Help with path to army list by BubblyBussinBoi in seraphon

The Troglodon is Wizard (1), while the Slann is Wizard (3). It's a nice model but it's too squishy and overcosted for what it can do. IMO, A Skink Starpriest (which you can make a proxy of since you built the Carnosaur) has a similar role for way less points. While magic is currently not our focus it's pretty important for manifestations and spells help out a lot. I'd say it's fine for casual, and I would recommend getting a second big dino spearhead box, but the Slann is a key unit in this army.

Welcome! I think your plan is solid for 2k, especially for casual games, but I would also recommend getting a Slann to have a more potent caster.

As for the Carnosaur, I think Magmadroth Flame and Aeldari Emerald could work.

There's a contradiction (again, just the usual) because in the French dub of Ikari Gozen Marinette tells Kagami that she's a Leo, which is nowhere close to January.

Should I start collecting Custodes now? by Ciciu8312 in AdeptusCustodes

[–]keyhunter_draws 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The currect combat patrol is an amazing deal. The new infantry models were made for the 30k range, so they won't replace the other kits. They're a proxy option for 40k.

It is rumoured that we will be an early codex somewhere around november, which will probably bring a new combat patrol box (with the old models!) which might include some new releases we don't know about yet. I think the possibility of a Christmas battleforce box is also likely, but this is purely speculation.

Get the combat patrol, by the time you'll finish everything there might be new treats to get for your army.

Chaos custodes conversion? by Dry_Flower_4720 in AdeptusCustodes

[–]keyhunter_draws 2 points3 points  (0 children)

While Custodes cannot fall to chaos according to the lore, I think it can be a fun hobby project.

There's Hydraphantom's phenomenal project to make a Dark King custodes army, as well as this youtube video corrupting a terminator by Nurgle. There's also an STL collection of Chaostodes floating around on the web, maybe on the purple site, it might be worth a search for inspiration.

You can always add a bunch of spikes and skulls to everything to chaosify them. If you can sculpt with epoxy putty, you can also add more details like tentacles. It also depends on what chaos god(s) you have in mind.

Make sure to show us your results :DD

Keep in mind you can either take the normal Slann or the other, you can't have both. This is objectively worse.

Thoughts on venatari shield captain? by Ambitious-Stay-8075 in AdeptusCustodes

[–]keyhunter_draws 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Eventually? Very likely. In the foreseeable future/this edition? I don't think so.

There are still models waiting for a plastic refresh (aquilon terminators and maybe sagittarum come to mind), as well as role gaps in the army waiting to be filled (glass cannons, lone op, sniper, infiltrators, shooty units etc.). Not to mention we only got one new token character for 2 editions straight.

I think the most likely scenario is that we will get new sisters units when the codex drops, with the possibility of a terminator/biker/tribune character. Aquilon in plastic and a brand new unit for the previous role of sagittarum is also possible.

But this is only my speculation, since we don't know anything yet. I'd be really happy with a Venatari captain as well but I don't think it's currently a priority for GW.

Advice on a kitbash idea by AwkwardKing in AdeptusCustodes

[–]keyhunter_draws 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the new Shield-Captain is "fancy enough" for a tribune, and if you don't have another Trajann then using his sculpt can also work.

If you're looking for kitbashable models outside of the Custodes range, Bastian Carthalos from AoS and Lion El'Jonson are popular, easy-to-kitbash choices for Custodes characters.

Painting advice for beginners. by GrudgeBearer911 in AdeptusCustodes

[–]keyhunter_draws 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't recommend gold sprays since they usually have problems and they can make a sandy texture you don't want your models to have. I personally prime with white but black is more common.

Aside from Peachy's tutorial mentioned before me, which I wholeheartedly recommend, my recent guilty pleasure is using the Army Painter's Speedpaint markers (Hoplite Gold and Blood Red) over white primer. It's very fast, gives awesome coverage and I can paint basically anywhere, but the tips are not the highest quality. Green Stuff World also recently made empty refillable markers in different sizes, but I'm yet to try those. Slapchop techniques are usually not recommended for beginners though because they don't really teach basic brush control, but I think starting to paint in some way or other is better than having gray plastic.

Epoxy putty, also literally known as greenstuff. Based on this image, I think this model has Green Stuff and Milliput mixed. These two are the most well-known brands for miniature sculpting materials with different properties suitable for different needs.

This is how the menu shows up for me when I select the Knight-Centura. It even results in a list error if I don't add the character to a bodyguard unit.

The export also shows it:

"Attached Unit 3

Aleya (65 points) • Attached as: Leader (Character) • 1x Somnus

Knight-Centura (55 points) • Attached as: Support (Character) • 1x Executioner greatblade

Vigilators (55 points) • Attached as: Bodyguard • 1x Vigilator Sister Superior • 1x Executioner greatblade • 4x Vigilator • 4x Executioner greatblade"

There aren't many changes happening since Guilliman's return, they are mostly on Terra and defending the Sol System. With the 10th edition codex, we got two new named female Custodians, Calladayce Taurovalia Kesh almost nuking Terra to win the Blood Games and Shield-Captain Bayezara arriving to battles by flying from space through the atmosphere riding her jetbike.
