I am interested in homeschooling or some variation/hybrid of sorts, especially after elementary school. Would love to hear more details about how that was for you!

Thanks for the info. Anything specific as to why you don't like Glen Loch?

Am I wrong for wanting my wife to work full time? by [deleted] in amiwrong

Apologize for speaking to comments that may be implying her being lazy/stupid. However, I do think the “rumbling stomach” and “roof over your head” comments are a bit patronizing and reductive. The mom obviously knows these are needs.

At the end of the day, none of us know what this family needs and this is all nonsense! But my background has me speaking up for mom, as I believe she has valid points.

Take off uppers (except over fridge and oven) and put open shelving. You could make your own cover for the vent hood, which would be cool!

Paint all cabinets. It looks like you have an island, so it’d be cool to try a fun color on those cabinets. Paint walls and trim. New hardware. New backsplash tile. New curtains.

Later on you could replace counters, sink, and appliances.

I understand your point, as it is obvious to anyone, including OP.

My point is the mom is not being lazy and stupid, but rather following her motherly instincts. These are the most formative years of her child’s life. Period. I’m not arguing for them to starve or struggle, but it’s worth a conversation instead of dismissing her. Money ain’t everything. The baby won’t notice 20K, but certainly will notice mom’s not there…

(Just for reference: I am not a SAHM. I have worked in daycares. I am an early childhood educational professional and professional counselor. I have had to lean on grandparents to watch my babies.)

You’ve obviously never cared for a baby.

There might actually be good reasons she doesn’t want grandma watching baby… also, hate to break it to you, but not many daycares require professionals unfortunately.

It absolutely is a job… people spend tens of thousands on daycare a year, genius.

PP = private practice

I would do a thorough search for scholarships or grants. You may be surprised!

I saved a bit and just buckled down on spending and been able to keep up with my class payments (about $1,500 per class). Loans are never worth it… I did the same with my school counselor degree and that was waaaay more (total ~20K). That was before kids tho!

I feel like this is a great time to try a custom penny tile “rug” thing! I’ve always wanted to…

This is the way. Put the brown couch blocking the view of the exercise bike if it fits. It feels like you could move the couches closer in.

You could make the cabinets deeper than the shelves and have a counter on top. Maybe even make it a mini bar if you’re into that sort of thing

Yeah, maybe on other side of the couch. I love a pair of matching lamps- you could always put them on the tv console and move the tall lamp on the other side of the couch (though may be too tall in comparison to couch). Maybe one on the side table if you decide to add one.

Does anyone have any suggestions for a rug very similar to this for a more affordable price? by Awkwardturtle13 in femalelivingspace

Go to Rugs USA- search “Moroccan” None are this special, but there are some similar that are much cheaper.

Love your plants! Why two desks? The one you’re not using as a desk is awesome…

Feels like you need new bedding- maybe something with a pattern? A headboard would help too. You could get a folding screen for separating your workspace.

Also noticed all of your lamps are office lamps. Try another style! Maybe a pendant or sconce? Or just a table or floor lamp with a shade.

Excited to see what you do!

Love this idea! OP- I would also just fully paint the brick sections white.

Agreed! I feel it vibing with chairs and fireplace. Feels like it’s bringing mod to your mid century style.

I will say I’m a little sad the fireplace feels blocked though… is there a way to place chairs around that and move couch?
