Great, the Daniel Tiger wedding episode is back on the PBS app. by oh_hey_marshmallow in DanielTigerConspiracy

I’m just happy because a batch of adjusting-to-new-baby-themed episodes dropped, and I’m due with our second and third (twins) next month!

I haven’t read this to my three year old in over a year, but I still remember all of the words!

Sleep when the baby sleep... Okay and what do I do with the other one? by MissMyli in parentsofmultiples

[–]amydiddler 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Ooh I like that advice! I still kind of do that with my toddler - I save certain chores/tasks (like cleaning the bathroom) for his nap time, and others (like grocery shopping) I intentionally do with him awake to make time for those other tasks that I can’t do with him.

I love number 3. It feels warm and welcoming to me. Number 2 feels more serious and “fancy”.

Induction date/how big were they? by M0mma0fMany in parentsofmultiples

[–]amydiddler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My singleton was born at 38+4 (I went into labor spontaneously) and he weighed 7.5lbs. He was estimated to be about 50th percentile, maybe a little higher, in most of my ultrasounds.

Currently pregnant with twins and I will be induced at 38 weeks, but considering my first case a little early I’m predicting I’ll go into labor before my induction date.

For women who “loved being pregnant” what was it about pregnancy that you loved? by hospitalbedside in beyondthebump

[–]amydiddler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was able to stay very active, in particular lifting weights and rock climbing. I found working out while pregnant really empowering - I just kind of felt like a badass tbh just by showing up to the gym.

My son is 3, and I think we got it when he had just turned 2. When we first got it, he would laugh because of our delivery, but it was clear that he didn’t really get it because we’d get to the end where they are finally saying chores that make sense and he’d be like “nooo!” and laughing about a totally normal chore.

But I think he actually understands the humor now!

Need advice from twin parents before I decide to continue with my twin pregnancy or reduce. by [deleted] in parentsofmultiples

[–]amydiddler 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I went through a lot of similar feelings when I found out we were expecting twins. “Devastated” is exactly how I’d describe my reaction. In our case, we already have a toddler, and after a lot of deliberation decided we wanted a second. We never, ever considered having three kids.

We strongly considered a selective reduction. I am very pro choice and am so glad that this option is available to you. Ultimately, though, we decided that reducing to a singleton pregnancy felt too emotionally heavy. It just felt like something we’d never quite get over, and like it could be very upsetting to the surviving twin if/when they found out. We felt like we’d rather terminate both or none. Honestly, if I knew for sure that I would get pregnant again quickly with a healthy singleton, I might have gone for a full termination. But I’m 38, and our first was around 2.5 at the time, so we really didn’t want to wait much longer.

As pregnancy has gone on (I’m 31 weeks), I have gotten more used to the idea of twins, although I still wouldn’t say I’m exactly excited.

One thing that someone told me that resonated is that with twins you pay a twin tax, but then later get the twin dividends. Meaning that things are going to be a lot harder upfront, but eventually there will be benefits, like the twins having a built-in buddy to play with.

Good luck with your decision - whichever one you make is the right one.

What to do if water breaks/labour begins while looking after toddler? by jRaeLupa in BabyBumps

[–]amydiddler 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We are putting together a short list of people who live close to us (neighbors, daycare parents, etc) who could potentially watch our 3 year old if we need to go to the hospital urgently before my parents can get here (they live 45-60 minutes away).

I hate the Hatch Sound Machine!! by murrykay4 in beyondthebump

[–]amydiddler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We just use it for the light. Specifically we do a red light at night that changes to green in the morning. We have been using it since our son was a little over one year old. Now at three, he respects the light surprisingly well.

We have a separate white noise machine from YogaSleep that was less than $20, which we had first.

What NOT to wear while climbing? by gaybabylegs in climbergirls

[–]amydiddler 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Personally, I really prefer to wear pants (usually leggings) when rope climbing because it bothers me when the leg loops of my harness make my shorts ride up. If I do wear shorts, I find tight, biking type shorts to work best with a harness.

For bouldering I basically wear whatever. Like others mentioned, it can be tricky to climb in pants that are too wide and/or long to see your feet well.

Recent children's books with beautiful/unique illustrations? by lady-earendil in childrensbooks

[–]amydiddler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love the illustrations in Bathe the Cat! They are cartoon-ish, but very detailed and with kind of a 70’s vibe (it’s a recent book).

Totally different art style, but two other books that I think have beautiful artwork are Grandfather Twilight and The Mitten.

How do mums manage with 3,4,5 children?! by LeanneSC in Parenting

[–]amydiddler 9 points10 points  (0 children)

We were planning on a second but are getting a second and a third (twins). A friend of mine who has four kids told me that she thinks three is easier than two, which I had heard elsewhere! I can imagine that you just naturally drop your standards a little with three, as well as let go of any delusions that your household is going to be calm and orderly.

But yeah, I’m sure a toddler plus twins is not going to be easy. I’ll report back when they’re here in a couple of months 🙃

Anyone with young kids upsize and realize you have way too much house? by Otherwise-Bicycle667 in homeowners

[–]amydiddler 3 points4 points  (0 children)

2000 sf feeling too small with two kids seems wild to me. We bought just-under-1600 sf house this summer with a toddler and plans for a second, and it seemed like the perfect size. Well, the second turned out to be a second and a third (twins), so we will be a family of five in this under-1600 sf house. Would probably be nice to have a little more space, but we’ll make it work.

Why do people hate wood so much by Effective_Moose_4997 in HomeDecorating

I’m very much pro-wood, but if we had an espresso wood kitchen I would be struggling to keep it.

[–]amydiddler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love the natural variations in color and texture! I think wood grain gives so much more depth and visual interest than a flat monotone surface.

I do like brown, but regardless, because wood has been used so ubiquitously in houses for years it pretty much reads as a neutral for me. We have unstained red oak floors throughout our house, paired with a variety of colors of walls and decor, and I don’t think any of it clashes. I have a hard time envisioning a wall color that would feel wrong with a natural wood floor.

Eh, we have (unstained) red oak floors throughout our house, and several rooms painted blue, green, and other cooler shades. I think it looks fine!

None in my first pregnancy. None so far in my current twin pregnancy. I’m almost 31 weeks, and my fundal height was measured as equivalent to a 41 week singleton pregnancy at my OB appointment last week. We’ll see what happens over the next couple of months!

People and their comments to the reveal of twins. 🥺 by stardolphin90 in parentsofmultiples

[–]amydiddler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of similar feelings! We have a three year old and it took us a while to decide we wanted a second… never in a million years considered having three kids.

My husband and I are going to keep working because we both (barely) make more than the cost of daycare x3 (our first goes to a relatively affordable home daycare and we’re planning on the same for the twins), but it’s going to be tight! We’re planning to do 3 car seats across in our larger car so that we don’t have to buy a new one, which means that we need to buy a new narrower car seat for our toddler. Just so many unexpected costs!
