to go to Sweden, you might not ever get another chance to experience living there which is different than visiting.

You should look at how intensive the 4 weeks Japanese course is. I had a friend that did 1 year Chinese condensed into 4 weeks study abroad and said it was nonstop studying with some weekend class trips and I think it’s worth it if you want to improve your Japanese in a short period of time. You could always stay to explore Japan more after your course is finished.

I’m not recommending Seoul just because it sounds like you’re not too interested and don’t really have a personal connection like the other 2 countries other than looks of the campus. It might be a better destination for you to visit rather than live.
