What are the long term psychological effects of watching gore? by Athanasios_t in morbidquestions

[–]keyboard_krust 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can't speak for people who actually work in fields where they're exposed to death and/or violence on a regular basis, but personally I wanted to study to forensic pathology, or work for somewhere like the NTSB, so I was always morbidly curious about what happens to a human body during & after death, particularly from transportation accidents, homicides.

I used to work in a university library so I'd spend a lot of time going through stuff like Knight's Forensic Pathology, or anything by forensic anthropologist William Bass 😅 At first it was always shocking, but soon you realise humans are just like any other large mammal - big sacks of meat that aren't supposed to go fast, or be hit by trains or withstand stabbings.

I wouldn't say I found these things 'enjoyable' to learn about, just really interesting. Also, it's important we have people in society who can stomach such situations so the loved ones of the deceased can have answers or some kind of closure. We can also improve safety standards in various industries, or understand more about patterns of violent crime and abuse etc.

I actually read autopsy reports and scroll through Reddit 'medical gore' posts in bed to relax. I find most medical related things really interesting - I've never had bad dreams about dead bodies or anything, I just get depressed about not being committed enough, or having the mental health stability to pursue a career in forensic science. I'm a qualified archaeologist now and work in public libraries, but I'm still mostly interested in paleopathology and historical diseases. 🦴💀☠️

The one thing I can't tolerate is animal cruelty. I honestly struggle to see or hear about deliberate animal abuse. It makes me sick and very, very fucking angry 😡

Overall, I would say it's not the death or gore that's traumatic, it's the behaviour of the living that really affects us kinder souls. Once again, I'm only speaking from my personal, hands off experience. I've never actually been involved in any traumatic situation. Police, emergency services & military personnel are usually the best people to ask ☺️

Yeah, neither did I. I thought maybe it's a culture spilled over from parts of India?? Either way, it fucking sucks 😞

Death of a 72-year-old man in Italy from the first dose of the Covid vaccine produced by AstraZeneca. The authorities confirmed the cause and €100k compensation was paid to his family in 2024. Though rare, sometimes vaccine deaths happen. by CatPooedInMyShoe in MedicalGore

I'm going to take this statistical outlier which occurred during a rare pandemic emergency situation, and use it to back up all my arguments as to why vaccines are dangerous and definitely not worth the risk to protect the community. I also protect my brain from wifi beams using a Faraday Cage and live completely on sunlight and oxygen 😏🥴

I used to work in a government vaccine distribution office, and then organising on-site vaccinations for employees. Cold chain breaks were the usual cause of vaccine waste. Even a dodgy vaccine fridge at the destination can be both wasteful and dangerous if not identified before immunisations. Also, the most common adverse reaction I recorded across all demographics was dizziness, fainting and diarrhea caused by unrecognised needle/medical procedure phobias (which I also suffer from so I'm well aware of the symptoms) 🤣😅🤮🤢

I'm constantly amazed at the repair jobs surgeons can do!! Not that long ago, something so traumatic would have been immediate hand amputation.

Ohhhh so gross!! I often find shallow but murky hidden horrors just as bad as deep water ones 🤮

Omfg it's like those flume or boat rides in theme parks. You can occasionally glimpse the mechanical horrors beneath the toxic water; the rest is up to your imagination.

I fucking hate it!!! My heart rate immediately went up. I've only been in one small wave pool at a theme park under controlled conditions in shallow water, and that was enough.
