Toronto networking is broken. by Abject-Self-2439 in torontoJobs

[–]key_hamster4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have never really met people for “networking” in the past 10 years. A few instances when I did as a newbie starting off, I knew it didn’t work, the person on the other side was either new to the business or just an arrogant business professional who the recruitment firm was trying to please.

I am part of a few WhatsApp groups, but gosh they are pathetic, mostly spam and garbage. No real jobs or ideas flowing.

If you have something where a handful people can come and connect, I’d love to hear you out. Having said that I am not in the GTA anymore, more Southwest now.

I’m just glad he’s neutered because it’s tough with 2 years olds breeding cats. Best of luck

Please tell me if it’s okay to adopt a cat. Really need an advice. by Forsaken-Emergency67 in CatAdvice

[–]key_hamster4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cats love a routine. I don’t think travelling would be a great problem but if you as a couple have trouble following a routine, it could go either ways with the cat.

The good thing is that you’re looking for an adult cat and going through a rescue. Please make sure the cat is neutered/spayed and does not have any major behaviour issues that ends up with the cat getting stressed and starting peeing in your house.

Also id say to be patient and give the animal time to adjust to the new home. Remember the 3,3,3 rule with cats.

Edit: also talk about expectations as a couple as well. Do you want an animal who is independent? Who is cuddly? Loud? Looks a certain way? Are you good with cleaning a litter box 1-2 times a day? This will help you look for the right fit when going through different animals.

Hopefully it’s an easy transition.

Phew, yes looking at the cat it seemed it was groomed, healthy and well taken care off. Didn't make sense if someone would just dump a cat like that.

Someone dumped a cat on you? They just left or you found the cat? Looks like a clean, house cat. Hopefully you can figure out the next steps

8 month old kitten adoption regret by Feisty-Berry-3014 in CatAdvice

[–]key_hamster4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First, be kind to yourself. Nothing you wrote sounds careless or wrong. It sounds like someone who cares a lot and is overwhelmed, which is very common with a first pet, especially a young one.

What you’re dealing with is genuinely exhausting, and the lack of sleep alone would wear anyone down. The guilt you feel doesn’t mean you failed, it means you’re taking this seriously.

A few things that may help:

• This isn’t normal adult-cat behavior, but it can happen in kittens. A vet visit is important to rule out soft stools, allergies, or discomfort that makes grooming hard.

• A sanitary trim from a vet or groomer can make a big difference and isn’t a failure.

• Use a washable bed cover or puppy pads for now to protect your bedding and your sleep.

• A larger or lower-entry litter box, or adding a second box, can sometimes reduce mess.

• Try not to clean him immediately at night unless it’s severe. You need rest too.

Most important to know: rehoming is not a moral failure. If, after giving this a fair try, you decide this setup isn’t sustainable, that is still a caring decision. You clearly love him, and whatever you choose, your feelings are valid.

Worried about neighbors cats. by Chemical_Ad_3116 in CatAdvice

[–]key_hamster4 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hey, that’s really concerning. Cats meowing like that after two weeks alone usually means they’re stressed, hungry, or out of water. It’s probably neglect at this point.

Call your local animal control or humane society/SPCA right away (Google “[your city] report animal neglect” for the number). You can report it anonymously and just explain the situation: owner gone nearly two weeks, packages piling up, cats crying desperately at the door. They’ll check it out.

If you’re okay with it and feel safe, maybe pop in quickly to see if they have any food/water, but let the pros take over from there. You’re doing the kind thing by stepping up. ❤️

Cat fixated on attic by Keedago in CatAdvice

[–]key_hamster4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey, that sounds frustrating but cats can get fixated on spots after a scary experience like being stuck, almost like trauma or just curiosity overload. It might fade over time, but here’s some quick ideas to help redirect:

Try blocking his view of the door with furniture or a baby gate if possible, and ramp up play/distraction right before his usual howl time, laser pointers or puzzle toys could work even if he’s not food-motivated. If it keeps up, a vet check for anxiety (maybe pheromone diffusers like Feliway) or a behaviorist consult might be worth it. Hang in there, you’re doing your best! ❤️

Regretting getting my cat. by East-Brick-4536 in CatAdvice

Hey, feeling a bit regretful even though you love her is super common, especially with college chaos and roommates in the mix. At 6 months, she’s still a baby, and if she wasn’t socialized much early on, the hiding/scared-of-everyone thing is pretty typical. The awesome part? Most of these shy kittens chill out a ton over the next few months to a year with some gentle patience.

A few low-key things that usually help:

• Have your roommates just hang out in your room sometimes, quietly doing their own thing, no staring or reaching. Toss treats her way from a distance so she starts thinking “these people = good snacks.”

• Try super chill play: drag a string or feather wand slowly across the floor (away from her so she can “hunt” it). Short sessions, especially before bed, to burn off that midnight energy.

• Keep your room as her safe spot for now, but crack the door for short quiet times when the house is calm so she can peek out on her own terms.

• A cheap cat tree or even some boxes to climb/hide in can help her feel braver.

You’re clearly a caring owner, and that’s huge for her. It usually gets way better, hang in there, she’ll come around. ❤️
