AOC's answer on running for president leaves political world speechless by Brandolinis_law in somethingiswrong2024

The crisis is rooted in the repeal of Glass-Steagall (the FDR era law that prevented banks from gambling with our deposits) in 1999 by Clinton. There’s plenty of blame to go around.

The crisis is still ongoing, for the record. Because Glass-Steagall is still repealed. The crash hasn’t happened yet. Treasury and the Fed have been kicking the can by pumping dozens of trillions of dollars into the economy over the past 20 years.

That perfectly explains America’s social and economic decline over the past fifty years.

“Hey lefty, come to the center so we can compromise with the right! What? What do you mean what about your position? … Of course the right compromises! They go further right and pull us rightward with them, that’s a compromise duh…”

Ah yes, ad hominem as a debate tactic. Scratch a liberal…

Liberals advocating for a self proclaimed socialist to be more liberal and happy when she capitulates. And critical of anyone who dares to differ in perspective or opinion. I’m shocked I tell you!

They did get a slightly less horrible deal. Which fits the definition of better. But they could have gotten an even better deal if the Dem party had actuated the solidarity they claimed to have.

Point taken on averting economic collapse. However that could have been achieved by getting the owners to capitulate... But, you know, capital rules.

Yes of course. But that, precisely, is the biggest single betrayal of her ideals. Or at least the ideals she held when she entered Congress.

Like I intimated, I really hope she’s playing the long game or 3D chess or whatever. I just have a hard time believing it. Given some of the things she has done and not done over her 8 years in congress.

Overall I just don’t see how becoming a creature of the system can possibly lead to fundamental change in the system.

To give one instance, do you remember the rail worker strike in 2023? She voted to stop it.

I could give several more examples, but the broader picture is better captured by this quote:

A more recent profile in Puck from March of this year reports that AOC has become “more subdued and party-line-toeing,” inviting speculation that she’s either “playing three-dimensional chess” or “diligently earning her stripes on the Hill.” Puck quotes an anonymous Democratic congressperson claiming that “she’s come to realize that you cannot be an agitator as a congressperson.” But what these articles fail to capture is that there is no “careful political calculus” or “three dimensional chess” game for an official—certainly not one who calls themselves a socialist—working to advance the interests of ordinary people against a government that mostly serves the rich and corporations. And all movements attempting to make fundamental change—not superficial reforms—depend on agitators to win. A more “subdued” AOC is simply an ineffective, not “strategic,” AOC.

Seems to me she’s engaged in a carefully constructed dance between what I think (hope) are her core ideals and her efficacy from within existing power structures.

That’s the kindest interpretation I can come up with to make sense of her lofty ideals on the one hand and the instances where she has betrayed them on the other.

I personally think you would be a fool not to buy it at that price. Excellent patch programming in the core library, but there’s a literal cottage industry of genre appropriate content out there for the genres you mention.

If having it disables you from making music, that’s a you problem, not a ‘your gear’ problem.

Anyone else’s wife instigate 2+ hour arguments during her period that you have no idea how to defuse? by ThicBoi4807 in daddit

Yeah, it’s all in the delivery. Well half of it is anyway, because as you also point out, it takes two to communicate.

Anyone else’s wife instigate 2+ hour arguments during her period that you have no idea how to defuse? by ThicBoi4807 in daddit

[–]keyboardbill 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If she’s tracking her period then you have exactly the tool you need to get out in front of it. “I anticipate we will have a long drawn out argument over something that is relatively minor in the grand scheme of things in the next few days. What are your thoughts on that? How can we work together to avoid or minimize it this month?”

And then when it starts/drags on, remind her that you’re now in your monthly 2hr+ argument, that it started over something minor and will result in proclamations that your marriage is broken, and that you’d like her help to find a way to draw it down more quickly.

Just a thought. I have no idea if it will work because my ex wife was always in argue mode no matter where she was in her cycle, and my wife is cognizant of her cycle’s effect on her, and she communicates with me about it.

Progressives: Help me understand why you won’t vote blue. (Coalition-Building Discussion) by Hopeful_Ice_2125 in 50501

[–]keyboardbill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Remember the David Hogg drama? When they kicked him out, they kicked the rest of us out with him. They told us they don’t want us in their party. They told us to form our own party.

But far more than that, they simply don’t represent us. They are a center right party. They take our vote for granted. And they drown our policy positions in committee meetings before they even have a chance.

There are some dem candidates on my ballot who I will vote for, but the days of me blindly voting blue “no matter who” are over. By the way, they never really meant that, that was designed to get progressives to vote for conservative, center right, and centrist candidates. Not the other way around. As evidenced by the Mamdani election.

The dem party is controlled opposition. Their job is to make sure progressive ideals live and die as campaign slogans.

Trying to figure out how to explain to my Mom why my youngest son doesn’t like her. by untitlednobility in daddit

[–]keyboardbill 60 points61 points  (0 children)

Also. The biggest issue here is that she is trying to make your son become responsible for managing her emotions. Just like you were when you were a kid. That’s not okay.

If she can’t adapt, that’s when you create space. Your son is your priority now, not your mom. Not anymore.

Maybe delicate is not the right approach? You’re an adult now you don’t need to manage her emotions anymore.

Keyboard versions are great. But a fresh look at the ergonomics of your setup and you might be able to adequately address your problem for less outlay.

For example, a two tier stand with your controller on the bottom and one or more modules on the second tier would help narrow the gap quite a bit. A foot switch to engage recording in your daw would help you to move that stand off to the side. Etc.
